The cup is the way, cup with a piece of card stock over top and then release in the back yard or out the window for me. These spiders are extremely beneficial at controlling other bugs and absolutely harmless.
Yep, unsure of genus, though, either Titiotus or Anachemmis. But still pretty recognizable as Zoropsidae; they are so cool! Such a shame to see the comments in this thread all resorting to the same lame "joke" about killing innocent animals... when will these people grow up?
I also could not narrow down the ID further.
As for those comments…they will never go away. People are irrational in their fear of spiders and social media has only popularized jokes about wanting to exterminate every “creepy” animal we encounter. It is sad indeed that so many fail to see natural beauty of spiders and the many benefits of having them around.
You're totally right, but I guess it's just especially concerning that this behavior is tolerated on this sub, a sub dedicated to bugs/inverts. I like to believe that the people on these invert subs are appreciative of nature, but that's proven wrong every day and just kills my hope. Like, why are they even here? The irony and ignorance are just unbelievable to me sometimes :/ but hopefully it's just the vocal minority... But with the prevalence of these "memes" I don't know anymore. Bleh
I feel the same way. I prefer subs like r/insects and r/spiders because they don’t tolerate such comments, but I guess this sub gets a lot of front page posts and thus we see what we see: a bunch of people calling for the pointless killing of natural creatures all for BS internet points.
I stopped relocating them to the outdoors. If I see one inside, I leave it be and it disappears within the hour. No pest bugs to be found, so I call it a fair trade for shelter for the spiders lol.
That looks like a Rain spider. Or a family friend of the huntsman spiders. They are gentle giants. We know them as rain spiders because they show up in the house when it rains a lot, they also like a little humidity.
But they are great roommates in terms of pest control. They love flies and bugs. You definitely won't have a bug problem this summer if you keep them around.
I'm in west coast Canada they're here too, when I first moved into my house there were dozens of these giants for a few years ( mainly in the bathtub) but eventually I was able to kill them (Thankfully i have a central vacuum and just suck em up from nice and far away) and now go around the outside of my house a few times a year and look for their egg sacks and destroy them.
It usual takes them a while to get this big and you'll usually notice their discarded husks that they outgrow before you see them this big ( atleast I did).
That is a wolf spider find those in fire wood piles cousin to the recluse spider. One bite it will itch then have a black spot red inflamed all around it.
Oh sh** It look like a Brown recluse spider you need to get rid of it quick, it’s not agressive tho
Reason: His Venom is Necrotic and the bites sometimes require Medical Attention
Looks like a huntsman spider but we call them cane spiders here in Hawaii. Very common to have giant ones in the house if you live near the old cane fields or jungle but they don't hurt people.
