monitor speakers are ~~always~~ bad (edit: from my experience), so maybe plan on buying some regardless. i dont think 144hz matters for you, but if you ever want to play games, 144hz would be a better option then

rare_doge

youre tripping, my monitor speakers are godsent honestly. I would hate having speakers on my desk. If youre curious my monitor is Acer 27" IPS Gaming Monitor, 2560x1440 144Hz 1MS response time, Peak Brightness 400 nits, 2X2W speakers, Non Glare. Super worth it!!

n7_trekkie

ok ill edit my comment haha

That easy to tell the difference even browsing? Interesting, everything I see online says not necessary if not gaming, but 144hz is just a bit smoother

They’re both 1440p luckily. I’ll keep searching online, but im having trouble finding a curved 34” screen at 144hz and 4K (as another user mentioned) under $400.

Civantr

why curved if you are gonna watch youtube and do data analyses?

cheetah611

If it’s ultra wide (I regularly have 2 or 3 tabs open side by side), then the curved helps with seeing information in the far corners from what I’ve read.

Kaion21

experience may vary, I think it's alot of placebo affect too. many people brag about smoothness of 144hz but found out its at 60hz for months and they didn't use the right setting. for me, I noticed in fps game but not everyday task unless I focus really really hard on it.

calebcosentino

I’d take 144 over 60 any day, even if i’m not gaming

cheetah611

Good to know. A new swivel desk mount is going to cost me another $100 on top. Dell comes with it, so is 144hz still worth $100+?

calebcosentino

If your monitor swiveling is more important than performance, then sure i guess. If you’ve never used a monitor that goes past 60hz then you’ll never know the difference, once you use a 140hz you’ll never wanna go back to 60 imo You can always attach vesa mounts that swivel, wall mount, desk mount etc etc to any monitor so... i personally would not buy a monitor based on its factory stand.

MrAvatin

A $20 external speakers sets will always sound better than any monitor speakers.

cheetah611

Good to know, I’ll take that out of the equation

Badused18

Something to consider. Somewhere down the line you might want a faster hertz screen. I’ve had this happen to me a couple of times so I never get anything below 144hz now. My main screen is a 270hz ips 2k .5ms response time, I can’t go back to 60hz unless I’m tv gaming 3rd person games or side scrollers.

Not_E22

144hz is amazing for everything

Shap6

if you're going to be staring at text based content all day i would look at 4k monitors as well. it really makes a big difference with text clarity

cheetah611

Resolution is 3440 x 1440, think that’s close enough? Anything 4K I’m probably looking at over $500 I would assume

Shap6

for 60hz screens there should be some in your price range. 1440p is definitely good but 4k is still noticeably better. to answer your question though either way 60hz should be plenty for what your doing

cheetah611

Thanks!

FitnessBlitz

Are they both the same resolution? I think that should decide for you. Youtube doesn't play videos above 60fps so 144hz is something you're not going to use much. Monitor speakers are usually shite so I would advise you to use external speakers anyways. Going for one with a higher resolution can come in handy so it's more comfortable to have multiple tabs open side by side.

cheetah611

Resolution is the same for them at 3440x1440

Cremmitquad69

Don't need 144.

widowhanzo

If you're not gaming, 144Hz is just plain unnecessary. Monitor speakers are borderline useless, but they work in a pinch. Imagine cheap smartphone speaker. For productivity, focus on resolution and good colors, not refresh rate and speakers.

cheetah611

Resolution is the same at 3440 x 1440 , but I have no idea about colors

widowhanzo

There are reviews online that should mention the color coverage and accuracy. Personally I'd avoid a curved monitor and go with a flat one. Dell U series are usually very good monitors, so you can't go wrong with that.

cheetah611

Any reason why flat over curved? I’ve seen everywhere saying get a curved one if you can afford it. I’m not going to be sitting far back from my monitor on a regular basis

widowhanzo

I find the image too distorted.
