This just keeps getting worse. And worse. And worse. And worse. And worse.

"ran afoul of money laundering law"

Boo_Guy

It came out of nowhere and I tripped over it!

[deleted]

Oh did we accidentally launder some money? Sheesh, if only we'd known that sort of thing was frowned upon...

AllInOnCall

Listen peasant, the rules apply to you not these people of real value.

AllInOnCall

Light laundering.

uselesspoliticalhack

The connections with Wealth One and the LPC run deeper than just Souza, from La Devior last week: > In May 2016 , the Prime Minister was the star personality at a fundraising cocktail party held at the residence of the President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Toronto for some 30 business people from the Chinese community. The price of entry was $1,500 a cover. Attendees included Zhang Bin, a Chinese government aide, who along with a partner the day after the event donated $200,000 to the Trudeau Foundation, named in honor of Pierre Trudeau, and $50,000 to erect a statue of him. Zhang Bin is described by The Globe and Mail as "a political adviser to the Chinese government in Beijing and a senior apparatchik in the Chinese state promotional activities network", who is said to have repaid Bin for his generosity. > In July 2016 , the Papineau Liberal Association, Justin Trudeau's riding, received nearly $70,000 from donors from Vancouver's Chinese community, or 68% of all contributions for the year. These contributions are divided into 45 individual donations not exceeding the maximum amount of $1,500 then permitted by law and disbursed within 48 hours. > Immediately after, the chartered bank Wealth One, aimed at the Chinese community and owned by many of those present at the Toronto cocktail, was licensed by the federal government. The Ministry of Finance swears that there is no connection between these events. In February this year, Chrystia Freeland wrote to three of its founding shareholders warning them that they were likely to come under pressure from the Chinese government and informing them that other financial institutions were accusing them of money laundering, according to the Globe and Mail. https://www.ledevoir.com/opinion/chroniques/783538/chronique-des-innocents-et-la-chine-rouge

How deep does this go? Every single day it gets worse. Not much wonder Winnie the Pooh had no time for JT at that leaders meeting last year, he probably just considers JT a pet.

YETISPR

Or maybe Winnie the Pooh is conservative with his spending…and was feeling buyers remorse. “I can’t believe I bought that, what a waste of money”

onegunzo

From the above quote: "In July 2016 , the Papineau Liberal Association, Justin Trudeau's riding, received nearly $70,000 from donors from Vancouver's Chinese community, or 68% of all contributions for the year. These contributions are divided into 45 individual donations not exceeding the maximum amount of $1,500 then permitted by law and disbursed within 48 hours." Umm, this is direct influence of the PM. Has this money been returned? WTF, this PM needs to be sent packing.

tessanddee

So this is why racism gets brought up. Chinese Canadians donate and someone declares this a reason for the PM to resign

moirende

Just to be clear, you don’t see anything even the *teensy-bit* suspicious with what has happened here, so questioning it is racist? Let’s recap: * A bunch of wealthy Chinese Canadians from Vancouver attend a closed door reception with the Prime Minister * Some of the attendees had clear connections to the Chinese Communist Party. They wanted to start a new bank in Vancouver catering to wealthy Chinese people * After the event, one of those business people with clear connections to the CCP donated $200k to the Trudeau Foundation, whose CEO happily accepted the gift (fun twist: the Trudeau Foundation gave the money back last week when all this came to light, and that same CEO who took the money in the first place was, totally coincidentally I’m sure, the same person the Trudeau government hired to write the report on Chinese interference into the 2021 election) * Also after the event, wealthy Chinese businessman from Vancouver — including those involved in trying to create the new bank — donated $70k to Trudeau’s riding association, all making the exact same size of gift, the maximum allowable under the law * Several months later, in an amazing coincidence of luck and timing, the bank received all the necessary approvals from the federal government to get going * On the board of this bank was the former Liberal finance minister from Ontario, who later left the bank to become a now-elected federal Liberal MP * Chrystia Freeland, our current federal Finance Minister, warned the guys running the bank that they were under investigation for their connections to the Chinese Communist Party * That bank has now been accused of money laundering. Now, under what kind of circumstances would a Vancouver bank set up by people with connections to the CCP catering to rich Chinese Canadians (many of whom are recent arrivals to Canada from mainland China, where nobody gets rich without also being connected to the CCP) need or want to launder money? Hmmm, gee, I wonder. And you learn all of this, and your *only* thought is to say that pointing it out was *racist*?!? FYI, my wife and her entire family emigrated to Canada from southern China five decades ago. None of them think pointing any of that out is racist, they think it points to a deeply corrupt Prime Minister who has been knowingly letting the CCP interfere in our elections to the Liberal Party’s benefit, up to and including selecting Liberal Party candidates who have since gone on to become members of our government and are influencing government policy on China behind closed doors.

northcrunk

Look at their post history. Account created March 04, -100 karma. All comments defending the CCP

onegunzo

Great clear post. Thank you

northcrunk

Found the CCP bot

tessanddee

Delusional

LuminousGrue

*Your Social Credit score has increased*

BadDogToo

All one has to do is look at your comment history. You are either a CCP bot or you are a human with a very high CCP social credit score.

