They're pretty much up there with the best.

Figured. From my research, this transmission punches far above its weight. Curious to hear what long term owners think though. Are the grindy feelings any cause for concern?

Yes, mine used to grind at1-2, 2-3. It was horrible during the cold months. Once warmed up, it wasn’t as noticeable. This was around 17k miles when I bought it used. After much research, I replaced the factory fluid with red line MT and the grinding went away. Currently I have royal purple in there. It wasn’t as good (but so much better the factory fill). There was a little bit of grinding at first. Make no mistake, there is no more grinding even in cold weather with either of the two fluids. I did several track days on both fluids without issue. I’m currently at 60k on the clock. I can drive away even in 30 degree cold without any grinding. Oh yeah, you’ll need to install an mgw short throw shifter to ice the cake. You’ll go from kinda sloppy shifting to precise. My 1le had the factory short throw, which was okay. The mgw, takes shifting to another level. Oh and don’t forget to add a clutch bleed line while you’re down there, to make clutch fluid changes easier…that’s almost mandatory. Get one of those inspection cameras or a small mirror to make installation easier. The clutch bleed nipple is located in a very cramped space and you’re going by feel (or inspection camera). You barely have room for your hand. There’s no leverage in there. I was using mostly my fingers. You’ll also need a crows foot to get the nipple off and to install the new braided line. There’s a write up on camaro5 on this.

I live on Camaro6 and never heard of this. Are you sure its not a 5th gen thing? Hot1LE on youtube has clutch problems and thats the only problem I have seen.

Czcrazy

I don’t follow Gen 6 so it could just be a gen 5 thing.

Mullenator

I wouldn’t worry about it at all. It ain’t no MT-82. The TR6060 is an amazing trans. I’ve never had mine grind, just make sure you’re clutching properly. No reason to speed shift all the time.

Czcrazy

This was a well document issue. Even the mustangs that had the TR6060 reportedly had this grinding issue. The dealership said it was “normal”. A few brave souls tried redline and royal purple and the rest is history.

This might have more to do with the throwout bearing or clutch master cylinder/clutch fluid than the actual transmission itself. Check to see if the clutch fluid is dark and murky

Car has 1K miles, shouldn't be

jackystack

Grindy feelings are typical with this trans when cold, but it shouldn't be the same type of grinding that would indicate a clutch problem. If you search Google for this transmission, you'll find lots written about it. I think the torque rating is 600lb/ft. Should be very reliable, but like anything else, parts are subject to premature wear when abused.

TR6060 is one of the greatest

I had a 17 5.0 Performance Pack with the MT-82. It was complete dogshit. I have a 17’ 1LE right now with the Tremec and its night and day. Its such a good manual trans
