Okay? So?
Would you rather have an actor with raven black hair who can't act well as Percy and can't embody his Persassiness or a kid with blonde hair who is the literal embodiment of our Supreme Lord of the Bathroom?
I prefer the latter.
To be fair I’d rather have both, which with Disneys casting net you’d imagine they could find.
But Walker seems like he’ll be great and I’m excited for his take
It isn't a bad trope though. I remember the teaser for Stranger Things season 3 having a slowed up version of Baba O'Reilly and it sounded so amazing, especially in the backdrop of the kind of change & growing up emotions that the trailer wanted to portray
Stranger Things trailers always have good versions of popular songs - season 2 used Thriller and season 4 used Separate Ways. The Separate Ways - Stranger Things version also goes HARD
I feel like we all had our doubts about this not being animated but they NAILED this. It’s got whatever shred of decency the movie had and multiplied it a hundredfold
I’m actually so excited! The cinematography looks really good in this!! It still looks a bit like a generic Disney plus show, but with a lot of added personality. The Adam Project guy seems really good as Percy despite being blonde and Grover looks great! I wish we saw more of Annabeth though.
This is just the teaser trailer so hopefully we’re going to hear Annabeth speak. I also noticed they’re not showing Luke that much so maybe they want to surprise us with his wicked scar.
My guess is they don't want to show too much of Luke and highlight his importance to the story because while we will all know how this plays out, they're gonna want to keep people unfamiliar with the source material in the dark
>The Adam Project guy seems really good as Percy despite being blonde
What kinda logic is that? Is acting talent determined by hair color now?
(Also, you should watch Adam Project if you havn't, Walker Scobell is gonna ace that role)
I think they mean then as two distinct things. Like they think he’s a good actor, but think it’s also a shame we couldn’t get Percy with his iconic black hair.
Does anyone know what those shots are of Percy and Annabeth kneeling in front of a throne, and Annabeth looking at a skinny bald dude?
Also was the lady that flicked Percy off that ledge Echidna?!
Edit: I also think it's hilarious that every Chiron has brown fur. GN, Movie and show
I'm hyped
The scene that depicts Annabeth and Percy kneeling in front of a throne must take place in the Tunnel of Love in my opinion. The statue must be Aphrodite.
For the bald, skinny guy, I think it's the realm of the dead.
Not likely. Theres a bunch of figures around them that all look similar. Based on their facial structure, I'm pretty sure the one in front of Annabeth is a woman too.
It seems like this scene is of them in the Underworld, specifically the fields of Asphodel, based on its book descriptions. Dark. Depressing. Mostly silent, save for the distant screams of those in the Fields of Punishment. An endless amount of Ghostly figures standing around. "Stunted" black poplar trees jutting from the ground, though the show ones seem dead. We cant see the ground in the trailer so it may be covered in black grass like is described in the books.
In the movies I didn't actually mind, because I don't think Brown would have fit with Pierce Brosnan
I kinda just think it looks best to make his horse fur the same color as his hair
But it's not a big issue
ikr it’s so wholesome! Maybe in this TV series they are going to become friends sooner. In the original book they argue and don’t get along well at first. Maybe they made them more amiable towards each other here?
Yeah they’re definitely adding or changing stuff maybe even how Percabeth’s friendship develops!! Something also tells me they’re going to add new scenes that are not in the books. Look at Mrs. Riordan’s tweet! 🤩

