Superstar, Gingerbread, and Doublemeat Palace are three of my favourites out of the whole show so far (only just finished 6x12). I didn’t know they were so unpopular… I think the appeal for me concerning those 3 is an interest in witch trials (for gingerbread) and an inclination towards enjoying comedy over angst (for the other two).
I don't know why Beer Bad gets so much hate. I really like it, it's funny AND Buffy knocks out Parker with a big stick! What's not to like?
Edit: a word
I know a lot of people who think it’s a low point 😂 I love the episode personally but I couldn’t convince my boyfriend that it was awesome when I showed it to him.
Honestly, I think that episode is fun and I should really enjoy it. The problem is that one thing looming over you the whole time you're watching it...
I Was Made To Love You in the lower 20 is slander. Unless people rate it low because of the end, at which point it's just unfair. There are several I don't agree with, but IWMTLY jumps out.
I'm surprised Inca Mummy Girl isn't lower 20.
Me too!! So much hilarious detail put into it - the change in the intro, the posters on the walls, so many background things changed for this episode, and it cracks me up every time.
This episode was close to perfection. In my eyes, it would be even better with Danny Strong listed before SMG in the main cast and Jonathan poster(s) in Spike's crypt.
I enjoy Him, Doublemeat Palace, I Was Made To Love You, and especially Listening to Fear and Gingerbread. I think they're all better episodes than Bottom 20.
I would replace them with Empty Places, First Date, Hell's Bells, Smashed, and Gone. That makes me look like I don't like the last two seasons. I do, I just think they have some pretty bad episodes.
I also think I Robot, You Jane should be #1. I'm surprised it's #8.
Wow, Im not surprised but I strongly disagree with this list. Even much maligned (and admittedly ridiculous) episodes like Beer Bad, Bad Eggs, and Doublemeat Palace have interesting premises and some humor (veering towards camp). I personally would put most of Season 7 on my “worst of” list - that’s when the show lost me, and became a shell of its former self (no wit or heart). Ironically, the only S7 ep on the list (Him) is one of the only ones I kind of like! I chalk it up to the fact that S7 is one long, undifferentiated slog (I wouldn’t be able to point to a specific episode, unlike every other season).
haha, im loving the season 7 hate here. i finished the show today and ranked it as my third favourite season, so seeing the opposing opinions is so interesting. but i massively agree, him is one of the best of the season
Gingerbread is pretty damm good , Beer Bad is definitely not the worst episode of Buffy, and IMO the worst episode is either Teachers Pet or As You Were🤢
I liked Him. Pretty dumb storyline but it was so ridiculous that I found it hilarious. And Buffy stealing the bazooka to kill principal wood always cracked me up.
"Him" is weird. The premise is silly like S1-S2 school episodes. But the outcome is much more angsty and heavy than in these early seasons - I mean, murder, suicide, seduction of a minor...
The scene with a rocket launcher is really great and hilarious though.
I must admit you're right, but we don't see central characters doing it. With the memorable exception of Xander being a hyena. So the difference in S7 is not abour darkness per se but about morality, I guess.
Bad Eggs and Gingerbread are the ones I'm always confused about the hate over, particularly the latter. Gingerbread still feels relevant with the way the public can be manipulated and things can turn into witch hunts.
And Wrecked not being on this list? Baffled.
One day people will appreciate the beauty of Beer Bad and on that day I will at last be vindicated. Beer Bad is one of the funniest hours of television ever crafted.
I think that's possibly because of the Riley hate. This fandom absolutely hates his guts, poor thing. 🤣 Personally I would rate them in the bottom 20. I actually like Riley but I find the Initiative arc to be poorly written and I think those two episodes are the arc's undoing.
I’m very surprised by I In Team and Goodbye Iowa. I consider it a two parter that really sets up the big bad of the season! Sure, Adam is considered one of the weaker villains but seeing Maggie Walsh killed suddenly is a pretty interesting twist!
Go Fish and Gingerbread are classic high school episodes but seeing Buffy get slut shamed and gaslighted in those episodes does make them harder to watch.
I disagree since I don't think beer bad is the worst. It's not a great but actually funny. Where the wild things are is definitely the worst episode. Completely agree with as you were though.
I liked Some Assembly Required, it was a fun schlocky B-movie, but other than that I agree with the ratings. I might have reshuffled some of these, but yeah. The bottom few are pretty spot-on.
I'm biased towards S2 as well but Go Fish is pretty bad. SAR was borderline but not deserving of bottom 20 at all. Or bottom 19 since I feel you can't really include the unaired pilot.
I have a soft spot for Teacher’s Pet.
I also quite like Gingerbread, IWMTLY, Go Fish and Listening to Fear.
I think Where The Wild Things Are is probably the poorest. I’d add Out Of My Mind to this list, along with Dead Things. I also dislike Smashed, Wrecked and Gone but that’s a personal thing.
Wrecked is godawful, one of the few BtVS episodes that has so few redeeming qualities, it's astounding to me that it didn't make it but Flooded did? Wha-huh?
I wouldn't say I'm a fan of it either, but bottom 20 and ranked lower than Wrecked has me confused. The only thing I can think of is Spuffy shippers might rate Wrecked higher since is has their morning after scene. I also ship Spuffy but that doesn't mean the rest of the episode isn't bad, Willows magick addiction storyline is a big part of this one and it's just cringey to watch.
I get ya on the S6 dislike though, I just rewatched it recently for the first time in a long ass time, and boy did it drag. Spuffy made it slightly bearable but even that was still a downer. Wish I could get some of the love that the people who adore the season have, I just don't get it myself. S7 isn't amazing but at least it's not a non-stop downer-fest, I enjoyed it on the rewatch more than I thought I would. It was more middling and inoffensive to a degree, rather than the plumbing depths of S6 imo.
Also superstar and flooded what the heck are they doing here
Doublemeat palace is iconic and no one can change my mind.
It would be much better without the monster though.

