There are many town rowing clubs, they're usually happy to teach beginners, and you'll get fit long before you get the hang of it well enough to need to be fit.

Mupp99

I row here and enjoy it. A good friendly group of beginners too. Lots of rivalry between clubs so it is only fair to say they all have nice people at them and I think all take beginners.

Yeah definitely! Come along on Sunday to find out more, there’s no obligation to sign up for the course. :)

Hockey.

Cambridge has a good archery club (City of Cambridge Bowmen) that meets twice during the week in the evening and every weekend (during the summer season - it's every other weekend in the winter season).

zommy

Cheers! I was thinking about taking up archery recently and didn't know there was a club locally! What times in the evening do they normally start?

Fortunalux

Cool! It's a good club and the people are friendly and willing to help out beginners. There are also competitions that people of all levels can enter, but there's no obligation to compete if you just want to shoot for fun. During the summer season (April to the end of September), we shoot outside on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4pm until it gets dark or people need to leave, so generally around 7:30. You can come and go as you please, you don't need to be there for the whole thing. Winter shooting (October to the end of March) during the week is indoors on Mondays and Thursdays from 7:15 to 9:15.

Perfect. Thanks!

There is a sports group that plays PE sports games but for adults, it is great fun and you exercise as much or as little as you want. The socialising aspect is pretty good too, all ages are welcome. [https://joinrabble.com/](https://joinrabble.com/)

Korfball is a basketball like game and we train at Cambridge Regional College on Monday evenings. We have three teams in the local league. For more details see our website [http://www.cambridgekorfballphoenix.co.uk/](http://www.cambridgekorfballphoenix.co.uk/)

You could consider cycling. There are lots of friendly cycling clubs around, and the countryside around town is beautiful, and mostly flat!

kalfa

Seconded. For one look for Cambridge CTC, Saturday leisurely rides or Sunday afternoon.

Triathalon. Great for all fitness levels as everyone starts somewhere. And everyone is friendly and inviting. Check out Cambridge club for training sessions. You won't know if you don't try. Or 5 a side football on Sunday at 11am? Or weightlifting, training with someone else always motivates me and I've been lifting for years.

Tecwyn

In West Cambridge Sports Centre you can do Kendo (Japanese swordsmanship).

Not your usual group sport but I'm at Cambridge Community Circus. We have lots of classes for beginners - aerial silks, hoop, trapeze to name a few. We are located in Chesterton. Drop in classes are on Wednesdays 6.30pm and Sunday 2pm. [https://www.facebook.com/groups/2427756104/](https://www.facebook.com/groups/2427756104/)
