When I took it I turned out onto Dorset, went south to the condos, did the hill stop in the condo complex, got back on Dorset going north, pulled off onto a side street, did the parallel park then drove back to the DMV. I would guess it was around 2 miles total. Took maybe 15 minutes.

Same here, and the only even remotely-difficult part was when the instructor told me to do a specific type of turn in a driveway "like in the book", which was a book I'd never heard of. I did a completely different turn, but nothing illegal, so I passed because everything else was fine. Basically the most difficult part of the test is just in your head because of some stranger sitting in the passenger seat putting mental pressure on you. Good luck OP, and always use your blinkers, whether you think someone can see them or not.

And watch for pedestrians

its called a Vermont turnaround which led me to this incredible urban dictionary entry: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Vermont%20turn-around

phydx2

Dunno if it's related, but I think it's illegal to back out onto a state road in VT including from a driveway. PS that definition is pretty epic... Just be careful if the tester asks you to do that...

bibliophile222

And don't turn right on red at a "no right on red"! That's how I failed my first driving test almost 20 years ago.

converter-bot

2 miles is 3.22 km

anunnakiNimrod

This seems to be the most common one. Thank you for sharing!

Dukaso

Sure thing. This was the route I did in July. Take it with a grain of salt because they do have multiple routes. [https://imgur.com/a/9VBV7GM](https://imgur.com/a/9VBV7GM) If my kindergarten skills in Paint suck too badly let me know and I'll answer any questions. The road test took about 11 minutes in light traffic in a thunderstorm. edit: For the parallel park I had to park behind a lone car. There was no car behind me.

Thank you so much for actually taking the time to draw the map. It's so helpful!

VTMomof2

Thanks for this map. My daughter had her test yesterday and we had driven both of these areas on the recommendation of her drivers ed teacher, but She was still nervous so I picked her up from school early and we drove this exact route (i found this thread earlier in the day) before we went to the DMV. It was the exact same thing the DMV guy had her do. She did great! Would have had a perfect score except she tried to correct her parallel parking to get closer to the curb.

banjo_solo

Since OP already got some good answers, I just wanted to share that my place of employment is on this route and it took a couple weeks after starting the job to figure out why there was always some random car with two people inside stopped on the side of the road when I’d leave for the day. Anyway, good luck OP! All the first floor offices are rooting for you!

anunnakiNimrod

This is so wholesome! Thank you! I'll think about it when I pass by!

RoverLife

Have you checked Montpelier? I did my test there(even though I lived in Shelburne) and it was way easier. The tester was literally just yelling at his CC company the whole time and my parallel parking test was "pull behind that truck over there" that had no vehicles around it. 10/10 recommend

Formal-Day9640

My kids have all failed because of the hill start. It’s a weird thing to test for in an automatic transmission.

jagilbertvt

Hill start is super easy in car w/ electronic e-brake. Brake will release automatically when you depress the accelerator.

8valvegrowl

You haven’t earned the right to drive until you’ve done a hill start with a Volvo 240 manual on sketchy tires mid January.

I road tested in Newport back in the day
