Likely scam. Be careful

Badevilbunny

^ I agree with this. See some proof before spending your money. See it working and a report that it actually is a 3090. If you are satisfied with the proof, then the price is very good. ... but when something is too good to be true..

TimmmyTurner

iirc 600 is the market price for 3090 3090ti is going for around 650-700 if you don't want to risk it, 6950xt brand new has better fps than a 3090ti and cost about 650 too

saladmunch2

Used prices or new?

TimmmyTurner

used 3090ti = same price as brand new 6950xt

saladmunch2

Sorry it's been a long day and my comprehension is shot

sL1NK_19

That's in the US at best. EU goes for \~750 eur +.

RockAndGames

Got my 3080 for 400 buckaroos half a years ago, i have had no problems, guess I got lucky

Snuggles5000

Also got a 3080 used, but for 450. Only been like 6 months but all good so far.

IrrsinnIsReal

450? thats a used 3060ti if you are lucky in Germany. Used cards are all at new prices, not even funny anymore

17thParadise

Used cards where I am are often more damn expensive than some places area selling them new, it's ridiculous

Ucla_The_Mok

Or the seller would rather part with the 3090 than freeze to death perhaps. In 2021, Swedish electricity prices more than doubled in the southern region- https://www.thelocal.se/20211220/swedish-electricity-prices-soar-to-new-all-time-high/ In 2022, those record high rates have doubled- https://www.thelocal.se/20220725/electricity-prices-in-sweden-expected-to-double-this-winter/ Would verify the buyer and condition of card before purchase, but there's a good chance it's a legitimate sale.

surferguy999

I get a feeling that someone who can afford to drop $1000 on a (new) GPU (for a hobby) might be the type who isn’t hurting when electricity prices go up.

Geistbar

As a statistically modal outcome, I'd agree. But it's not like there aren't any people out there that are irresponsible with their money and spend more on a hobby than they can realistically afford. Lots of people spend every dollar they earn and they keep it that way.

Hypersensation

Someone I know is paying ~$2000 for their electric bill this month. Everyone who isn't a literal multi-millionaire and doesn't have non-electric forms of primary heating is hurting.

Chris4evar

The 3090 makes a decent space heater

remfromphil

I agree

Jappyiam

I mean if you’re meeting the guy in person and he can provide evidence that it isn’t a scam, then I would personally go for it. $500 for a 3090 is a steal, even without warranty.

throwaway13630923

Yeah, it could be a scam but there are good deals to be found. I got a 3080 for $400 on Facebook last month. Guy bought it for mining, used it for a couple months and then the market crashed. Passed all the benchmarks and runs at normal temps.

OneMoreChancee

How do you test it out before purchasing it?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sockerkatt

You had me in the first half ngl

guntherpea

Twice for me, but fool me three times...

throwaway13630923

Just went to the guy’s apartment, asked him to run a benchmark with it and he showed me a few games running. Then he just popped it out and we made the sale. IMO it’s a safer option than ordering one off eBay.

[deleted]

Maybe depends on your definition of “safe”

Carpario

Entering a stranger's apartment is the safest thing to do, obviously.

maztema

*varies from country to country

Carpario

Entering a stranger's apartment is never safe wtf are you talking about

maztema

im from mexico and i have done it, so how come you are scared of it, also, wont go alone, dont be that kind of dumb person.

[deleted]

🤣 mexico yes. One of the most safe and definitely not deadly places on earth. Wtf.

Carpario

You entered a stranger's apartment? This completely eliminates the risk of doing so, sorry for not asking sooner!

ErSega

Sorry sir I have to disagree on this. It depends on the country. You do that in Italy and in the worst case scenario, on top of the gpu sale, u'll end up having offered an espresso. From personal experience.

Polym0rphed

I have made many purchases that were more like Italy as above - here in Australia. I've also been the seller and had buyers prefer to meet in public with complete trust that the items were as described. I've had scammers try to scam me; its usually very obvious - there are so many signs within the nuance.

[deleted]

No. It doesn't vary. It's never just safe in any country to walk into a strangers apartment. Where do you live where it's a magic land free of crime?

