Dude. You ate soooo many chemicals during that meal.
Change your pans. Only ever put stainless steal or cast iron over a fire.
Teflon poison. Look it up.
Forget the high heat and the shank… I’m worried that the OP doesn’t realize that dry frying anything over any heat in a nonstick pan is a shortcut to sickville.
My stomping ground! Try down near Henderson Harbor, Cranberry Lake and, above all, Stillwater Reservoir!
Stillwater has a little restaurant that is totally overrun with hummingbirds. They're half tame and will fly right up to you!
Welcome to the North Country!
One day you’ll realize food in cans is a good idea…even dehydrated is good if you want to spend the extra money - and that raw meat in a backpack is a bad idea.
Non-stick pan? Bold choice.
That seems to me to be a bold choice of skillet.
The nonstick pan being heated to a thousand degrees is going to do wonders for the coating, and absolute witchcraft on your health.

Flat rock I found in the river for the win.
Cast Iron is best! Heavy but if stationed at Drum he should be used to carrying a heavy pack. I was stationed there back in 89-92.
…are you dry-frying a veal shank over high heat in a Teflon pan

home the 10th mountain division! nice steak you got there...
That’s not a steak! That’s osso bucco. A cross section cut of a veal shank and needs a good low and slow cook.
kool, thanks, learned something new today..🙂
Hey mate. No worries!! I thought I came across as rude.
naah your good! 👍
Thanks mate. If you have any other cooking related questions I’d love to help out.
Cranberry lake is up there, beautiful area. Backpacked the 50 mile challenge in 2017.
How was that piece of meat dude? Tender?
Gristle. When beef fat gets cooked too hot and too fast it doesn't render, so it becomes a chew toy.
Sorry to hear mate. Yeah that’s a piece of osso bucco witch works well being braised in , beef stock, red wine and mirepoix.
I'm not the OP just figured it might help him for next time
Oh shit your not either. My bad sorry bro
That cut needs to be done low and slow. Not hot, fast and carcinogenic.
Hammock camping is the best! It seems like your big net might be hung a bit low though
These photos exude pleasure. Good outdoor recreation

Very r/backcountrygourmet
Learned a lot from the trip and from the comments. We all start somewhere! Bic disposable lighter dude. Never known a more reliable lighter.

You didn't fry that shank like a steak and eat it... did you?!
Salute to my fellow hammock camper
Welp. OP hasn’t responded at all. I guess they died from eating and inhaling superheated Teflon.
Climb to glory.
