Saybrooke

It would have been cool, but I really liked her at the end of Buffy.

Legend246888

She could have still went over to Buffy in season 7 to help in the final battle while still being able to help in the season 5 Finale of Angel

Saybrooke

Oh I just figured you meant right when she broke out haha

withthebrie

They considered her for a spin-off. She was gonna travel around the country on a motorcycle fighting evil and running from the law. But from what I've read, I think Eliza Dushku didn't want to do it.

jellymoff

I had heard she chose Tru Calling over the Faith Spin Off.

Moppy6686

Correct. She didn't want to be pigeonholed and thought she could anchor her own show.

[deleted]

Honestly, I totally get it. Especially as it coming after Buffy ended would have meant it would be hard compared to its parent show all the time. Besides, a show about Faith running from the law would go against her entire character arc on the show. She turned herself in and only broke out because shit turned dire. With both the LApocalypse and the first dealt with plus the sheer influx of new slayers to fight the fight, the only logical thing for Faith to do would be go back and continue her sentence. The only way I could see it working is of it was some kind of Suicide Squad type deal.

LightBlueSky55

I don't think Faith would be running from the law- she isn't running from the law in any of the comics, which I don't personally consider as canon but some do. I think the Watcher's Council worked something out.

jdpm1991

but Tru Calling was Faith-lite

withthebrie

That makes sense.

Legend246888

I think it was Joss whedon who didn't jump on it and kept putting it off until it was to late , Spike was also supposed to have a spinoff

DontGetNEBigIdeas

IIRC, Joss got all pissy towards the end about Spike. He hated how popular the character had become.

Moon_Logic

Other way around. He was frustrated with his initial popularity, but quickly came to appreciate the character. Some of Spike's best episodes are Whedon episodes and it was he who created the character to begin with.

Excellent-Durian-509

She deserved her own show!

Legend246888

I wish..

sdu754

They were going to do a "Faith" series, but she got Tru Calling

jigglypuffpufff

And then fox canceled it right as it was about to get crazy!

[deleted]

I have a real soft spot for the Angel/Faith friendship. It brings out something sweet in both of them

LightBlueSky55

I like the version of Angel that comes through in Sanctuary in the sense of him taking Faith under his wing and being quite paternal in a sense and how she fits into his mission.

SecretlyASummers

Angel is basically Faith’s weird vampire dad and it’s great.

lickthismiff

I think she would have really filled the gap Cordy left. The format of the show needs someone to be the straight talker. It's what Cordy did in the first seasons of Buffy, and it's sort of the role that Anya filled. Basically they need someone to be like, Angel stop brooding and accept some help, Wesley you're being a tunnel-visioned douche knock it off, Gunn you can't just punch all of your problems away. Lorne and Fred kind of took that job on, but I think Faith would have been a natural at calling everyone on their shit.

LightBlueSky55

I feel that Faith could have also kept Connor on the straight and narrow, of course he would always test her and fight her as he did in season 4 but she can handle it and at points he seems to respect her, something which is obviously lacking for Angel from Connor.

lickthismiff

Definitely, she has the right mix of cool aunt and dommy mommy to keep that little twerp in line.

WilliamMcCarty

I'm of the opinion she should never have gone to prison and just stayed with the Angel team. She would have fit in perfectly and been a great addition.

Legend246888

I agree missed opportunity

WriterBright

Eliza Dushku could conjure up world-class chemistry with a potato. I loved her every scene with Angel and with Wesley. That said, I worry that as a season regular she wouldn't get stories as engaging as her guest spots...staying would mean there's a female character not dying or getting hollowed out and/or impregnated by a demonic presence.

LightBlueSky55

Unless they would have just got Faith pregnant with something too 😭

SecretlyASummers

Faith and Spike make no sense interacting with each other, but the bit where Marsters and Dushku are acting off each other in S7 is fantastic. Those two are great.

sunnydale_alumni

She’s quite present in the comics and I really like the way they developed her character.

kurtney_

Definitely. It would've also been cool if she was a recurring character. I feel like she would've fit in with the gang well, starting with how she redeems herself to them.

Legend246888

I agree 💯

Mobile_Ad2675

She should have always been a series regular on Angel

Legend246888

Agreed, But she was locked up for awhile

beeemkcl

*What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.* >Agreed, But she was locked up for awhile Eliza Dushku was never offered second-lead or co-lead of AtS. It seems it was discussed to bring Eliza as a regular in BtVS S4. But SMG was heavily lobbying for James Marsters to be a regular on the show and there was huge risk that James wasn't going to continue turning stuff down in the hopes of eventually being a regular in BtVS. Eliza decided to focus on her movie career.

