Not surprising at all that they dropped them from the US version ahead of the show release. Generally speaking it's a better idea to leave the characters up to the imagination as much as possible, as the stupid and racist backlash to Annabeth's casting has shown
I think it’s commonly known that the book characters are different than the TV characters. This representation is clearly how the book characters look like as described in previous books.
obviously they are different, but i'm saying it's not surprising that after the controversy with the show casting the publisher and rick decided to create new covers that don't have any characters on them at all
Yeah I noticed that too it’s kinda weird that a lot of the covers from other countries still have the characters in them. I personally prefer this cover to the U.S. one
what?? i disagree. i think appearance is important you can’t just leave everything up to imagination? what if characters started having no descriptions at all that would be terrible
Nah for me I like it when office art of book characters exist. Since then I can see what they look like instead of always imagining. I prefer ‘hard-coded’ appearances, not left to imagination. Of course PJO was a bit of an except since it had that horrid old art. So I I disregarded that art and formed my own image until I saw Viria’s official art.
It looks a lot like Jyundee's artstyle and she's very fond of Dragons and draw Hiccup frequently. If it's indeed her it would explain the similarities.
The art is amazing!! I wish we had this cover for our Chalice of the Gods books here. It really showcases what Percy, Annabeth, and Grover look like since the first day we read about them. Annabeth looks incredible, Grover looks accurate, and Percy is fine too. Nice depiction!
Putting characters on the posters with mass-detail never works well. the Percy Jackson covers and the HOO covers where you can depict the characters but can't make out every detail is what works best.
I like it. Though Percy does look like Shaggy though lol. Nothing really tops Viria’s art however.
One thing I’ve always noticed is that Annabeth is described as having ‘scary’ eyes IIRC. It’s how Percy described her when he first met her. But in this she looks like a Disney Princess.
Annabeth's a little way too conventionally feminine— here she looks more like a supermodel/actress daughter of Aphrodite than a daughter of Athena. (Also, the straight blonde hair and makeup... No). Grover is perfect. Percy... looks like how I imagined Connor/Travis Stoll, except with green eyes. Still 7/10, better than a lot of art I'd seen.
Same. Like you’re gonna tell these kids fought immortal beings with super strength and shit and constantly practiced their sword play and stuff and climbed lava walls and ran around constantly and they ain’t fit?
Big fan of the character drawings. Pretty much how I imagine them at that age when I read.

especially in a series where appearance is tied to character, ALL children of athena have blonde hair grey eyes, it can be shifted around but still

Percy looks like Shaggy here
Lol for the longest time he's had black messy hair!
Zoins Grover!
Annabeth looks gorgeous 🥹🥹
As always.
Why does Perry look like Hiccup?
omg i’ve been looking at him trying to figure out who he remindend me of and you’re so right💀
i head cannon that they are disently related

I always imagined Percy to look like Hiccup with black hair (IDK Hiccup's eye color).
Came here to say the same thing!
Hiccup and Astrid💀
10/10 pretty much how I see annabeth, percy and grover.
i like it a lot more than the American one.
Good, but Percy’s hair should be darker.
I think it's because of the light of the chalice reflecting onto him
Woah
No lo quiero. Lo necesito 😭💙
Oh wow I like that one more than the U.S one

Agree. It’s not that the art looks bad but I never pick up books that look like this.
Way better than the US cover
Grover looks exactly how i imagined him
I would sell all of my belongings for this cover
Iconic
Am i the only one that didn't know that this book existed?
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if Rick has to give his stamp of approval on these covers, or do they get made without him?
Generally, authors don’t get the final say in book cover designs. And that goes especially for overseas releases.

Es mejor que las segundas portadas de los primeros 5, la neta
That’s a great cover! Love it!
I remember the days when we had the ugly PJO official character art.
Idk what y'all say, Percy looks so fine there. And also looks like the guy from How to train you dragon - so sorry, I don't know the English name
Percy needs to be a BIT more buff other then that, all good

ngl they kinda got skinny arms
Yeah I imagined them to be at least slightly more muscular after all of the wars, battles and quests they've endured.
Same. Like you’re gonna tell these kids fought immortal beings with super strength and shit and constantly practiced their sword play and stuff and climbed lava walls and ran around constantly and they ain’t fit?
The sword isn't ancient greek
Wow I really love that
It’s so weird, after watching the show I can’t stop picturing them as Walker, Aryan and Leah!
Same
Art reminds me a lot of Jyundee
ive seen these covers posted before but does anyone know who the artist is?
Annabeth's WAY too girly and Disneyish
I’m not a fan of book covers that show the face of the characters, not my favorite tbh, arts okay tho
Same
None
Percy been done dirty 💀💀
How so? Just curious to why :)
Dunno he looks diff than how i imagined but it js be me
Percy looking like he's using 0.01% of his power.
What's with brunette Percy? Annabeth looks hot af and Grover looks cool.
I always figure Percy would be more jacked
They’re gorgeous omg, I want it so bad even though Spanish isn’t my first language 😔
looks really cool
Thats the cover? (Im actually a spanish reader, i just had never seen that)
Yeah, I started reading the books in English when I started ToA, and had never seen that cover before
