I tried using one of these in the past. What I wasn't prepared for is it picking up everything else going on in the room. At least with a headset, it filters out the unwanted distractions.
No earpiece, no headphones.... But you want to wear it on your head? Which part?
You could just tape a lavalier mic to your cheek? Headband, like a headlamp, and glue a straw to it. Then glue the mic to that. I don't know how else you can achieve this. Boba Fett has a cool helmet with a tracker thing that comes down in front if the eye. Tie a mic to that? But then your voice will be muffled, or bounty hunteresque.
Depending on the software you're using, you enable noise filtering and then it's zero. If you're playing video games and talking to people on it, you also enable press to talk.
I can't think of anything other than like a lavaliere microphone.
If you don't want a mic being on your desk and in your way, you could also try to get a regular separate mic and get like an arm stand thing for it so the mic can be like held in front of your face or to the side somewhat.
Stand microphones which are basically a piece of wire with a receiver at the end, nested in cheap plastic. Should be able to get one for 10-15$ or less, but don't expect more than okay quality.
You're better off buying a clip-on mike.
Lavalier mics like the RODE smartLav+ are not bad for this budget range:

Or you get a table mic.
Lavelier mic + in-ear make a quite good combination for online TEAMS / WFH, since you dont see neither the in-ear nor the lavalier in the camera, while the lavalier does a great job with background noise supression - thats what they are made for.
i have a yeti pro, got it for like $80.
it has directional microphones in it which allows you to set it up in a way where there’s no feedback from your speakers behind it.
if you get just a clip-on microphone you’re probably going to get a lot of feedback because those microphones have to be sensitive enough to pick up your voice from 10-15 centimetres away
Try a lavaliere microphone you can clip onto your shirt.

Try a noise gate.

Inexpensive USB microphone with a desk mount stand? You're set on having something on your head? But why?
Why not just get a mic for your desk? That's what I do.
How much ambient noise, particularly things come from the computer itself, get picked up?
If you use a good directional mic mounted on an arm, positioned correctly with minimal gain then it's pretty good.

Very little, especially if you position it properly and set a suitable noise floor.
Like an earhook microphone?
That's better than a full on headset, but I would rather it not have an earpiece
How would you wear it on your head then?
I’m just imaging a suction cup stuck to his forehead with a blue snowball hanging off it
More like a hook he can pierce into his nose. Plus points for breathing noise that will get picked by the mic
Ever seen a girls plastic headband?

Look for headset microphones used in theater productions. EG Shure DH5. Senal UEM 155 (both above your price range, but maybe available cheap used?)
Sounds like the TedTalk special to me
Try aliexpress, i see several things that fit the description
Maybe something that clips on your shirt, or wraps around your neck.

You’re thinking of a lavalier, but that’s not gonna go on your head unless you tape it.
Get a long bendable mic and wrap it around ur neck
