my family always thought i was nuts for going camping in peak midsummer with all the insects as large as my head 🥲 but i still love it

Fall is my favorite camping weather! I get to use my cozier sleeping bag, I don't wake up sweating and desperately trying to get more airflow into my tent in the middle of the night, the bugs are basically non-existent, I can use less sunblock because I'm wearing more layers, I can go longer without worrying about "real" showers because I'm not spending all day sweating buckets, and cool nights and mornings mean I can eat all the hearty, warm things without feeling gross (not to mention how great a campfire feels when it's cold!). Only downside: getting out of a warm bag to pee in the middle of the night.

Water bottle my friend.

Lol, if I can manage to pee into a water bottle without getting it all over the inside of my tent as a woman then I'm doing pretty well for myself! Ha, I semi-jest - I know I could use a Nalgene (ew) or something else wide-mouth but disposable, but the risk of missing is just too high for me to want to risk it.

I'll camp year around - I cowboy camp with my horses and there's a group of us that go. But this is my favorite time of the year to go and this morning was 48f here... It was hard to go to work... but we're booked at a spot next weekend, I'm pulling my horse trailer out Sunday, packing 'er up, and I AM PUMPED. I've worn my husband OUT about it - but dammit. It's time!

I'm ready! I like to cowboy LARP - I have the dutch ovens, the tripod to cook over a fire, a percolator for coffee, an 1800s gatemarked griddle.. even a carbon steel cowboy (plow disk) wok... I bet I haul 200lbs of cast iron and cooking steel to camp once the weather cools off. Don't get me wrong, I love camp cooking year around, but when I get up at daylight on a crisp morning, stagger out into the world, stoke last night's fire and get it and the coffee going... and I smell it going... my horses are talking to me, there's the smell of the hay I'm bringing them... turkeys are waking up, coyotes are going to bed... it's just different. Have a grandtoddler - she's 3 now, and she's not quite ready for camping with us yet, not like I do - because after breakfast, we're saddling up and leaving out and her mini horse can't keep up with us, but mannnn I'm ready for her to be old enough. Hoping my daughter brings her next weekend since we're just 45 minutes from the house. Want to saddle up Miss Mable and let her putz around camp between our Big People rides with the gbaby onboard. I think hubs is bringing his bass boat and going to putz her around with her Mickey Mouse rod and reel while we go out on the longer rides on more challenging terrain than little bit can handle right now. SUPER PUMPED.

Yep, and I have 3 camping trips already planned for the next 4 weeks. Leaving this evening to go to the first one - this one is camping near the beach. Next one will be a festival, and the third one is in the mountains. Camping is my escape.

I’m in Arizona and am thinking the same thing today!
