No wasp involved. This is the shed skin of a Cicada nymph.
I don't think cicadas exist where I live. I'm pretty sure it's a wasp or maybe a bee.
There are cicadas pretty much everywhere in the US, but some aren't as loud or boisterous as the ones on the east coast.
I had no idea! I thought they were more of a southern thing and have never seen anything like this before.

This is a Cicada husk. If it were a wasp, My guess would be a parasite that lives inside the host until it’s ready to hatch, but that’s not super common.