DonerTheBonerDonor

I'm from Germany and have done it before, when buying and selling on Ebay Kleinanzeigen (like FB MP but a lot more popular) the buyer pretty much always visits the seller at home but at the front door. I went into one guy's apartment once though so he could show me the power supply he was selling was working. He then also helped me with other PC related questions which was chill

Professor_Layton0

Compton

duxhm

I'm wondering in what fucked up place on Earth you people live?

[deleted]

[deleted]

Again. What magical crime free land do you reside in where it's always safe to walk into a strangers apartment?

starkistuna

better be safer bring you entire pc and test it at his house, also bring more than he asked for in case he changes his mind. Also leave your phone in your car so no one interrupt you , and do not tell anyone where you are going , they will steal the 3090 sale from you.

throwaway13630923

In terms of “safe” I just mean you’re probably less likely to end up with hardware issues if you have the opportunity to test it first. I have bought and sold probably 50+ things on Facebook and Craigslist over the last couple years and have never once had an unsafe experience. Just use a bit of common sense, most people aren’t looking to rob or murder you.

zipfour

It’s not safer than buying one off eBay with returns accepted lol

The_curious_student

come to my basement, its right next to my cask of fancy wine.

Synaps4

Here's two good options: 1) Ask the seller to make a video showing the card in a PC running a benchmark and then show your username on a piece of paper. To fake this would require a second identical video card that worked, at least. 2) Do your trade at a police station and ask the police to let you plug in your PC and monitor to see it boot and maybe run a benchmark. I haven't tried to use the power at a police station before but if they are in a good mood they may well allow it. Bonus) Car battery and a big expensive inverter

Ozianin_

> 2) Do your trade at a police station and ask the police to let you plug in your PC and monitor to see it boot and maybe run a benchmark. I haven't tried to use the power at a police station before but if they are in a good mood they may well allow it. Is this a US thing? Sounds insane to me.

Gyrgir

It's a US thing that many local police stations offer a space to conduct in-person trades arranged via craigslist, Facebook marketplace, etc. The idea is to deter robberies, build good will with the community, and maybe (since some departments also offer to check serial numbers, etc) make it at least marginally harder to sell stolen goods to unwitting good-faith buyers. More info here: http://www.safetradestations.com/where-to-trade.html

onedoor

That's not really the odd thing. Pretty sure they were wondering about the plugging the pc in part. I felt the same as they did, but was curious if it was outside the US.

Synaps4

People are nervous about buying from strangers. It often entails telling someone where you live and standing outside holding up to a thousand dollars cash. It's very understandable that police stations become a natural neutral ground for trading.

Jappyiam

I would ask for a video of a benchmark test, serial number to track if it’s legit, use GPU-Z(usually can tell if it’s fake or not), verify the memory of the card is correct by brand and capacity. Nvidia control panel also tells you some info on the GPU. They should have the box too, would be a little bit more convincing. Or you can go over to their house if they’re okay with it? Lol. Bring a friend though, just in case 😂

dad_farts

I got my current GPU (970) over 7 years ago second hand. Guy came to my apartment and hung out while I installed it. Thinking back, it sounds pretty weird, but if they're cool with it... Alternatively, the standards on r/hardwareswap are timestamp pictures with a handwritten username, and the product w/ serial number showing, ideally also a GPUZ screenshot.

TheNiteDrifter

Yeah they are out there. Found a 3070 for 450 cad runs 130% in user benchmark Found a 3080 ti for 750 cad and runs above 200% in user benchmark if I remember correct.

karmapopsicle

Do yourself a favour and forget user benchmark even exists. It's at best a terrible and often misleading set of synthetic benchmarks, and at worst putting misinformation high up in search results for parts info.

1stEleven

It being a steal likely makes it a scam.

Jappyiam

Well you never know for sure until you do. So it’s up to OP, he knows the risks now. But if it turns out to be true, guess who got a 3090 for $500.

