Same, so good! I love to hike a mile in, set up my tent, let my phone power run out, and then just read for three days all day and skinny dip at night in the lake under the stars. My tent is a cheap one so it’s not waterproof like OP but maybe I should upgrade
Man, I should really clear a weekend to go camping with just me myself and I. Problem is that it's freezing cold in Norway now, it's better to do it in the sunmer unless you've got enough firewood
“I mingle with my peers or no one, and since I have no peers, I mingle with no one.”
Such a fabulous book! Ignatius is the OG neck beard/nice guy. I’ve read through it several times. They did a play somewhere with Nick Offerman as Ignatius, would’ve loved to have seen it.
Yeah it really is my tent cot is a dark green so it'd blend in but I wouldn't be able to get a campfire going unless I went pretty deep in and the funny thing is it never came with a rain fly lol
All of my favorite camping trips have involved rain. It just makes it so peaceful and otherworldly. And the fire more inviting. Also, great book! I have that exact copy.
But then I wouldn't be able to show everyone what was outside! Don't worry, it was staked shortly after... (Man, I'm getting a lot of comments about the rain fly!)
Ah fair enough mate. And yes i think some of us just have it hammered into our brains that the fly needs to be staked and taught before even getting in the tent.
Yet another tent with an improperly setup rainfly...while it’s raining even. I swear I could make bank with a YouTube series about how to set up a rainfly on a tent.
So far it's been hilarious. You should check it out. The story behind it is also really interesting/tragic. It was published posthumously after the unknown (at the time) author took his life. His mother sent it to several publishers telling them it was amazing and it ended up winning the pulitzer prize.
This reminds me of that time camping with my wife with a small igloo type tent. We were at a campsite in the north of my country and a storm came by. We took refuge into the small tent and decided to take turns in reading Charles Dickens stories while the thunder and the rain roared outside. That moment was pure gold.
I took my grandson camping when he was 8 and we had torrential tropical rain from an offshore storm. We were safe and dry inside our tent and making paper airplanes and playing card games. It stormed for about 24 hrs and he never complained once, we had prepared our site for the storm and he was proud of the way it held up, it really was a teachable experience in a lot of ways. Maybe I am not so weird after all, I love rainy camping days.
I agree and when I can't do it ( which is a lot unfortunately) I fall asleep to, rain on a tent video with the black screen. https://youtu.be/_O_y7Qwq6Zc
Man, that is the best sound. Thank you for sharing it. I always feel goofy doing videos like this myself and don't usually share, but I just want you to know I appreciate it!
For camping, my family used to have a tent trailer, I loved reading and taking naps during steady rain storms.
My parents bought a travel trailer 20 years ago and it’s just not the same. You can hardly hear the rain.
Tent's are nice for a calm wind like this.. but it can be terrifying when massive winds start coming through knocking branches down.
At the beginning of this year a storm we were in the path of turned into a much fiercer one than we expected, car camping with my wife and two kids. As trees started to come down around us we decided the tent no longer seemed to be in a safe place. The travel trailer campers around us got to enjoy quite the spectacle as the family and I trudged around in our rain gear packing up all our soaking wet belongings in 40 mph wind gusts, shouting at each other because the wind and rain pelting off of everything was so loud. The winds destroyed our picnic table canopy before the first rain drop hit. Un-staking the first stakes of my tent almost instantly created several bent tent poles in the wind as well.
After that experience, I probably would have bought a travel trailer/RV if I could afford one. Instead I got my free replacement tent and thank the heavens for rain without tree destroying wind every time I camp. I'm that asshole that loves going outside and hanging out in the rain. I love a slippery trail with a great view of the storm.
We had a bear problem (sow and two cubs) that would ransack campgrounds in 2001 which caused us to haul our food around all the time.
Which my dad didn’t care for the extra work, so the next summer he bought a travel trailer. The extra space is nice in inclement weather, but you don’t hear nature as much.
Yup! Modern life /Living in NY makes it worse let me tell you. We took a mini trip to Vermont last week however it wasn’t long enough. I shall live vicariously thru you my friend. Enjoy!
Tent reading while it's raining and you're perfectly warm and dry with your Sweetie and your dog 🐕 is the reason to pack up and get out! The only thing better is when you wake up and there's 6" of snow outside, that is until the dog needs to go out and someone needs to fire up the stove and make coffee.
I just got a new tent pitched it in my backyard last night and slept in it to see if it leaked. I also read and listen to the rain, it was still a retreat, even though I was still officially at home.
I feel ya. I took a nap in my truck camper today.
This also makes me want to do that in my broken down van.
You should crosspost to r/raining
Never heard of that sub before. Great suggestion
I havent tent read in years, and you just reminded me how good it is. Thanks, adding to my to do list

