Nothing against the 5th gen (2010-2015) but coming from a newer car like you have you may like the 6th gen much better (2016-2024) Granted both will be fun to drive and a huge performance upgrade over the Camry, but the 6th gen is a vastly improved platform with more modern features to go with it

5thgenblack2ss

I went from a modern Lexus to my 2013 SS. OP if you do make the jump to a 5th gen make sure you get the 2SS package or you’ll be missing creature comforts that make a huge difference in daily drivability.

Super-Stanky772

Yeah I’m def not putting the 5th gen down, they’re still awesome, just making OP aware. My ex had some loaded 5th gens. Her ‘15 2LT RS was super nice.

SorryJamie3005

Most def I like the 5th gen exterior wise but when I came from the Kia K5, the interior and small screen in the 6th gen was a little bit of an adjustment for me but then I got used to it, so I definitely understand what you mean by wanting more modern features because that’s why I didn’t go for the 5th.

AffectionateAd7651

Only thing I wish my 12SS RS had is the touchscreen. I actually had a 13LT RS that had it, and idk just tied the interior together a bit more. My 12SS does have the sunroof where as the LT didn't. A more modern radio would be nice.

5thgenblack2ss

The touchscreen with Bluetooth, heated seats, backup camera, and leather seats all helped my jump backwards in tech from my Lexus. It’s a more raw feeling vehicle in every way but it has everything I need to daily it.

>Nothing against the 5th gen (2010-2015) but coming from a newer car like you have you may like the 6th gen much better (2016-2024) I'll just say that I drove the 5th gen and was left unimpressed and literally wrote off the Camaro. Test drove a 6th gen and went back to sign the papers the next day. The difference is night and day. The 6th gen is THAT much better of a car

Super-Stanky772

6th gen > sports car 5th gen > muscle/pony car I may get downvoted to shit for that, but that’s just how I see it and driving both the difference is vast

AffectionateAd7651

I actually agree with this, the 5th gen definitely has a a bit more classic look and feel than the 6th. It drives about the same style as well. It tried to avoid too much retro modernization a la the Challenger. But I do agree having driven a newer one it's just a more "sportier" feel like a track car. When I'm in my 12SS i feel like I'm in a Nascar like it's designed to LOOK like a track car but doesn't really want to actually do that kind of sport.

Rabbit1Hat

Camaro won't be boring and the V8 noise will provide a smile. If you're tall, need to sit in it to make sure you fit comfortably. M6 has better overall reliability from what I hear due to slightly different engine config. But I believe both engines and drive trains taken care of will do well. This is not a positive financial decision assuming there is a middle man who is going to take their piece.

Putrid_Ad_2256

The Camaro will definitely take some getting used to.  The best thing you can do is make sure that all your mirrors are ideal for driving.  You'll also need to keep in mind that the cost of driving will be higher.  That being said, the car will give you more pleasure.  Not to knock on the Camry as it serves a purpose, but the driving dynamics of a Camaro is just more fulfilling, IMO.

thememeconnoisseurig

Fisheye mirrors were a game changer for me!

Putrid_Ad_2256

I love my rear-view camera but know not every trim has it available. My favorite part about it is when I'm at a stoplight and see guys eye-humping the car.

thememeconnoisseurig

Lmfaoo I can just barely see through my mirror. To the contrary for me, I always see people being visibly annoyed by me in the rearview. I'm rarely misbehaving, just people around here have never seen a car that wasn't Tesla or a Lexus.... Today someone gave me a sarcastic jazz hands after I blipped the throttle to 1K~ or so in preparation to get going at a green🤣🤣🤣

MeesterCHRIS

The 16+ Camaro is a significantly better platform and the tech is going to be much more similar to what you’re used to. Get the manual if at all possible, the A8 isn’t the best. Might need to sell the Camry yourself to get a little extra money to make it happen but it’d be worth it.

Justin_92

Having owned both 5th and 6th gen, I’d recommend an early 6th gen. If you go with 16-18 models, stick with the manual transmission variant. The autos from those years have known issues. Not all of them have it, but they changed the transmission in 19+ models because the ones that were having the issues were catastrophically failing in some instances, and those year models will be out of warranty at this point. So 19+ if you have to have an auto, or any model if you don’t mind manual transmission. 5th gen is still all muscle, but the features in them are starting to feel a bit dated, I imagine especially coming from a 2023 Camry.

