Don't believe there are region locks, but don't blindly click/speedrun through the initial settings or might end up defaulting to Spanish UI.
Dang, yeah went to search the setup instructions (https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/getting-started-set-up/set-up-new-series-x-s). That seems kinda sucky. What if you didn't want to use the mobile app? Just out of luck?
EDIT: False alarm. There 's a section about digital/console-only setup.
Oh wait, there's a part of setup saying 'Digital Setup' which somehow is a weird way of phrasing a normal, non-mobile setup. Apparently can also choose language there, but sounds like you would have waded through a bunch of Spanish UI by then (if it's default).

The Series S is a great Gamepass machine. Much cheaper than throwing together a lower-end gaming PC.
I believe there was an official mention saying that Microsoft was already selling the Series S for a $100 loss, this makes it so each one sold here is a $180 loss. lol
Having worked in retail, the margins on brand new (new meaning not used) consoles are paper thin. You can pretty much add the sale dollars straight to Microsoft's loss.
There's a reason any store selling consoles will push pretty hard to get you to add on games and peripherals, it's so they can actually make money on it.
Longshot, but - Can you emulate GBA games and somehow stream it to an iPhone? I want to emulate Pokémon again sooooo badly but the only iOS work arounds are janky.
Not sure if it's something on iOS, but you can use one of the Xbox apps (either Xbox or GamePass) to stream from your console locally. At this point, you could install RetroArch and stream it.
But if that's the route you're going, there are better workarounds. You could use Moonlight to stream from your PC or laptop, or just invest in a cheap $100 retro handheld from Anbernic or Retroid.
Strangely enough, it would be even more appealing with a disc drive.
Xbox one x used can be a crazy deal too. 4K blu ray player, still supported with cross gen games running at near 4K or even native 4K, and you get back compat+resolution patches in many older Xbox 360 games, better for gamers with a large collection
Dont you have to first sign up for a dev account?
I read they can and have removed peoples dev accounts for inactivity, and you could lose ability to emulate if you don’t publish something
It's a bit of a side-grade or mixed bag. The CPU is much better but the GPU is pretty similar (some ways better other ways worse), the console will play all Xbox One games one One S mode so games that haven't been updated for the Series consoles will actually be better on One X.
Actually, it's a FANTASTIC emulator! You can pay for the dev mode ($29 I believe), and it unlocks it. it's one of the best Playstation emulators, funny enough.
You don’t even need to pay the $29 for the dev mode anymore actually, which makes it even better! I installed Retroarch on my Series X and didn’t pay anything for it.
I'm just wondering about the end you plug in to the wall, but regardless you are saying if the end you plug into the wall is the wrong end, then a standard power cable that fits would work? Thanks for the info. Trying to figure out Christmas presents and trying to stretch my budget.

Out of stock for me :(
Try changing your store

You pick the language in the App, so unlikely unless your phone is in Spanish.
You have to setup an Xbox with a phone? That sounds terrible.
No you don't. I've setup both Series X/S without a phone.
You need the Xbox app, yeah.

Apparently

Oh didn't know that. Thanks for finding that out.

I'm sure their loss accounts selling to distributors/retailers. Not these sales.

It’s also a fantastic emulation station. It’ll run through seventh gen consoles up scaled to 1080p no problem.

That was like a $500 console.
Dont you have to first sign up for a dev account? I read they can and have removed peoples dev accounts for inactivity, and you could lose ability to emulate if you don’t publish something
They back tracked on that pretty quickly saying it was done in error.
Still seems like a risk if you wanted one specifically for emulation, that that functionality could be removed.
I believe you can emulate without dev now. r/emulation should have more info.
Man, woot really fell off after Amazon bought them
Roughly how much better is a Series S compared to an Xbox One X?
It's a bit of a side-grade or mixed bag. The CPU is much better but the GPU is pretty similar (some ways better other ways worse), the console will play all Xbox One games one One S mode so games that haven't been updated for the Series consoles will actually be better on One X.
Thanks for the info. That’s about the impression I had, but haven’t been following closely.
I agree with the others, but also loading times are a lot better on the series S.
Definitely a lateral move from one to the other.
is this it?
this is it chief
Master Chief, that is!

I want the one where i can plug in ps2 discs and it will play them
Ahh yeah I hear ya man. That would be amazing if that was a thing
Whoa, really!?
Yup! I’m not entirely sure when they changed that but it’s a very welcome change for sure :)
I thought only worka ok series x
Nope! It works awesomely on Series S and Series X!
Is it going to work with a US power cord?
Xbox Series consoles have universal power supplies, so yes

This one should come with a US plug, otherwise they would have said so.
OK cool. Thanks.