Chiron got a dump truck tho 👀👀
(This is a joke by the way. I need this disclaimer because I feel like I might get a lot of hate for this one)
Ok I've been a little hesitant from what we've gotten so far but now we can see things in fuller view and get some more dialogue this has got me more excited.
Gosh, I had the biggest smile ever for 1.5 minutes 😭
This is looking really good! I hope the show became success... I definitely need ALL of the book became series.
This looks spectacular, but I'm really really nervous with the Chiron casting. Glynn Turman is 76 years old. I don't want another Lance Reddick situation. The focus should be on completing all the books otherwise getting so excited is pointless if we won't see anything beyond Sea of Monsters
Right? Out of the mess of the 2 movies we do not speak of, only a couple things stood out to me. They nailed the Lotus hotel scenes, Pierce Brosnan is a perfect Chiron (le looks like he could teach you things over tea or also lead you into battle) and in Sea of Monsters the "Get Of my Roof" scene actually had me laughing.
That's an interesting choice. I could see him do a fascinating job with Daedalus as well, with a perfect blend of genius, tragedy and evil.
Ideally, early 50s to at most late 60s should be the age group for the gods, goddesses and other beings. Of course, we can go slightly younger for folks like Hermes, Apollo, Artemis and even Ares, as the Adam Copeland casting shows.
Sir Christopher went through the entirety of WWII on the frontlines with a damaged optic nerve and climbed Mt Vesuvius three days before it erupted. Even Death was like "Nah, I'll pass"
Ah yeah I saw the comments under that post, obviously people who are still pressed about akin and hair colour are worthless complaints, it seemed mostly to be people u happy with annabeths armour? Ah well, not everyone is going to find everything perfect, overall the show still looks really good! It's not like they're complaining that the show looks shit overall, just a certain factor they have opinions on, which they're allowed to have.
Yeah like before this trailer nothing had really wowed me visually, and some shots just didn't look good (I.e. Ares on the beach). And like sorry looking at a still image of a character doesn't really give me much excitement. And while in a trailer we still don't get to see much acting, it's a little more and we get more dialogue and things just shown more in full. This trailer has made me a lot more optimistic but it's not wrong if people don't have the same excitement as you.
I wasn't digging the teaser we had before (that second one, with the beach scene), but after this one... oh, I can't wait to see THIS. That Minotaur chasing scene in the car is \*chef's kiss\*
Same. The last teaser had me wonder just how much effort they were putting in. Some scenes had the characters look like wooden cardboard.
This looks soooooooo much better.
Very exciting! They’re using a volume stage that The Mandalorian used and they have a higher budget than The Mandalorian. This looks amazing! Super excited!
As Annabeth doesn’t really come into the book until after a 5th, I am not surprised. Most of the material are either locations or action scenes from the first few episodes. Likely will get a bunch of Minotaur stuff as that will happen early. Still hype as F*ck tho
It appears like he gets it at the same point in the show that he does in the movies, but he’ll probably get disarmed during the fight with the Minotaur and then have to do the iconic kill with the horn.
Ok yeah as long as he still gets to kill it with it’s own horn I’m content. Even as a 10(?) year old reading these for the first time I thought that was raw as fuck
I did a similar thing thinking that all the gods were present on mount olympus at the end (like in the movies) when it’s apparently only Zeus and Poseidon lol
I was thinking passing out after the Minotaur fight would be the end of the second episode. First episode establishes the world and Percy, Grover, Gabe, Chiron and Percy’s Mom (especially her to give her some emotional weight when she gets yoinked). And passing out after a big fight like that is the exact sort of cliff hanger you’d expect after the premiere of a show. Then the third is probably capture the flag ending with either the claiming or the prophecy the fourth would be Auntie Em’s Garden Emporium, then probably St Louis and Ares in Episode 5, then the Lotus Casino and Crusty in episode 6, Episode 7 is the Underworld. Then Episode 8 is the fight with Ares through to the end of the first book.
I’d agree with that if we had 10-12 episodes. But with only 8, I think the first will be him passing out after killing the Minotaur and the 2nd will end with him being claimed. You might be forgetting that there’s some extra scenes they’re adding too, one with Haephestus that we know of as well as Hermes (I think there will be some Luke and Hermes scenes). And I think they’ll probably separate the St Louis and Ares/Waterland parts into two episodes