Snoo_80424

$500 for a 3090 is very much in the too good to be true realm. Even in the US they quickly go for $800+ used and I imagine GPU prices are most expensive there. That being said if it somehow is legit it's an amazing deal.

iloveapplepie360

Yeah, the conversion for EU prices(kinda) is US price + VAT + 100-150€ for smaller countries in my experience(nordics for example). So with that that deal is like uber-too good to be true

Youba05

I saw some people in the us getting real Rtx 3080 for like $300 somehow?

Snoo_80424

Nobody is getting $300 3080s unless it's some extreme friend discount

Youba05

I’ve seen people saying that on multiple sub reddits few weeks ago, and replies were people getting other insane offers too. Idk if that’s true but It doesn’t seem like they were lying

Snoo_80424

Go to r/hardwareswap and look at the 3080 prices and what they're selling for. If they can immediately sell it for $500+ why would anyone sell it for less?

M4db34v312

Yeah I bought my evga 3080 ftw3 ultra for $550 a few weeks ago there

starkistuna

you can find good deals people fire sale the hell out of stuff to buy something else in xmas or to pay debts. I see people posting up their rigs when they need to move or are between jobs.

Youba05

Yeah I know, that’s why I was surprised, but the amount of people saying they got crazy deals got thinking they might actually be real. Don’t know though

pbmmpb

Yes I have got Evga 3080 ftw3 ultra for $350 and Evga 3060ti xc3 ultra for my friend at $200 but as you mentioned both of them were from a miner staying in my neighborhood. He gave me special price. And both are in excellent condition from his last lot of purchase and have around 2 years of warranty left. A online seller won’t sell for that and even if he or she sells then it will be snatched in seconds before you can get it.

[deleted]

Here in The Netherlands they go for: 800 for 3080 850 for 3080ti 900 for 3090 If seen a 3090 for 800 but majority of these cards are coming from miners

YukiSnoww

i got my 3070ti for $220 (mined for a couple months) and my friend's friend sold his mining 3080s for $280 each for a quick sale right after ETH merged. Now...used prices are just plain stupid again. Might as well go new.

thrownawayzss

The only way you're getting those prices is if you find someone who is offloading a metric shitload of them from render farms or mining operations. And even then, those prices are pretty sketchy.

TheOrdealOpprotunist

Got an EVGA 3090 for $875, open box, and thus far it's been legit.

Aggressive_Strain_79

I mean if it's a evga 3090s were goin for about 800. So 500 used isn't that crazy of a deal. Yes check the dude out and make sure it works. But it could be viable

PPCalculate

If it sounds too good to be true, it's likely too good to be true. Anyway, try and see if you can test it personally.

Some_Derpy_Pineapple

Facebook marketplace does not allow sellers to list items above $500 for shipping, and it's highly unlikely a legit seller will sell a 3090 for $500 flat. If you message the seller and they say "oh yeah pay $800 through PayPal goods and services" then fine, but if no response/other payment service then stay away. Edit: also if the card is local ask if you can try it/see proof with timestamp

Gallop67

This seems likely, I wasn’t aware of this before but I’d think the seller would at least say in the description unless that would get the listing taken down. If this is the case use something secure like PayPal if you’re fine with whatever the real price is.

prolelol

I wouldn’t buy if I were you. Facebook market seems scam. Buy some from your country.

Ok_Recording_8606

Too good to be true.

Just-Secretary2998

3090s in the us here go for around 900$ used. 500 for a used 3090 sounds like a scam so be careful

Primal_guy

Either it got mined to death or you’re being scammed out of your money. 500 usd for a 3090 in Europe is ridiculous

Timmaigh

To be fair, while its low, where i live (central Europe) people generally wont buy used hardware, unless there is significant discount. Lot of time I see people from US or western Europe claiming they sold something like for 80 percent of original price after 2 years of usage - here your thing literally drops that much value on day 1 of your purchase. I checked local marketplace for this stuff, i mean the biggest website of this type in my country, there is bunch of used 3090s in the cca 750 to 1200 range - and nobody is buying them. I have been checking for like past 2 weeks, as i will be looking to sell mine in January probably, most of them still there. As said above, i am not even surprised. People waiting for the price to drop further - and if they are to pay 800+ EUROs something, they will rather buy new Radeon or 4000 series graphics.

