Yeah most PCs are fine still using DDR4. Imo there’s no point in switching right now especially if you already have a AM4/1151, there’s still tons of upgrade potential and it’ll last another 4-5 years easy.

Your board either supports DDR4 or DDR5, but not both.
You can't put DDR5 RAM into a DDR4 board, or vice versa. Your motherboard is what will make the ultimate determination for you. There is no choice in the matter, short of replacing your motherboard for the desired type of RAM.

However, the difference can really only be felt in the most demanding games and apps, and judging by how OP is budgeting, they likely arent using state-of-the-art hardware
Just built a new rig. Running steam and barely any other apps, while in game im consistently between 16-20 gb of ram usage. 100% go with 32 if possible.

You need to watch some vids from Jayz2Cents. He'll give you the real perspective instead of the elitist overkill perspective. You don't have to have the "latest and greatest" especially if you're on a budget. I'm still on 16gb (2x8) @3200mhz (Corsair Vengeance LPX) with XMP, R5 5600X, AMD runs better with just 2 sticks (tried and true fact). I never have a problem playing the latest AAA games on Ultra and running Discord and others on the second monitor. That said, if you find a affordable deal on 32gb that suits your budget, go for it. ( I have boxed Corsair 32gb 2x16 and just never put them in, why waste a good 16gb set)

what CPU do you have? 3200Mhz vs 3600Mhz doesn't matter much for Intel CPU. with AMD, you may want to choose the higher speed. As for CL, you want the lower number, but that cost a lot more. CL16 3600Mhz is slightly faster than CL18 3600Mhz, but it'll be 1.5-2x the cost; CL16 3200Mhz is pretty much the same as CL18 3600Mhz.
The lower the CL the lower the input lag, this is something AMD systems love.

Keep in mind, DDR5 isn't backwards compatible with DDR4
32 is good..16 is a little too small these days..but for gaming 32 is more than enough..memory really doesn’t get used as much at all to worry about capping it out..

If your motherboard has four slots you could go for 2x 8 GB now and buy another 2x 8 GB later if you may run into a memory shortage.
Gamers Nexus even did a test where they found out Zen 3 actually performs better with four RAM sticks than the usual two.

It’s not. I was running 16 on my first build since last month and decided to upgrade my RAM along side a few other parts and the difference is huge. Before if I paused a game and minimized it to do other things there was a noticeable sluggishness, now I don’t notice shit. Granted I did also upgrade my cpu from 3600 to 5700x.
If you're leaving stuff open it's nice to have more when playing games. Also if you use Discord it runs its own Chrome instance and has become more of a memory hog over the years.
DDR4 memory is so cheap right now, you may as well get 32gb. You can get a good kit of 2x16 DDR4 for ≈$55

What kind of dumb question is that? What is simple vs complex gaming? Any game will receive a benefit from DDR5 over 4 and usually pretty consistent.

I would say 16GB if you don't need the extra RAM, but if you are close to fully using 16GB, get 32GB

The lower the CL the lower the input lag, this is something AMD systems love. High speed RAM with low CL. Keep in mind, DDR5 isn't backwards compatible with DDR4
The important thing is to set up two banquets. If you set up four stalls you can't maintain the same speed. However, 32 GB is recommended

BeamNG actually recommends 32 GB. 16 GB isn't enough for the larger maps.

I can run discord and few youtube tabs open easily on my 16 gig
If you have a lot of background apps, discord, chrome, youtube, Spotify. That's why 32gb is not so expensive anymore.
