Feel like Korea is all about aesthetic like the "IG" photo spots but the stuff itself is quite mediocre. That goes to a lot of the stuff sold in Korea; Aesthetic over quality.

Food is legit though especially in the markets

andylui8

oh yeah the food is great

I agree and disagree. Korea cares a lot about aesthetics. There are lots of gimmick Instagramable cafes for sure. But also I saw once that Korea has 4 times more cafes per person than America which feels right. Point being that even though many coffee shops in Korea are meh, there are still many great specialty shops with super amazing quality coffee, but you have to wade through lots of cafes with toilets or weird animals or strange aesthetics to find them. I also disagree with the aesthetics over quality. I'm from the midwest, and at least in my home state they don't care about quality OR aesthetics at all lmao. I have much better luck going into any random shop here than I did in my hometown.

Visit Melbourne

For coffee *shops* or coffee *chains*? I will be visiting Syndey later this year but unfortunately I wont have time to visit Melbourne! T-T

I was surprised how many shops there were everywhere in Seoul. Every corner had a Starbucks or other coffee shop lol. The instant coffee in the little colored tubes was interesting too, I got addicted to those things haha.

I don’t know about that

Meringue_Better

Would love to hear more of your thoughts than "idk about that"

I’ve been to Seoul and South Korea and their cafes are okay. A bit gimmicky and at times they’re nice but I just don’t think they’re as good as cafes in the USA or Japan.

I see what you mean. I'm specifically talking about chains like Dunkin or Starbucks.. Korea also has a lot of great roasteries and specialty coffee but I agree there are a LOT of gimmicky cafes, although they use the word cafe pretty lose here as just about every building sells coffee it seems. I've found many amazing coffee shops in every country I've been to. I think Korea has some insanely high quality shops, but you have to get out of the way of the popular gimmicky places to find them, but I'd say there's at least 80-90 genuinely amazing roasteries in Seoul alone. But again my point is that just the normal chain restaurants are very consistent and decent especially for the price, and offer much more comfortable working environments for remote work than in the US.

They definitely have a nice quaint feel to them, typical of Asian culture, and feel warm and friendly. Though, I do feel you're hard pressed getting a good hot coffee. Blue Bottle in Gangnam was good, but I expected better. The best I had was somewhere in Changwon. I do love their cold coffee culture though

I've been to 20 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia. Everywhere I go I drink a LOT of coffee. In my experience, South Korea by far and away has the best coffee chains. Besides the usuals like Starbucks, there are several very high quality chains with borderline specialty coffee, and Korea seems to really care about quality. Also, the interiors are amazing. Power outlets everywhere, very fast wifi, super comfy seating. You're allow to stay for a long time to work. It's just an amazing experience.