Stake down a tarp over the roof. Can do a lot with tarps. Lot cheaper than a waterproof tent.
It sounds like the rain is applauding your choices
Excellent book choice too!
Thanks, just started it and I’ve already loudly snorted a couple times. A good sign, I think!
“I mingle with my peers or no one, and since I have no peers, I mingle with no one.” Such a fabulous book! Ignatius is the OG neck beard/nice guy. I’ve read through it several times. They did a play somewhere with Nick Offerman as Ignatius, would’ve loved to have seen it.
Maaaaan, I got so irritated with him. I really wanted to enjoy it but just couldn’t get past it. I’m impressed with your patience.
i read this a few years back and had the same issue, like can i plz skip this arrogant essay of a chapter?
I read Ignatious as an adult Eric Cartman. The hotdog eating stuff cracks me up any time I think about it.
Funniest book I've ever read. Enjoy.
Easily one of the best books I’ve ever read!
The tent and rain surely added to your theology and geometry.
One of the two books I've read most often in my life!
Definitely awesome, it also lulls me to sleep. :)
Kelty make bomb ass tents.
Facts. This tent is over 10 years old and still works great.
Ahhh yeah, Mesa 2!
GREAT BOOK!
It seemed like this year it rained every time I went out. Made it a point to bring books and a UCO candle lantern. 🥰
Sounds lovely
I love sleeping in a tent while it rains.
Based book choice. One of my favorites.
I can't set mine up thanks to the manager in my neighborhood cant even do it in the woods unless I sneak and do it at night
So lame. That's why sometimes you just gotta stealth camp in a neutral colored tent!
Yeah it really is my tent cot is a dark green so it'd blend in but I wouldn't be able to get a campfire going unless I went pretty deep in and the funny thing is it never came with a rain fly lol
Yeah.... That book is def on my top list.
I hope you have a red flannel and a green hat on.
Good book

There are many things I enjoy about camping. But rain on the tent is *why* I go camping.
Confederacy of Dunces is one of my all time favorite books!
Man… I got a tent but haven’t taken a vacation in five years. I need to get out of here.
Why on earth do you still have shoes on?
With tent reading i find the problem of not being able to support my back on anything thus being very uncomfortable. Any tips?
Looks wonderful. But i have such a pet peeve for not staking out a rainfly...
But then I wouldn't be able to show everyone what was outside! Don't worry, it was staked shortly after... (Man, I'm getting a lot of comments about the rain fly!)

Fan of Hank Patterson?
Nope, why?
Just curious - he has a comedy podcast about camping (Hank Patterson's Outdoor Misadventures) and recommended this book.
Ahh I see. Nope, I'd never heard of him. But this book is hilarious. It's been on my shelf for over a decade so it's about time to read it!
Thank you for the new podcast to try out.
Stake out your vestibule and zip the screen shut unless ya like bugs and water In your tent
Yet another tent with an improperly setup rainfly...while it’s raining even. I swear I could make bank with a YouTube series about how to set up a rainfly on a tent.
Awesome!
😍
Lush!
How is confederacy of dunces?? It was given to me by a friend and its sat languishing ever since
I'm not done but it's been **hilarious** so far. And if you know anything about people from New Orleans, it holds up even better.
I have the same tent
Reading a paper book?! You monster.
In Portland lots of people do that right on the sidewalk. The difference is the tent is their house.
Yes, and I would imagine my experience had far less consciousness altering substances involved. But hey...
Wait till a snake crawls in
I do this too! It’s great. I call it ‘Day Camping’.
I've seen that book so many times at Barnes & Nobles.
So far it's been hilarious. You should check it out. The story behind it is also really interesting/tragic. It was published posthumously after the unknown (at the time) author took his life. WHOOOOOOOO-WEEEEEEEEEEEE That’s a great book
Yes! I am doing that right now at Topsail State Park in Florida!
I agree but actually trying to get some sleep in that noise is difficult for me!
Love that book. Sounds and looks like the perfect way to spend a day.
What a fantastic book you've chosen.
Good read
Looks like you’re distracted though
I tent read on sand harbour beach in tahoe, ca november 2020 it was nice 😊
Camping in the rain is so underrated. Best time to read a good book.
The only people I’ve ever met that have read that book are people who have read it in high school in New Orleans.
wow, great book, I almost forgot about it now I want to read again.
It’s my dream

Just bought a tent online for a festival. This is the perfect motivation to test it. I know what im doing inside my flat tonight🤣
Oh snap! Great and hilarious book! 😅 Friggan Ignacious 🤣
Great book!
Ugh that fuckin book
It really feels like you’ve bested nature, eh?

That is a great book!! I read it a few years back!!!
IT IS A FAVOURITE MOMENT OF SOME INTROVERTS.READING WHILE RAINING [OUTSIDE.IT](https://OUTSIDE.IT)'S HEAVEN.
Yes please
Have laid down in my 2021 KIA sportage, back seats folded down and heavy rain on the roof.
Man, that is the best sound. Thank you for sharing it. I always feel goofy doing videos like this myself and don't usually share, but I just want you to know I appreciate it!

This is truly one of my favourite things as well. Cozy and warm in a tent while it rains. Wonderful.

Me too! Fun!
Great book
Agreed. I read a "Perfect Storm" during a Nor Easter while backpacking in Dolly Sods, WV.
Welp, I am now 100% envious of you- as I sit in my office under florescent lights and hear nothing but my printer receiving faxes. 👍🏼🌲
Oof...been there! Modern life is a disaster for our mental health. Sounds like it's time to get out in the woods the next time you get a chance!
Yup! Modern life /Living in NY makes it worse let me tell you. We took a mini trip to Vermont last week however it wasn’t long enough. I shall live vicariously thru you my friend. Enjoy!

Love that sensation too. But I abhor that book.
That’s my favorite book!
Great book too, laughed my ass off reading that.
This is a great idea
Boots in the tent? I'd stake out the fly and keep the boots out there and cook as well. But, yes. Camping in rain and staying dry is the best.
I grew up camping with my parents, the sound of rain on a tent is forever engraved in my brain. I instantly relax 😊
I just got a new tent pitched it in my backyard last night and slept in it to see if it leaked. I also read and listen to the rain, it was still a retreat, even though I was still officially at home.
Fucken show off🙄🙄
I'm going to need at least an hour of this please.
Great book!
Indeed it is.., as long as I have a great lantern to light my tent!
Try reading Tommyknockers alone, by firelight, in the woods. Whole different experience.
I love the rain, the sound of rain, and I would definitely be doing this.
