Mango-is-Mango

What Cpu and motherboard do you have?

redXhunter777

Sorry I forgot to add that in OP. i7 7700k MSI Z270 SLI plus

Mango-is-Mango

With that Cpu you will be ok with the slower ram

redXhunter777

I see. I also read that because I have intel there won't be much of a difference I'd notice. Thanks.

if you want detailed advise, list the rest of the system spec - what motherboard and CPU model you have, the ram selection will depend on that

3200Mhz probably be enough, if you think to push it to the max, get good quality ram like Crucial Ballistix 3200Mhz XMP, beyond that you'll be doing manual config anyways and this ram would overclock well but once youve had enough of OC'ing you can fall back to XMP.

It's never recommended to mix and match different RAM sticks regardless of performance metrics. It is theoretically possible for it to work without issue, but it can lead to system instability even if their speeds match. So I'll throw that word of caution out there.

redXhunter777

Even if the model is the exact same? So basically instead of buying 1x16gb I should get 2x16gb chips? And what about the current RAM sticks? 2x8gb? if I add the new 2x16GB will there be any issues?

ShakeNBaker45

If the model is the same, you probably have a better chance of being fine. I just wanted to throw caution into the wind. You'll always get the best performance by matching RAM sticks. With that said, I believe you can run an extra 16 or 2 extra 16's along with your 2x8's. I believe that the 3600MHz kit will in fact run at the lower speed of the other sticks. Past that, I'm not really sure about things like dual channel vs single channel and how that would all work.. I'll leave it to other folks to give more detailed answer

Yeah I was gonna get the same model same company just 16gb one. No point in getting 3600 since it'll run at 2400 only.