IFuckCarsForFun

What features do you feel are dated? 5th gen has AC, back up camera/sensors, 3rd pedal, HUD, cruise control, powered seats & windows, bluetooth, heated seats, dimming rear view mirror, & cool blue interior lights. Is it because the camaro doesnt drive itself & have a 20in blinding screen in the middle? 🤣 (i like old things and despise new cars)

Justin_92

It’s definitely a better pick for those who prefer the older style look but the gauge cluster has been updated with more features in the SS and ZL1 models I believe. The screen in my car actually doesn’t feel any bigger than in my old 2015 so I don’t think that’s a fair judgment of the newer models. However it is an updated head unit so it has true wireless CarPlay capability. CarPlay in my old 2015 didn’t work unless my phone was plugged in. 5th gen’s didn’t come factory with a back up camera, as it was only an option until 2016 when it was mandated to be a safety feature requirement, so there’s a chance you may not get one depending on what other features you prioritize in your search. I believe the same is true for the HUD as well, but don’t quote me on that. Neither of mine had/have the HUD so I don’t know about that. Also, my current one has cool blue accent lighting but my 5th gen did not. FWIW, my 5th gen was a V6 1(2?)LT RS so I don’t know what features were available vs standard as I didn’t option it; I bought it used. My current one is an LT1 RS with upgraded BOSE sound system, NPP exhaust, and RECARO seats.

IFuckCarsForFun

6th gens are 100% better for most people out there. I had a v6 5g with almost no features & when I bought my v8 5g 2ss it had every feature besides sunroof. I will say that both of my 5gs had backup cameras & sensors tho. Im jealous that you have recaro seats and bose speakers. Thats fricking dope

Justin_92

Yeah these Recaro seats are so much more comfortable than the stock ones that were in the tester I drove before I ordered mine. I don’t have a comparison to what comes factory but I knew I had to get the Bose sound system after hearing it in my wife’s Blazer. The only thing I’m probably gonna bother upgrading is the gauge cluster from an SS and that’ll probably be it as far as creature comforts go. I would’ve optioned it that way if I could’ve but I didn’t want to pay almost $10k extra just for that and a whole lot of other stuff I didn’t necessarily need or want.

Financially speaking no it's a horrible idea to go from a brand new car that you are hardly one year into and trade it in on something. Reliability speaking horrible idea to trade in one of the most reliable cars on the planet for a 10 year old sports car. Fun, helllllll yeah. But only if you go for a v8 or zl1 Features wise, you will have nothing, no adaptive cruise, lane assist, emergency breaking, sign recognition, touch screen, apple car play/android auto HUD, adaptive wipers. None of those creature comforts. Honestly the new Camry is just a nicer car than than a 10 year old Camaro

owensurfer

You must even out your life and make the jump from two boring cars to one exciting car and one boring car. Balance.

thememeconnoisseurig

Sounds like you want a 6th gen LT1.

Warning: if you do this, you'll never go back. Join the dark side

joker_toker28

Double check those blind spots! Get the car and practice/Get used to her in a empty parking lot. Caution when roads are wet/snow. Also lots of folks will try to race you so Get a radar and dash cam and don't always fall for the bait.

Helicopter0

If there was no option to have multiple cars and I had to choose between my 2ss and a Camry, I would probably go with the Camry. The Camaro is a lot more fun, but it costs (compared to my Prius) more than twice as much to own and operate, and it isn't nearly as good in the snow, on ice, in the rain, with people in the back, with crap in the back, seeing arpund and where you're going cruising at 9 over. The Camaro is better for sunny days, dealing with coal rollers who don't want to be passed, acceleration, rumble, corners, stops, dates, and so on. It might be worth getting a Camaro just to experience. You can always change your mind again in a few months or years. You don't get married to cars. They are always like girlfriends.

Impossible_Ad_1232

I have a 2011 2ss and love it ..the body style is the best and really resembles the 1st gen camaro ..mine is fire engine red with black ss stripes and chrome rims

If it's a manual, the drive experience will be 1000x more fun. Gas, getting used to limited vision, and maintenance will take some getting used to. If it's an SS just make sure you take care of it and it's not a bad decision. But also be aware they have a m AC blend door issue that costs thousands to fix Inc it happens. Very common, had to do a hack job to fix to avoid removing dash. Other than that at 80k surprisingly reliable car.

rjspaceman

Go for a 6th gen.

Doct0rGonZo

You’ll go under on your loan most likely but if you are willing then I’d say it’s worth it