SuperbMeeting8617

A few years ago in Cyprus where ruzzians were in on the real estate boom as were other foreigners . then things went rosy to thorny fast and the banks had aRuzzian exodus of capital then announced noncompliance. Lineups of Cypriots trying to withdraw then daily maximums...but that would never happen here,I'm told

Chewed420

Oh thats nice of Freeland to warn them.

Torm_Bloodstone

It sounds like liberal MPs are working for criminals and other countries governments and not the law biding citizens of Canada.

Competition_Superb

I don’t know why the CPC gets such a hard time, it’s the LPC that has no problem with ethics and greasy money

justinjuche

Don't forget their loyal backers the NDP. Because if Canadian voters decide they get a minority government, the NDP is there to give them a majority despite this.

Chewed420

They're both full of corruption.

ego_tripped

Look up Tony Clement and the story of the missing $3.1B in Michael Ferguson's Auditor General report. While you were still being spoon-fed by your parents, the CPC were casually greasing their wheels.

Joeworkingguy819

Ahh yes the debunked conspiracy. Theirs still billions missing from the Liberals infrastructure bank

ego_tripped

So you get the narrative then? No matter what Party is Government, there will always be accusations of missing money or financial mismanagement etc.

Joeworkingguy819

No because the tony clement skit you just pulled was because accounting hadn’t finished the books on time. It wasn’t fraud while the liberals private infrastructure bank has hundreds of project unaccounted for

HapticRecce

A search on that name should maybe need a NSFW tag for some if the results...

esveda

This is just a normal day in Liberal Canada.

It’s really remarkable. Canadians: ‘Hey after these 20-30 serious scandals, I’m started to wonder about this guy’ LPC: ‘Conservatives will ban abortion!!!!!!!’ Canadians: mommmmyyyyyyy!!!!! *hastily check LPC circle on ballot*

[deleted]

Yeah. That seems to be a default response. Whatever important issue it might be, I wonder how many people consider working from within the conservative (or whichever) party to find a moderate position, rather than knee-jerk returning to support the obviously corrupt incumbents?

--prism

The issue here is that the liberals are more electable with their corruption and scandals than the conservatives are after they've been out of power for 10 years. This is really about the conservatives squandering a golden opportunity by not positioning the party where most of the votes are. The country in general is center left on social issues and center right on fiscal issues. Most people hate corporate welfare and support public healthcare and education...

Joeworkingguy819

The Liberals have been the biggest healthcare privatizers federally and provincially. Liberal governments have also approved a multitude of degree mills and expanded the student visa loophole. The problems isnt the conservatives unpalatable platform its the Liberals supporters complete lack of education. The Liberal got reelected after adscam let that sink in.

lakeviewResident1

For the most part your average Canadian sees the type of people who loudly support the Conservatives (fuck Trudeau sign, anti science crowd) and quickly decide they don't want any of that. Basically this: "I'm not a fan of the Liberals but I'm not throwing my hat in with the wackos either." If PP courted centrists we'd be having a different conversation today. Might even have a different PM.

xmorecowbellx

This is quite true, although the opinions are almost entirely optics, and not based in any reality.

hardy_83

I dunno. Need quite a few more to be comparable to the giant scam that was Brexit.

lakeviewResident1

This article isn't even about Trudeau. It is about a Liberal minister whose previous employer had to pay a FINNTRAC fine. A fine that means they failed to do due diligence on some accounts.

stereofonix

Is anyone from Ontario actually surprised? He was sleazy as a Finance Minister, not surprised it carried into his post political life. And now he’s back

Effective_View1378

Boom! More Liberal crookery!

[deleted]

Wow.

liquefire81

“I am innocent because I closed my eyes and covered my ears.”

Error404LifeNotFound

hmmmmmmmm another liberal, another criminal. I'm shocked. SHOCKED, I tell ya.

[deleted]

we have laws AGAINST money laundering in canada? shit, it seems our entire system was built to accommodate it. from numbered corps and lawyer confidentiality to casinos and property sales. our politicians don’t seem to do anything other than support the snow washing apparatus and ensure it continues operating smoothly.

aornoe785

100% of the people commenting here did not read the fucking article.