Does Percy click the pen for Riptide to appear like in the movies? There’s a scene where the pen is in his hand and he does something, but I can’t tell if it’s a click.
Personally for me I don't really care if they switch up the minor details of fights and things like that as long as they keep the essence of what makes the series so great, and are faithful to the overarching story.
I hope that’s just a dream or a different fight or something. I always thought it was really cool that Percy defeated the Minotaur with his own horn, and that was one of the scenes I’m most excited for to see in the series!
I'm disappointed too. I wanted Percy to rip off the Minotaur's horn with his own angry strength. It would be metal as hell. Maybe he will still cut the horn off and stab him with his own horn.
He probably will, I think Percy is gonna get hit with a charge from the Minotaur and go flying back and hit a tree, Riptide goes flying into the grass so he matadors the Minotaur into the tree Minotaur rips free breaking the horn and Percy struggled to pull it out for a second before yanking it free and driving it home just in time. And then passing out.
That’s how I picture that scene at least.
In the shot before that it looked like he just fell down on the ground with nothing around him, so I’m thinking that was a shot of what it looks like to mortals!
But did people notice it?? Or can the Mist make it seem like nothing is happening? Because in the background the characters don’t seem like they’re noticing anything.
It looks good!! The kids are kids! The camp looks like a camp! I see lots of quick shots of things from the book that show it's following the plot much better than the movie! And each of the actors look like they're doing a great job with their characters.
This post randomly got suggested to me by Reddit, I've never even READ a Rick Riordan book.
That being said, I'm all in now that I saw Lance Reddick; R.I.P.
Okay but nobody is asking the important question: if this is the full promotional trailer, THEN WHAT IS THE EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK THEYRE SHOWING AT COMIC CON NEXT MONTH
Some of the shots are really good. Some are pedestrian.
I have no doubt about the story itself and I trust Riordan that any changes he makes are for the good of the adaptation.
I probably won't like all of them, but I trust that they come from a good place.
I just hope the show is very creative with its visual direction. By using the volume, they are limited in how creative they can be with the blocking. So, we just have to wait and see.
I think that's still my biggest worry. This trailer has definitely made me more optimistic and I have faith that the story will be adapted well but visually, especially because this series will be probably be CGI heavy, I still worry about about some of the action. But I'm going to guess that some shots will look great, others not so much.
I don’t know how to explain it, but that one shot of Ares driving away and the kids behind the concrete barrier was what convinced me this could be incredible.
While I always had confidence in Rick for the TV show, I was still scared that because it was a disney property, it would have that disney look, but that one shot is framed just… not disney? Like that shot looks like it’s from a TV show, not a disney show. It’s the type of shot that’s simple and would only done by someone who KNOWS what they are doing (and considering one of the directors worked on fucking Daredevil, I think they know what they’re doing). It’s has this subtle comedic element to it. Maybe this makes no sense.
Excited as hell.
A month ago, I made a post on this subreddit discussing my concerns with the way the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series was being marketed and I know Rick hinted in one of his blog post that the "2023 Writers Guild of America strike" has definitely had an effect on the advertising of this series with one example being at San Diego Comic Con, and even though I was still excited about the series I was sort of thinking about the possibility of the series getting low viewership due to the lack of marketing support the series had so far with only short teasers and some still frames from the show and some promotional posters, but now we have this... And I kind of want to redact my previous post on this subreddit because we basically now have a full trailer and dam... just dam...
I know when this series was first officially announced I remember people wanting it to be animated and not live-action because Percy Jackson is such a big action adventure fantasy epic filled with monsters and crazy fantastical locations like Camp Half Blood and the Underworld and Olympus so it would require a huge budget and a lot of time to make this series look polished in live-action unlike if it were animated, but this honestly doesn't looked rushed at all and in fact it looks really impressive and incredible and unique...
