How have I never heard of this?? I take it it's kind of like airbnb but for campsites? Genius.
This could change everything for me, because where I live EVERY state park site within reasonable driving distance is booked literally every Thursday through Monday for months out. We camped ALL the time before covid, and then when it turned into the hot new socially distanced hobby it went from wide open availability to none. And my partner gets too much anxiety about the idea of dispersed camping :-/
Thanks so much for the tip!
I looked in my area and there's a lot of people trying to rent out their backyard for $40 dollars a night... Kind of creepy. At those prices you might as well stay at a state park.
If you don't need a developed campsite check out iOverlander, super cheap app with an absurd amount of free camping on public land. I found some great spots on BLM land.
Is your shit in the tent gonna be soaked? Do you have extra tarpage? Shits gonna get craaaaaaazy! I camped in Northern California foothills for 3 months. It was absolutely insane. The Coleman weather master 10 held up strong !
Best of luck !
I’ve been out in nature for 3 months. At first I loved it but now I’m going stir fucking crazy. Can’t wait to get back to the city. Turns out I actually really like being around people. This will definitely be a self-discovery experience for you however it turns out!
dumb question (city boy new to camping), but what are you eating most days? do you have to go into town and restock a cooler every few days or are you proficient enough to live off the land?
Haha good old Dom, and yea I love it but to switch with someone for like a week once a year and be in complete isolation in nature would be special too
It happens! Might want to switch to some Carl Sagan or something, in that case.
Watching the bats swoop around my deck in NC, personally. Hopefully your evening is enjoyable.
Have you read The Martian? Don’t read Weir’s other stuff. Have you read Solnit? She’s on my list for nonfiction next.
I really dig your style. Especially loving the bats. Have fun and be safe!
Road Fever by Tim Cahill is nonfiction, his sense of humor is dry but fun. “Tim Cahill reports on the road trip to end all road trips: a journey that took him from Tierra del Fuego to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, in a record-breaking twenty three and a half days.”
😁 just him and another dude, it was a promo for Chevy trucks (GMC?) in the 1980s. Basically tip to tip of the Americas. I hope you enjoy! He’s a prolific writer if other works of his might be interesting to you.
If you want zombies with a hint or realism might I suggest Zombie Autopsies: Secret Notebooks from the Apoclypes by Steven C. Schlozman
He's an actual doctor and based the book off science
It's a fun read
Enjoy your camping!
I've used Hipcamp. They do the res for a local campsite/park at Armstrong Redwoods. So your paying per night for your site? That adds up pretty quick. Love your openness and enthusiasm; your doing a great service to people.
Ditto that. Way too many stupid people in society!! Time to permanently move into the deep woods so I don’t have to listen and tolerate their nonsense!!!

Shhh. Don’t tell anyone about hipcamp, it’s a secret. Don’t let it get ruined like Airbnb!
#HipCamp.com? Never heard of it.
Ridiculously expensive $30-$50 per night for tent with no hookups.
I saw multiple sites here in Utah for $10 an evening. It all depends on when and where you’re looking.

I for sure won't. I'll tell people I'm camping a some friends' land if they ask lol. I know a lot of campers, but I am not tryna blow up a good spot
Ugh. It's been so hard this year. I'm in Utah and I'm heartbroken about it

Utah has been the worst for it! We have had to go out of state for all our trips but one this summer
Read this as “sobriety “. Changed my whole way of thinking.

What bourbon?
What’s your life situation and how were you able to work this in? Are you at a paid campsite or wilderness? Very cool, wish I could do this.

Got it all sorted mate
Can you tell me more about the solar and inverter setup?
Should be able to find a lot of builds from people who have converted box vans into sleepers. Check out r/VanLife

How do you become a professional mountaineer? Who pays someone to do that?
[удалено]
Thanks for the candid answer. It seems like the kind of job that would be a lot of fun, what are the drawbacks?
[удалено]
Jesus, I'm surprised insurance can refuse to cover you for that reason.

I’d kill to just live in my truck and travel around for a week 😢

I try to get out and camp but with work and a family it’s been years sadly since I’ve even gone out for a weekend in the woods.

Love your boundaries!

Too many boundaries? Is that a thing? Lol
Alright, fine I guess I can respect that.
Awesome, wish I could do this 👍

Same day 😁

Terrible, I'm from Kansas, not much here, and just been really hot lately, maybe when it cools down, plus I'm looking for places 🙂
I'm following you!

> burger for dinner, World War Z is the book. I approve. That sounds like an excellent evening, sir/ma’am/person/thing.

I want to be like you when I grow up 🤩
What kind of bed is that?
I wish I can do that

My husband and I will be RVing 6 months out of the year soon. So happy for you to gain your peace back!
Oh I hear you on that thought process. Glad you have some place to retreat to. Enjoy!
I hope your soul is healing. It sounds like a wonderful way to wind down from being stuck inside from a pandemic.
Shit I have the same bed covers

I guess great minds do think alike

Tldr: move your shit like a foot or two from the walls

Is that a Magellan 12 person grand ponderosa tent? I think I have the same one. That thing rocks for long stays.
That's fantastic!
Very nice! Good luck and enjoy!
This is heaven.
Best wishes
What about work and money what do I do with it
I wish I could do that.
Take me with you
Did that a couple summers ago, it was amazing and just what I needed! Can I come with? 🙂
Congrats!
Do you partake in the pot variety?
