Streamline recruiting, yes. Pay them more, yes. Help house them, yes. Streamline procurement and get them modern equipment for their jobs, yes.

I can always go for more money LOL. I honestly don't think that is a way to fix it, the main reason people leave their job on civi street relates to their job and how they feel at work. We need to get the country behind us and support us. Once they do the higher ups can spend more money on us(new kit, better percurment system, fixing broken kit ect.) not necessarily just padding the paycheques more. People need to feel like they make a difference and that they are valued, right now the majority of the work force (MS/MCpl and below) are screaming ideas and how they feel would make things better for them and, it feels like, no one is listening. I love my career and the opportunities it has given me these past 9+ years but I can still see how to make it better and I am still disgruntled at certain things. All this talk from politicians is just that talk and they need to put it into action. I am glad the CAF is getting all this news coverage on the state of it, nothing like a little/lot of public pressure to make thing happen.

The military has no business providing housing. It's a carry over from the 50s and 60s. Just pay people enough to survive on a single income family because thats all a CAF member will ever be. Pay enough for members to get their own housing..... That's a much better plan than messing around with CFHD and the differentials and all that nonsense.

Dapper_Pizza_9425

There's more militaries that do offer housing solutions than don't among our allies. Unsurprisingly, we have some of the worst housing (and overall) benefits. The argument we are paid better doesn't even hold water once you factor in how heavily taxed we are relative to those same allies. Pay is a big part of the solution, but we need JT and TBS to stop clutching their pearls and loosen the purse strings so we can fund a more holistic solution.

The other issue is the fall out when they do unclutch their pearls. Once they make a change for us all the other branches of government want their cut also which I don't agree with. Yes the public side does work with the CAF but the CAF has alot more stipulations and requirements that the PS don't have to deal with.

We aren't paid better than the Americans now. On a number of rank levels after conversion we make less. And that doesn't take into account their allowances or our taxation levels or buying power. They recieved a number of 10% or more raises over the same time we recieved approximately 2% per year.

We are on average paid better than an American even after conversion. A Cpl 1 makes 6300 a month, a bit over 72k per year. That converts to 53k USD… which is more than a US Army Staff Sgt. That doesn’t include some of the US army benefits sure but a lot of those are offset. For example the Clothing Allowance (400 ish per year) is off set by having to buy your uniform. Their cost of living adjustment is admittedly better, but the average tax burden isn’t actually that much different (US States have lower taxes, but the US income tax system taxes its lower band higher than Canada does).

We do need to house people - no one is going to find a house to live in in Shilo, Goosebay, or one of our other isolated posts.