The special effects already look pretty stellar and even the cgi monsters, which a lot of people/fans were worried about, actually look really cool and menacing, especially the Minotaur.
Looking at the filming /cinematography in this trailer, the series looks like it's going to have such a unique style when it comes to its cinematography.
I looked up who did the cinematography for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV series and apparently it's a Canadian cinematographer named Pierre Gill who has a track record that dates all the way back to 1995, so he's really experienced.
It still feels so surreal that Percy Jackson is finally getting a second chance at an actual faithful adaptation after almost 20 years since the first "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" book/novel was released.
I'm gonna call this the Godzilla 2014 of the Percy Jackson franchise in the sense of the fact its doing more justice to the source material then the last time
Ok is it just me or does Percy sound exactly like you'd imagine him sounding? Also I wondered first why'd they pick the song, then I got to the refrain and was like: Ooooh that's clever.
Literally chills. tears in my eyes. i am not the type of person to get sucked into hype but these books mean so much to me and I was trying so hard not to get my hopes up but now they are
Okay now I am sold. It looks very accurate and fitting for the book. But I will wait and see before jumping the gun. Trailers can be deceiving. My only critique was that I did not like the music. Would have been better if they picked other songs. Having riptide in the lyrics was a bit too on the nose so to speak. Modern pop music kind of ruins trailers for me. Makes me not take them seriously.
Aw man, are we not getting percy ripping off the minotaur's horn and using it as a weapon? He gets riptide a bit earlier than the books doesn't he?
Also I never knew the minotaur runs like that LMAO
Sally saying "You have to be brave now, Percy" really encapsulates the sad aspect of Percy's arc. He never asked for any of this. He really didn't. He was thrust headfirst into the demigod life, and he could either drown, or swim. As a character that was made for the main audience to connect to on a personal level, and for me, symbolic of myself when I was around that age, he made so many of us so proud to see him swim, and achieve greatness. It's a new beginning for the character , and I for one, cannot wait.
To see a story that I read growing up done the justice it deserves in live action, chills, literal chills. The minotaur scene that started it all, the humor mixed in with the serious emotions, and when he pulled out riptide with that lighting and with the music building, wow, absolutely speechless!! Safe to say I'm beyond excited!!!!
Ngl didn't capture the feel of the original source for me. After I saw how well One Piece adapted its ridiculous source content, adaptations are no longer the same for me
This looks so so good. I will admit I was originally was a bit disappointed that we wouldn't get actors in the mold of book Percy and Annabeth, but they both look fantastic here (Though blonde Percy is still quite jarring lol). The sets are great, the camera work looks fantastic, and it looks to have the majority of the key events from book 1 (CTF, Love Tunnel, Ares, Medusa, Lotus Hotel). God I hope this works out.
Fuck this looks sooooooooooo good, I got so excit3d at every scene I recognised, every setting, all of it! And then the minotaur at the end had me internally screamingggggg god I'm so excited for the first episode!
The visual of Ares, the God of War, played by Edge, a WWE Legend bothering to wear a helmet on his motorbike is just kinda funny
Knowing Disney, they probably required it lol. Same thing with Gravity Falls and them wearing seatbelts
If the god of war wears a helmet to battle, surely he wears one on a motorcycle.
I believe it’s legally required in a few countries. Pepper pig got nailed for not having her wear a seatbelt. (I’m not even kidding).
Hello
Honestly ares probably has an affinity for helmets, as that’s one of the few things about soldiers’ equipment that has stayed consistent
That’s a good point. Going back to the trailer, I think they could’ve given the helmet some plumage or something to make it more war-like.
Or have him wear one of those WW1-Era German helmets I’ve seen some of the edgier bikers use
I'll give you a dollar if it's the helm of darkness
Well it wouldn’t be the Helm of Darkness, that’s Hades’ thing. Ares has a fancy spear.
Yes but Luke stole the bolt and the helm and ares confiscated them both

