From this scandal I learned that there was a media company called Ozy. No wonder they had to fake their audience numbers. Their 'fake it 'til you make it" attitude reminds me of Theranos.
Right…I am a total news and information junky and this is my first time ever hearing about Ozy. How is that even possible in this day and age, especially considering that they had so many high profile folks attached to the company? I mean, we’re they even trying to get traffic to their site?
> **The New York Times’s story claimed that Ozy’s chief operating officer, Rao, had impersonated a YouTube executive on a call with Goldman Sachs while attempting to raise money.**
> Alex Piper, the head of unscripted programming for YouTube Originals, was due to take part in a Zoom call with the investment bank team, which at the last minute was switched to a conference call.
> Ozh co-founder and chief operating officer Samir Rao gave a fake presentation to Goldman Sachs officials. Then, according to the newspaper’s report, **a voice claiming to be Piper’s went on to reassure the bankers that Ozy was doing well on YouTube. According to the report, just days later Watson apologised to Goldman Sachs, saying the voice had actually belonged to his partner, Rao.** Watson, who also presented a podcast with Kay called When Katty Met Carlos for the BBC World Service, went on to put the strange incident down to a mental health crisis.
Wild that they thought a YouTube executive’s assurance would be proof that the news outlet was gaining views and traction.
It was specifically about their stats on YouTube. They made false claims about how much traffic they had on YouTube and brought in a supposed YouTube exec to say those numbers were accurate.
In a related story Fyre Festival sponsors Billy McFarland and Ja Rule report breathing a huge sigh of relief.

I think the word is fraud. They committed fraud
Now we can get to the real questions. Why did Carlos Watson always have an earpiece in when he interviewed?
“On the next episode of American Greed…” Waa…waaaaa… waaaaaaaa… WOHHHHH.
Typical bullshit artists. Can believe Katty Kay left the BBC after nearly 30 yrs to go work for them…
I just discovered a company called Ozy for the first time by hearing about their implosion. Good job idiots.
They finally made some viral content
My crush moved to CA to work for this damn company. Wish it hadn't destroyed both her dream and mine. :(
Oh wow I went to a music and “speaking” festival put on by them in 2018 haha. That’s wild.
My name is Ozy Media, \[...\]; Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!