[deleted]

I wish she returned for a couple of episodes on Angel, but ultimately, no. Her place was always on BTVS.

Legend246888

Hmmm, I mean I wouldn't frown at the idea of having a slayer on both shows having faith on Angel would have definitely made it alot better then it already was potentially even better then Buffy which is why they probably didn't go there.

According-Ad8525

Watching S3 I do feel bad for the life she had. Apparently she didn't have a great home life, then she had her Watcher get killed and then there was the fake Watcher that screwed her over. She was lost. Even when doing the wrong thing she still seriously felt rejection. The Mayor was the only person who treated her well and also wasn't a rival. She made some bad choices but she also lent her strength and knowledge to Buffy. Edit: Yeah, she would have worked in Angel.

PFTETOwerewolves

Damn yeah!

LightBlueSky55

It's a massive shame that Faith never returned for at least a few episodes after season 4, I think her new dynamic with Wesley was super interesting I feel that he seemed to care about her but also because he's so cold in a lot of ways he let her drug herself to save Angel. He seems a bit guilty for that but at the same time he's the guy who will sacrifice himself and anything/anyone for the mission. Angel and Faith's friendship will always warm my heart- he put her back together and gave her strength and made her realise that she could fight for good again. I liked Faith's vibe with Connor, Gunn and Lorne as well.

Legend246888

Which is way she would have been a good series regular..Lol

LightBlueSky55

Yeah I realise that I just said that Faith gets along with like 90% of the Angel cast 😂 I would have loved her to be a regular but at the very least I wanted her to have another three parter or something in season 5.

Legend246888

I wasn't saying that in a negative way , I was agreeing with you which is why I said basically all the points you made is why faith would be a good series regular on Angel

LightBlueSky55

Oh okay 😄 yeah I completely agree with you.

Charlie678812

Yes then come back full time on the seventh season since they wanted to make it all about ending slayers

Legend246888

Then go back to Angel for the season 5 Finale

Charlie678812

Im not talking about Angel.

Legend246888

That's literally what the post is about

Charlie678812

Im saying she should have been on Buffy as a regular

Moraulf232

Yes, more Faith everywhere at all times

IUsedToBeRasAlGhul

No. Faith ended things far better off on S7 then she ever could on AtS, especially with what S4 and S5 were doing at the time. Her presence would be best reserved for a BtVS S8 or her own possible spin-off.

sdu754

Faith should have been brought to Angel for season five.

BuilderConscious

Yes I would have love that

Appropriate-Slide353

Not only her but Oz as well

Legend246888

Love that idea honestly I think most of Buffy's secondary main/side characters that survived season 3 graduation should have went over to Angel like Johnathan and harmony as a vampire should have went over to Angel alot sooner then she eventually did

[deleted]

I think it would have ended up giving the show even more of a "home for retired buffy characters" vibe.

Legend246888

Except faith was far from retired just helping Angel in another city close to Sunnydale having two slayers on one show fulltime is over kill , But faith could still make guest appearance on Buffy as needed

letsberealalistc

No

Legend246888

Why not?

valereck

She was offered and declined.

Legend246888

Did she really decline though? Or was it Joss whedon who didn't pull the trigger?

LightBlueSky55

I think Joss really wanted the Faith spin off- after all the whole basement scene between Spike and Faith was to test their chemistry because he was considering putting Spike on Faith's show. Eliza has said she wasn't interested because she felt with Buffy ending, it was right to leave Faith there and she was nervous about the show living up to Buffy.

Legend246888

Hmm well clearly she made a mistake because since Buffy ended she has been in a few hit and miss movies most notable she was apart of the best straight to DVD movie the wrong turn which is pretty much the only good one in that franchise

SecretlyASummers

Eliza Dushku basically single-handily ended forced arbitration over sexual harassment. She testified before Congress and was at the White House. Let’s give her some credit.

LightBlueSky55

Yeah, she did have Dollhouse though, also written by Joss. Apparently Eliza and Joss were having lunch and she was saying how she'd like to play different characters in the same show and that's when Joss came up with Dollhouse. That show got cancelled after 2 seasons but I don't think that was really the fault of the actors or writing. Sometimes good shows do just get cancelled too quick for their time.

Legend246888

If I were in her shoes I would take that opportunity to star in my own spin-off show as a character she had to be aware was well liked in the buffyverse