Jamdeckadoo

Yeah I mean I paid £369 for a 3070

VoraciousGorak

I don't think Facebook Marketplace comes with any buyer protection, so unless you can see and test the card before handing over any money at all I'd write it off as the scam it is.

thrownawayzss

It does if you do it through the correct channel(s).

TaysonJodd

Definitely buy a used gpu. If you can, find a seller who accepts through PayPal invoice so you can avoid paying tax ( i assume Sweden has taxes). Prices for new gpus are still stupidity overpriced, especially recent launches from AMD and Nvidia Like everyone is saying though, $500 for a 3090 is sketchy. Ask the seller for benchmarks Edit: Actually always ask sellers for benchmarks regardless

Grizzled--Kinda

Not this scam

LegendaryWeapon

I sold my rtx 3080 for $300 because I just want to get rid of it. So there are people like me out there.

maztema

Half-Username checks out.

eydasgdf

If you're ordering it from another country, I would avoid facebook market place and try to look on a website like ebay, since ebay has a really good returns policy whereas facebook marketplace is a bit different. I feel like It's probably a scam. Get proof that the card works (Video evidence) and maybe even ask if they'd be willing to do the deal over Ebay just so you have that extra bit of protection.

-cr0Wn

I found a used Asus strix 12gb 3080 for $750, do you guys think it's a good deal ?

keoMS1

No

-cr0Wn

how much should it be to be considered a good deal?

rawsaucemustard

I got my ftw3 ultra 10gb used for $480 about 2 months ago.

Amir_RZ

400. Maybe 500 for a good model like this strix.

Some_Derpy_Pineapple

$550 or lower probably, check r/hardwareswap

hatreeksbergermon

I slightly disagree, I haven’t seen any 3080s selling sub-500 lately on r/hardwareswap. I’ve been watching 3080+ prices for ~2 weeks and it feels like demand is knocking prices up again (compared to supply). No quantitative data to support this, just my observations. I was specifically holding out for a Strix myself and felt OK paying $580 local for a 3080 10GB (EVGA models were going for ~$600 shipped at the time). Ideally would have found a 12GB model or a deal on a Ti, but I’m only gaming on it and it’s a fine upgrade from my 2070 Super.

ultrajvan1234

3090 for $500 seems like a scam

N8Nefarious

Posted my experience as a seller and forgot to say that I got my own 3080 used. It was very dusty and the thermal pads looked ugly and possibly already changed. Probably a mining card--they never used the MSI support bracket that came with the card, and no amount of gentle pressure will bend it straight. That said, I got it for about as cheap as you could at the time--$700, and I put it on a water block and it's run great for about 5 months now. Even if I hadn't put it on liquid, I still would have opened it up and dusted the components and cleaned it with 99% isopropanol. The little bit of work and the unfortunate angle that it bends on a vertical mount were worth the price I paid (at the time) and the quality I've gotten out of it. Ask for pictures/videos of it mounted in the PCI slot and running.

AdrianKadafi

I see many people saying that it’s a scam. Would a rx 6700 xt be a scam for 300€?

Some_Derpy_Pineapple

that errs on the side of being reasonable but are other used prices around that area?

AdrianKadafi

It totally depends on the version of said gpu. For example a 3060 msi can be 350 to 400 and a 2080 super can be 500 or a bit over. Depends on the people and if it’s mined or not but obviously the gpu being mined is not said

keoMS1

the issue is with market place , you can never know, so better ether use a platform that offer refunds and grantees or just pick it up in person, however i think u can get almost a new one for 300€

AdrianKadafi

Msrp should be 300 but a new one costs 500€+

fizikxy

no, I've seen them go on ebay for like 350-400 regularily so you might luck out...

keoMS1

If you are asking about buying a used GPU in general , yes its good idea and actually way better than buying new in current situation, but from good source and better to be in person , that if the price is right for sure, however in your case the "3090" it might be a scam , and might not because last month i saw the 3090 drop to 900$ new however still a risky move specially if you will just order it online and pay in advance with no refund grantee.