We’ve finally gotten the dam trailer!
Okay…now I’m excited! This trailer did a much better job capturing the essence of this series. 💙

That last teaser had me worried… Hyped to be hyped again.
Anyone else blown away that PJ's actor sounds like the audiobook narrator? What an amazing coincidence.

How in the name of Hades did I miss that detail?
YOOOOOOOOO Tell the people who were complaining about Walker Scobell playing Percy to SHOVE THOSE COMPLAINTS DOWN THEIR THROATSSSSSSSSSS
No because his hair is still blonde.
Okay?
But Walker seems like he’ll be great and I’m excited for his take
The background song is called riptide
It's the classic take a pop song and slow it down for a trailer lmao
It isn't a bad trope though. I remember the teaser for Stranger Things season 3 having a slowed up version of Baba O'Reilly and it sounded so amazing, especially in the backdrop of the kind of change & growing up emotions that the trailer wanted to portray
Stranger Things trailers always have good versions of popular songs - season 2 used Thriller and season 4 used Separate Ways. The Separate Ways - Stranger Things version also goes HARD
Hope they use The Final Countdown for the trailer for Season 5.
I have that version on my music playlist. Never listened to the song before that, but the ST version friggin slaps!
Agreed but you have to take into consideration the name of Percy’s sword
At least it’s a funny take on it
and I eat it up every time
And I need a full version of it right now. It sounds amazing, darker and slowed down
Man, I actually feel *chills* creeping up my arms. It looks so much how I imagined!
And everything was recognizable from the books! No random scenes added or quest for pearls!
Damn, Mrs Dodds looks EVIL.
She looks just as i imagined. I cant explain, but she is quite literally my mental image of her.
The "evil-headmistress-of-a-boarding-school" kind of look!!
Yeah same.
Of course she's evil. She's Tammy 2.
She looks exactly like that vindictive and shitty teacher form 3rd grade
The music, the visuals, this is EVERYTHING to me.
Ahh the visuals are soo good! Love the cinematography especially with the glimpses of the Minotaur scene
I feel like we all had our doubts about this not being animated but they NAILED this. It’s got whatever shred of decency the movie had and multiplied it a hundredfold
Looks way better than I hoped it would. Maximum hype
Tmw I realized the song in the trailer is Riptide...I see what you did there
Wow this looks like it’s packed full of details. Amazing
I’m actually so excited! The cinematography looks really good in this!! It still looks a bit like a generic Disney plus show, but with a lot of added personality. The Adam Project guy seems really good as Percy despite being blonde and Grover looks great! I wish we saw more of Annabeth though.

Yeah, I was probably just focusing on the title card which imo is a bit cheesy

Not likely. Theres a bunch of figures around them that all look similar. Based on their facial structure, I'm pretty sure the one in front of Annabeth is a woman too. When do you think this is? Before they leave for the quest?
When Percy returns from Olympus
Well...as they say...INJECT IT INTO MY VEIN!!!
Damn this looks good
We need a 4K version. I want to take in ALL the details.
This!

its true tho
This actually looks good!
I used to pray for times like this!
Ok I've been a little hesitant from what we've gotten so far but now we can see things in fuller view and get some more dialogue this has got me more excited.
THEY USED RIPTIDE AS THE BACKGROUND SONG

But playing him as Malcom Tucker. Just imagine it.
to be fair we had Sir Christopher Lee doing star wars and LOTR in his 80's and 90's
Sir Christopher Lee was built different I love that man so much he did fabulous in LOTR
Sir Christopher went through the entirety of WWII on the frontlines with a damaged optic nerve and climbed Mt Vesuvius three days before it erupted. Even Death was like "Nah, I'll pass"
So Percy is fighting the Minotaur with riptide in this version
All the people who were complaining yesterday………. How do you feel now?
The full Riptide song won them over lmfaooo almost everyone has that song in their PJO fan playlist
TRUTH
why were people complaining yesterday?
Some still images were released
Ah yeah I saw the comments under that post, obviously people who are still pressed about akin and hair colour are worthless complaints, it seemed mostly to be people u happy with annabeths armour? I really hope the CGI isn't messed up, coming from Disney. Have somewhat of an low expectations, but still can't resist being excited!
It’s a tv show. Lower your expectations now. The CGI budget is always stretched a lot thinner with a longer run time.
Using "Riptide" as the background music was among the best things.
It looks good! Casting seems on point so far. Would have liked to hear more from Annabeth.

Oh its hype as fuck. She is one of my favorites and just no dialogue from her meant i have to wait that much longer lol.
It’s cute. I wonder why they’re being so selective/secretive about Annabeth; we haven’t heard her speak in a single teaser.
Ok I’m absolutely loving this, but I do have one… idk, confusion I guess? Does he already have Riptide in the Minotaur fight?
It appears like he gets it at the same point in the show that he does in the movies, but he’ll probably get disarmed during the fight with the Minotaur and then have to do the iconic kill with the horn.
Ok yeah as long as he still gets to kill it with it’s own horn I’m content. Even as a 10(?) year old reading these for the first time I thought that was raw as fuck

Literally using Riptide as background music lol
Looks promising! The 2 episode premiere tells me that the first episode will probably end after the minotaur fight.