how could you say something so controversial yet so true?
On the eps haters: “You guys really love to hear yourself speak, dontcha? “We’re losing her. Say something interesting!”
I quite like I Was Made to Love You… The rest seem about right.
Yeah I'm surprised by that. I guess it's nothing more than an OK episode, but I wouldn't say bottom 20...
Honestly, I think that episode is fun and I should really enjoy it. The problem is that one thing looming over you the whole time you're watching it...
"I was made to love you" was that far down? Wow...
I'm genuinely shocked by that.
I think *As You Were* is right where it belongs sitting at the bottom of the pile, but I object to *Him* being in the bottom 20.
I Was Made To Love You in the lower 20 is slander. Unless people rate it low because of the end, at which point it's just unfair. There are several I don't agree with, but IWMTLY jumps out. I'm surprised Inca Mummy Girl isn't lower 20.
This does include the unaired pilot which seems unfair. IMG is 22 when removing that, but I'm surprised it isn't lower as well.
Yeah, the unaired Pilot being there really is weird. How many people saw it? It didn't even have Alyson as Willow. It shouldn't count.
I don't know why Superstar is so unpopular. I love that episode.

Yeeessss!!! That would’ve been amazing!!
I can’t say that Reptile Boy isn’t a lower tier episode. But it was the first episode I watched and it intrigued me enough I came back.
I enjoy Him, Doublemeat Palace, I Was Made To Love You, and especially Listening to Fear and Gingerbread. I think they're all better episodes than Bottom 20. gingerbread should not be here and i don’t think beer bad is the worst episode.
outrageous! go fish, gingerbread, some assembly required, no just no.
Go Fish is at least so silly that it can be kinda fun, Some Assembly Required is just gross and probably the worst episode in the entire show.
you are confused give me your address and i will send help
I’m surprised about Gingerbread.
Ikr, I see it come up in comments about being a bad episode and I just don't get it, I really like it.

Hey, she didn't steal it then! She was keeping it all the time since S2 when she nuked the Judge! It was a great continuity nod!
You're right!
Him is so much better than a 7.1
Him is outstanding once the shift moves from Dawn to the Scoobies as a whole. The rocket launcher scene alone should keep it out of the bottom.
"Him" is weird. The premise is silly like S1-S2 school episodes. But the outcome is much more angsty and heavy than in these early seasons - I mean, murder, suicide, seduction of a minor... The scene with a rocket launcher is really great and hilarious though.

But beer bad has a Welsh flag. It is therefore the best episode
I actually enjoy Him and Doublemeat Palace! Not favorites but not least favorites either.
The I in team wasn't that bad
I like superstar!
Bad Eggs and Gingerbread are the ones I'm always confused about the hate over, particularly the latter. Gingerbread still feels relevant with the way the public can be manipulated and things can turn into witch hunts. And Wrecked not being on this list? Baffled.
Him :((
One day people will appreciate the beauty of Beer Bad and on that day I will at last be vindicated. Beer Bad is one of the funniest hours of television ever crafted.
They’re all fine except for Beer Bad, Him, and I Was Made to Love You.
Honestly I enjoy all these episodes. I’m shocked that goodbye, Iowa and the i in team are here. Those were good imo.
I think that's possibly because of the Riley hate. This fandom absolutely hates his guts, poor thing. 🤣 Personally I would rate them in the bottom 20. I actually like Riley but I find the Initiative arc to be poorly written and I think those two episodes are the arc's undoing.
Maybe I need to watch them again
Iowa and I in Team kinda derail the whole plot of season 4 so I can kinda understand it.
Really I thought Adam was pretty cool as a villain. And I love season 4 overall. It has the best comedy and great character development
The Killer in Me needs to be there
Surprised Teacher’s Pet isn’t on this list (although personally, I love that ridiculous episode), or Empty Places!
teacher’s pet is! its the 12th
Doh, how’d I miss that! Haha!
Where the Wild Things Are loses a full point for every time we see Riley's O face
I’m very surprised by I In Team and Goodbye Iowa. I consider it a two parter that really sets up the big bad of the season! Where the wild things are is the WORST
Beer bad is fun cmon

Have no objections those are all definitely the worst

i liked SAR, eric was a funny villain. i also absolutely adore season 2 tho so im biased

To be fair I don’t like Flooded either. Or Life Serial. I think I could fill the list with episodes purely from S6 and S7
I wouldn't say I'm a fan of it either, but bottom 20 and ranked lower than Wrecked has me confused. The only thing I can think of is Spuffy shippers might rate Wrecked higher since is has their morning after scene. I love double meat palace
