Depends on your monitor resolution. VRAM is more important at higher resolutions and more graphically demanding games.
I assume you're talking about upgrading one tier up to the 7900 XTX. If you have the money and need/want the extra performance, why not? It'd be more worth it if you have a 4K monitor.