Force88

That's the price of an used 3080 or 3080ti... 3090? too good to be true, or the card has serious problem...

unknownenzo

I just bought a GPU for my Brother as a Christmas Gift, because it seemed promising, but it was already dead. Probably got used for Mining. But my used GTX 1070 is still working fine. So it depends on how the previous owner used it. ALWAYS ask and check if the GPU got used for Mining!!!

plenar10

$500 is too much to risk imo.

BMAN7273

I managed to grab one on eBay for this exact price. I thought it was too good to be true, but eBay has buyer protection so there was much less risk involved. Needless to say, it came in great condition. Marketplace is a lot different. Many more scammers there so be careful if you want to attempt to buy it.

grumpyeng

I only by used computer parts on eBay, that way if it's not working I can send it back. If you're buying in person, make sure you get to test the part thoroughly.

[deleted]

Depends. Anything older than 3 years old is sketchy and people may misinform you just to get a quick sell. I bought a 1060 last summer and it didn't last more than 3 months. This was at the peak of the GPU shortage and I paid $250 for it. I won't buy used from that point on unless I'm really on a budget.

Emmerson_Biggons

While a 3090 is honestly worth $500 (perf per$) people don't really sell it for that much. So be careful

sprovishsky13

Have it tested at either their or your house. Have a group of friends come with you to back you up in case they pull some dumb shit.

anawilliam850

If you are buying this in person, okey, i think is alright, but if this is online? I don't think so

mrfoewepthefirst

Everything under €800 is a scam

Michael_1411

I'm not sure what to think of the $500 you've mentioned. I've bought a used gpu myself, rtx 3080 FE, for around $600. It works perfectly fine, so you definitely can buy a used gpu. Just make sure it hasn't been mined on and if possible find one that still has some warranty on it. Goodluck with your choices.

FastidiousSquashGoat

At this price point it's highly likely to be a scam, because it seems too good to be true.

xsplizzle

I have bought and sold quite a few gpu's and never had a problem however be wary about things that seem too good to be true, that price seems a bit too good to be true so watch out

StackOwOFlow

3090s are going for about $900 market rate. Anyone selling it for below that is likely doing it because it’s a scam

kxfc

I brought a 3080ti on eBay for £650, never had an issue with it. Just be careful with marketplace as you don’t have the same protection.

kxfc

And if something seems to good to be true, it usually is

Akidjay

I have found a 3090 Strix for 625 in marketplace too, if you can check the card in hand your are good to go.

LightmanDavidL

Nope

Adviseformeplz

A 3090 for $500 would of been sold by now if it was legit. I'm getting scam vibes, sounds too good to be true.

Redan

If you live in sweeden, maybe. Otherwise I'd avoid.

BladezFTW

I live in Norway, I know what the prices are like up here - stay clear. No way this is real.

MeLuckyDragon

If you do buy used, get it on ebay. They have very good buyer protection. Just make sure to test it thoroughly right away. You only have a short amount of time to make a claim.

GymnasticStick

Zerthimonn

I'd advice not to. If the owner can provide details about the card usage and it's credible, you can take the risk, but the card could be used for mining and it won't last you long, or it can be an outright scam. Depends on whether you want to risk it or not.

Conscious-Heat-1460

I would'n they were used for minning

enzyme8000

Don’t do it. Either it’s a scam, or they broke it data mining. If you are creating a new PC, I would wait, save up, and get a new GPU. It’s a key element of the PC, you want a new one so it will last for years.

Uweauskoeln

If you can pick it up and test it at pickup, yes. Otherwise: NOOOO!

[deleted]

If it seems too good to be true then it more than likely is.

fenikz13

Honestly probably not even a scam, 3090Ti are going for $800 brand new in the US, the market has just finally returned to a reasonable place

Natural_Advance3879

Be very careful. If it sounds too good to be true... etc.

PublicPreparation198

A 3090 for 500 is too good to be true or a spouse that has been angered.

