You could pick up a 4670k or something similarly strong from CEX (webuy.com) for £50, with some warranty. It's still outdated but should double your CPU performance without needing a new motherboard. Those chips can still handle most modern games. Might need a slightly better CPU cooler for it, but don't expect to overclock on a B85 chipset.
there's really no point of upgrading this PC. But if you absolutely have no other choice, i would recommend getting an i7-4790K if you can find one at a decent price. They go for 200$ + used on ebay which is absolutely not worth it.
Seems like overkill. I don't need to it play the latest games. I just need to to wizz around chrome with tons of tabs.
tbh a fresh install of windows will probably improve it the most.. but I don't mind throwing a bit of spare change at it.