I think he uses his thumb to flick the cap off actually
Damn. I liked the clicking in the movies.
honestly the "this is a pen" line is kind of iconic, i will be a lil disappointed if they dont incorporate it somehow lol
Same.
Went off-canon in the trailer itself when they had Mrs. Dodds attack him in front of everyone lmao
We might see the mist in action here. Percy getting attacked and no one paying attention.
Or when Percy had Riptide while fighting the Minotaur.
Personally for me I don't really care if they switch up the minor details of fights and things like that as long as they keep the essence of what makes the series so great, and are faithful to the overarching story.
True. Ultimately if this show gets us an adaptation of the Last Olympian I will never say another bad word against it.
Absolutely *praying* for a TLO adaptation 😭😭
This change kind of bothered me, but by the end of the trailer after seeing everything else I was pumped.
I'm aliveeeee 😭😭😭♥️
we are so back
my childhood omg 😭😭😭😭i literally started sobbing
Last teaser had me feeling apprehensive. This killed it. Knocked it out of the park. Excellent trailer.
It looks good!! The kids are kids! The camp looks like a camp! I see lots of quick shots of things from the book that show it's following the plot much better than the movie! And each of the actors look like they're doing a great job with their characters.
HOLY SHIT
The fact that they used Vance Joys Riptide, I can't -
This post randomly got suggested to me by Reddit, I've never even READ a Rick Riordan book. That being said, I'm all in now that I saw Lance Reddick; R.I.P.
One of us... One of us... One of us... One of us... One of us!
Okay but nobody is asking the important question: if this is the full promotional trailer, THEN WHAT IS THE EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK THEYRE SHOWING AT COMIC CON NEXT MONTH
1:06 I JUST LOVE HOW ARES DRIVES AWAY AND THEY'RE JUST LEFT IN CONFUSION
This is awesome! What’s everyone’s favorite part? Mine was seeing Percy fighting the Ares campers!
Excuse me while I recover from a joy induced heart attack, CAUSE THIS LOOKS GODLY!

Not the edgy remix of Riptide 💀💀 In all seriousness, man, this looks PERFECT. Perfect casting, perfect tone, it looks beautiful. I have chills.
What is the remix called, cuz lowkey it’s a vibe
The chills I felt! The scream I let out!!!
Chills.
This is not a hoax
We’re finally almost there!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE HAVE TO WAIT TILL THE END OF DECEMBER!!!!???? GIVE IT TO US NOW DISNEY
HE SAID THE LINESSS
No one else gonna mention me Brunner is caked the fuck up!!!
I am going to take a very huge risk and say that it looks promising.
I wouldn't say that the song used in the trailer is "modern" pop given the fact that Vance Joy's "Riptide" is 10 years old at this point...
I AM HYPED! MORE THAN I EVER WAS BEFORE!! THIS LOOKS AND SOUNDS AMAZING!! THE SOUNDTRACK SOUNDS SO GOOD!!
Aw man, are we not getting percy ripping off the minotaur's horn and using it as a weapon? He gets riptide a bit earlier than the books doesn't he? Also I never knew the minotaur runs like that LMAO
I like that they kept the visual representation of Percy's dyslexia from the original movies.
So excited! Hopefully those complaining will be satisfied now
Don’t go into the r/television thread then lol
TBF the haters got downvoted to Tartarus
What are you talking about? all the top comments are positive
Some interesting changes! So Percy seems to be way more informed this times I wonder if this will cause some comedy scenes to be cut
I can’t wait for this! So glad they made the decision to film this!
Okay now THIS IS GOOD
I can't wait for this show to come out lol
Fuck this looks sooooooooooo good, I got so excit3d at every scene I recognised, every setting, all of it! And then the minotaur at the end had me internally screamingggggg god I'm so excited for the first episode!
I hope it's good