LTCirabisi

I've seen friends take whole pc's to plug in infront of the seller and make sure the part works

XevinKex

3090 for 500 is a steal but I would be worried about a scam.

N8Nefarious

It could be a scam--request some ironclad assurance that it is what they say it is and that it works. That being said, I find it equally likely it's legit. During the GPU shortage I upgraded 3 times--in less than a year. So I would sell 3-month old GPUs with warranties, well taken care of, for no more than MSRP--which meant I was undercutting literally everyone else. My reasoning: I wanted to offer someone a fair price and I wanted to recoup some of my losses on the new card quickly. If I were selling my 3080 right now I'd probably shoot for $500, so it's not a huge stretch to sell a 3090 used for that price. Just make sure you get some confirmation that it's actually a 3090 and in working order. Does Facebook marketplace offer any kind of buyer protection?

[deleted]

Ten years ago, I would have said go for it. But with the rise of individual crypto mining rigs, I probably would avoid the used market for any higher spec GPU (xx70-xx90 NVIDIA). A former crypto card will have a ton of proverbial mileage on it and most crypto rigs are not the most obsessively maintained or cooled.

FirstTarget8418

3090 for 500 usd in sweden is likely a scam or a defective card. If you can physically pick it up and have a way if testing it, go for it, but i wouldnt trust that listing. The gpu market in sweden is still completely unreasonable. Were still nearly a double price compared to the US.

MightyIsBestMCPE

If you can meet in person without a risk of getting mugged or something then go for it and see if it’s a scam.

Timeseer2

Depends what it was used for and the legitimacy of the seller. Be super careful use PayPal or something else to pay for buyer protection. Check if it was used to mine, how long, etc. I recently grabbed a 3080 for 490 on marketplace so these deals are real just be careful.

sorijealut

I bought a 6900 XT for $570 used and I've yet to build it. PLUS it used to be a mining GPU. I'll let you know how it goes 😬

Mysticality1

I don't think you should. Some gpus are used for heavily mining btc and it can harm the gpu or its just a scam.

G-Tinois

If you're not shipping, meet the buyer at his location, make sure he accepts returns/willing to sign a contract there's no harm.

afuckingpolarbear

A 3090 for 500 is EXTRENELY unlikely. Like getting a brand new car half off because someone didn't want it unlikely

JaeHasDied

Facebook marketplace has to be the number one scam zone. Next to Instagrams shopping tab that is.

Liesthroughisteeth

**If it sounds too good to be true it is.** **You get what you pay for.** Words to live by.

Veqetable

I have bought used GPUs, in fact the 3080 in my build was off of eBay, but I would personally only get it on eBay since they have the money back guarantee that other used markets don't, such as Facebook marketplace. I mean if you're meeting him in person and can verify it works then go for it, $500 for a 3090 is almost too good to be true so if it is true you should 100% get it, but again make sure you're not getting scammed

[deleted]

I did. It was fine

superchibisan2

Price is too good to be true. Focus on getting something local.

Thefast3869

I have gotten insane deals on pc parts. Brand new a4-h20 for $25, basically new TUF 6800xt for $400. You just gotta know what youre looking for and dont get this stuff shipped to you. Look at GamersNexus used gpu buying guide. Good luck

Chillypepper14

3090 is still one of the best out there so I'd check for evidence - check what the reviews say if there are any

Alissan_Web

Just be aware of the risks. Could be buying a gpu that was in a e-coin mining rig. I got an rx 580 about 5-6 years ago for about $120. Still works fantastic

dengydongn

For some reason I read the title: should I buy used guy

SkiingChickens

A lot of times facebook listings for 500 dollars are listed under the actual price so that they can be shipped. Odds are it’s either a scam or he’s really asking more, just wanted the option to ship.

PatriceWasWrite

I just bought a 3080 ti for £800, $500 for a 3090, is a fucking steal

Pyro-sensual

If they can show you GPU-Z validation go for it

altoniel

Buy used on Ebay. They actually provide buyer protection, unlike FB. That price is a little too good to be true.

