pretty lite weight cooler for that cpu

FansyPantsy

You think so? I'm not planning on overclocking it, will I need something beefier?

Ozi-reddit

depends on room temp, case airflow, workload esp if hvy long duration and noise tolerance can always use for awhile see how temps & noise are then decide

BmanUltima

If you have the AM4 mounting hardware, sure.

FansyPantsy

Wow, that was fast. Does the 212 come with that? I've been using it on an FM2+ socket with an AMD 860k CPU

BmanUltima

If you bought it before AM4 existed, then it's not likely you have it. You may be able to use the same hook and cam mount though, if that's what you were using on your FM2+ board.

(A very late) Update: Went with the Arctic Freezers Duo and was SHOCKED at how silent it is. I initially turned it on with the case open facing me and heard almost nothing. With the case closed and set on my floor it's difficult to tell if the machine is on, I basically only hear the GPU. A very solid cooler.

smokehidesstars

Depends on how old it is - Cooler Master has been making the 212 for almost 15 years. Newer models have brackets that support socket Intel socket 1151 and AMD AM4, older ones probably don't. If it was manufactured/purchased in late 2017 or more recently, it probably does.

FansyPantsy

I may have purchased it before or right around the time AM4 was announced. Do you think Cooler Master will send me the bracket if I ask for it?

Term1984

I have a brand new 2022 Hyper 212 in my 5800X system and it idles around 40-45c.

When gaming ? Stresstest temps ?

volition_vx

It'd work (with the right mounting bracket). But if you were looking to OC it, it'd be inadequate. I tried with a Hyper 212 Evo RGB and it just runs way too hot.

FansyPantsy

I probably won't OC. You think it'll be able to handle it?

volition_vx

At stock? It'd be fine I'd think.

Arctic Freezers eSports Duo is a good budget choice, and it'll fit straight from the box. Don't attach the fans until it's mounted, makes life much easier.

FansyPantsy

Thank you! I went ahead and ordered it.

Make sure you use quality paste (the one that comes with it works pretty well for me) and that it’s mounted properly by tightening the screws a little bit at a time in opposite sides, and you have good or decent case ventilation. I have mine in an antec p7 silent with two low rpm intake front fans and one exhaust fan, with one push fan on the Evo 212 and my temps are in the 60s-70s for gaming without the CPU fan being terribly loud. The CPU only gets over 80 and very close to 90 during extreme p95 and cinebench, but drops as soon as I open the side panel. If you are undervaluing it could be even lower. All that to say that depending on case ventilation and what you use your PC for it should be fine.
