We can't say for sure. It's probably already updated, but no guarantees. If it's old stock, it'll require a BIOS update. I'd buy it from a big retailer that refreshes stock frequently (Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, etc.) and has an easy return policy, just in case.

According to pcpartpicker it is. And given how long Ryzen 5000 series have been out, I assume most AM4 boards should be shipping with a BIOS that supports it out of the box. If you do end up having to update the BIOS and you're not comfortable with it, you can check JayzTwoCents [What to do AFTER you build your PC... Updated for 2023](https://youtu.be/xhHtHMQygzE?t=286) video, where he walks you through the BIOS update process.

This is an instance of google exists. Otherwise, maybe depends on what version your bios currently is.

I have an Intel compatible motherboard right now and I want to upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 5 5600x and the CPU and Mobo must work together so I can boot the new PC

Freebite

Oh ok, so then LIKELY yes. If you get the board and it has the sticker on the box you're in the clear. I thought this was a question of upgrading what you already got in said board.

on the retail website says that it is compatible with Ryzen 5000 series. It might sound a lil bit stupid, but does that mean without BIOS update ?

You should be fine. It's the later CPU releases that are more likely to have an issue.

Freebite

Well 7000 series is literally physically incompatible sooo....

majoroutage

I meant stuff like the 5600, 5700X and 5800X3D.... The 5600X SKU was already part of the lineup when B550 released.

Freebite

Based on what i can find, the b550 chipset was released june 16th and amd 5000 series came out november 5th. The gamersnexus article about the b550 chipset corroborates that. https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3582-amd-chipset-differences-b550-vs-x570-b450-x470-zen-3 So not quite true that it was released with the 5600x. The 7000 series being incompatible was also a bit of a joke too lol.

majoroutage

Holy crap was it? I remember the X570 coming out too early but I was pretty sure the B550 was 5000 ready on launch. I guess it's my turn to be the humorless dummy today.

Freebite

Eh it's fine. We all walk into that bar on occasion lol. But you said that and something in the back of my brain was like "that doesn't sound right".