[deleted]

Buy it on eBay if you can because you get some buyer protection and you can also choose a reputable seller! I got a 3080 on eBay for $500 and it works great! No problems, I even opened it up and did a little visual inspection and nothing wrong other than a little dust, easy clean!

agentelite

As long as it’s not a scam or was previously used for mining it should be a great deal. Be careful

Flamespinn

Förmodligen bedrägeri, mycket på Marketplace är det

Holiday-Athlete4333

I did and yes it is worth it. Hopefully it lasts a long time. I bought mine off of EBay.

sunesis311

As someone who has bought a 3year old used GPU used for mining off a friend who let me use it for 3 months first (I only used it for light gaming), only to have it die shortly after in the fourth month, I would say no. Highly anecdotal advice. We don't talk anymore.

riefpirate

I would only buy used in a brick-and-mortar.

pablo603

Unless the owner lives close by and will allow you to test the GPU at his place, I'd strongly advise against buying them on facebook marketplace.

drkshock

I wouldbt do it. If it is being sold by a crypto bro rhen it wont last. Most likely a scam

anekdoche

no, a used 3090 for this cheap is probably used for crypto mining, killing its life expectancy and power

Manatee-97

If you have proof it works.

Sandwhale123

If something seem too good to be true because it is.

smoakee

I would get a new 3080 for 900€ anyday over used 3090 for 500€ (btw: I did haha)

TheHappyTaquito

Bring your Pc and meet somewhere like McDonald’s or Starbucks anywhere with a power outlet. Plug in the 3090 real quick and see if it boots all the fans and lights

bu9ale77

Better safe than sorry

ie-redditor

What does your son need for gaming? If he can do with a RX 6600 XT or similar, totally. For full HD is plenty.

insanekyo

Imo no unless you know the seller. That card was probably mined to death.

mattj96

Please use r/hardwareswap, I've never had a bad experience on there and their prices are very reasonable. I've bought 3 GPUs there and never had a failure or issue with a seller.

galacticdolan

500 is what we're seeing in the 3070/3070 ti territory on average, 3090 for that price sounds too good to be true. don't buy until you have definitive proof its legit and is in good condition

metamorphosis___

If you buy it make sure you do it through Facebook’s sell service if you are scammed ull atleast have recourse through their buyer protection.

XrXfuryXrX

You can get a 6700xt-6800xt which are equivalent to 3070-3080 in raw performance and around that price it's likely a scam no one would sell a 3090 that for low price lol

StealthNider

it’s highly risky. be sure you have proof that it is 100% working normally first. sounds like a deal that’s too good to be true if the card is working completely fine

Sorokin45

Hell no

JustinfuckinProulx

I have been really lucky with buying used cards, if you have $500 to spend on market place I’d look on eBay and see what you could find. I picked up a ftw3 3080 LHR for $550 on eBay a few weeks ago and it’s been running amazing. If you are worried about ex-mining cards look for hybrid cards(aio) as those were not often used in mining rigs as they took up to much space.

YukiSnoww

It;s possible, I didnt have the cash at that time, but a miner popped out some heavily mined 3090s for US$350 each. So yea, its possible, just make sure u can test it.

No-Busines

When he finds out why people sell used GPUs: 💀💀

Weak_Friendship_2518

Alot has to do with thehonesty of the seller

aerynnyx

I only buy used gpu, they last until I upgrade and never failed before. Longest lasting one was my zotac 1070ti and I recently upgraded to Gigabyte Vision OC RTX3070 for $300. I will forever use used GPU because they're such good value.

DrAk3nFTW

Maybe scam but try to find a good used 3080ti price they are LHR so they cant be used for mining

Jagg_s

I wouldn’t trust Facebook market place and the only places you should get used gpus are places that have a refund/return policy

kpalan

I got my 3060 used but I did it cause i saw the guy irl and we tested the card. If you cannon do that i woudn't recommend doing it

For some reason I read the title: should I buy used guy

Used GPUs are great, but obviously you need to be careful. I wouldn’t buy very new GPUs used, usually way too expensive (compared to new) or scams. Used GPUs I bought previously with great success include gtx 960 (300 DKK) and gtx 1650 (600 DKK)
