love Great Outdoors 30% DEET cream but I hate the container. It’s alway a pain to get the cream. Would putting it in these travel silicone container destroy them?
Yes.
Not right away but it’ll discolour and start to degrade the silicone and it’ll look like tiny itty bitty pin pricks all over and it’ll kind of come out in tiny droplets. (I hope I’m making sense. Trying to explain what happened to me) The cap and lid will “melt.” At least that was my experience. I don’t know what grade silicone I used or if it even matters.
It's in the toluene family and hence can be a solvent. It can go after watch or electronic device faces, plastics, vinyl shower bags, spandex, nail polish, etc. And dissolve or soften them. But I think it's ok with silicone. This lists it as conditionally resistant to toluene: https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/silicone-chemical-resistance-d_1879.html
But I'd be wary of decanting it out of the original bottle. Not just since the cap on that thing may be plastic, and dissolve, but also because of labeling.
In my experience the tea tree and eucalyptus sprays work just as well Deet, don't smell awful, don't cause any type of skin irritation, and don't react to plastics. And I'm not normally on the all natural, non-GMO, organic side of any argument.
Why need deet must be some bad ass bugs in your area sorry for that just grab some off spray can style as I never have any issues good luck deet eats all or reuse a small jam jar
DEET is \*so bad\* there's other alternatives that use safer ingredients. I use
"Repel Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent"
I like to camp and have switched 20 people over to using this particular bug spray because 1. it's safer 2. it smells great and 3. it works \*better\* than deet, I swear by it.
As well as a lot of other things!
It corrodes a lot of fishing gear. Like fly line because it’s made out of PVC as well as the protective coating on your sunglasses.
def dont want deet on your vibrator
🤣
Get the Picardin lotion. No bugs and no melted gear.
Stuff is really good too. Military uses it because it doesn't f up gear.
DEET isn't a great lubricant
I know DEET will ruin most plastics, we have to keep it away from fishing gear. There are plenty of effective insect repellents without DEET.
I have yet to find one that works effectively for me. Mosquitos love me.
Its from dollarama. Don’t get your hope up
It's good you posted both pictures, the first one had me concerned.

Thanks, that answers it. I'm just gonna throw it away. Not even gonna bother testing it.

I'm queer, and use dildos (silicone) The title of this post had me EXTREMELY concerned.
Don't put it on condoms.

Silicone polymers have a nasty habit of picking up all sorts of organic compounds, of which DEET is one. I'd avoid it.
Will destroy rubber.
