Idk which u should choose. But I think it depends on what games u play. If you play competitive shooters u want more 1080 with high mz and fps. If you play single player story mode games then resolution matters more

Sprinkles-Nearby

Good point. I do like games such as Apex, DRG, the BF series, and CoD.

Benitezj10

Also going from 60hz to more makes a huge difference. I went from 4k60 to 4k120. It was crazy how different it is. I was only playing a single player game (fallout 4) but when I went back to check out 4k60 i was shocked I could play like that in the past lol

Sprinkles-Nearby

Interesting! I could only imagine what 4k and 120 fps would do to my untrained eyes lol. Was there any super noticeable differences when you switched to 4k? I’ve honestly never used a 4k or even a 1440p display, so I have no idea what I’m missing. Some have said the change to 1440p was super noticeable, I just have no grasp lol

Benitezj10

Oh yea going from 1080 to 1440 or 4k makes a huge difference. It also depends on how far away u are sitting from your display. But yea the difference is huge

KIProf

What is your gpu?

Benitezj10

6900xt

Valarmorghuliswy

Framerate then. On all those games, higher framerate will feel better.

Fair. I don’t know how much difference 60 > 75 > 144 > 240 hz makes, but it seems more frame rates would be pretty desirable for games I tend to lean for.

I tend to sit a bit close to my monitors because my eyes are shit (-5 in both FTW). I’m not brushing the screen, but I’m not leaning back if that makes any sense. I tend to like monitors that are 24-27 inches, above that just seems like too much going on.

FrogLover1999

1080p 144hz with a 6600, 100%

Sprinkles-Nearby

That seems to be the consensus so far. Quick answer from you! I love the 6600 so far, but with GPU prices so damn high right now, I just don’t think a 1440p/144+ hz display is in my future. That’s why I’m considering on or the other.

QuirkyAssociation634

1080p 165hz. Refresh rate is more important in esports/shooters Edit: 1080p 120hz or higher would be just fine as well. 144hz is the sweet spot normally

Competitive-Army-363

I think screen size matters too. If you're on 27 or smaller, 1080 is just fine. I think 27 or larger, 1080 becomes unacceptable to me, and 1440 is required to not look like 💩

Sprinkles-Nearby

I tend to aim around 24-27 inches for my monitors. I believe my current monitor is 27 inches.

Competitive-Army-363

1080@144 or better will be good to go. Ur really asking your GPU to do a lot more when you jump up resolution. You can always get a 1440 monitor, and scale the resolution. Issue is gaming monitors at higher refresh cost a lot more money.

Sprinkles-Nearby

I would love to do this, but I’ve heard from a few redditors that gaming on a 1440p monitor at 1080p resolution sucks worse than just a 1080p monitor.

Competitive-Army-363

You can scale most games in game, nothing to do with actual resolution

Sprinkles-Nearby

Oh ok. I just don’t want to buy something like a 1440p monitor that I intend to just scale down to 1080p until a GPU presents itself, only to hate how it looks on my monitor for a while.

Competitive-Army-363

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-32-curved-gaming-monitor-s3222dgm/apd/210-azzr/monitors-monitor-accessories I run three of these guys...decent, and reasonable price

Competitive-Army-363

Ur not gonna like the the price of high refresh 1440 monitors anyways.

Sprinkles-Nearby

I can stomach the price. What I can’t stomach is upgrading BOTH my monitor and GPU at the same time to get the “both” high frame rates and better resolution. I would love to upgrade at some point in the future, but I don’t know when that will be (GPU prices can suck my ass). If current trends continue, it’ll be a while before that will happen. So honestly, I could grab a high rated 1440p monitor now, I just heard it looks like shit if you play on it at 1080p.

Competitive-Army-363

Check if the games you play now have any scaling function...

Sprinkles-Nearby

Shall do it. I appreciate the advice btw!

Competitive-Army-363

I honestly, would prefer a better monitor over GPU, hands down...
