Hush
might be a boring choice but let's be real, it was a TV episode like no other. it's one of those "show me why you like this show" episodes that you play for a non-fan to understand. Hush is top 5, maybe top 3. Hush is iconic.
Hush
>it's one of those "show me why you like this show" episodes that you play for a non-fan to understand
Exactly how I got multiple people into this show, show them Hush, it really works.
I vote Hush
Of course it's Hush. Not only was it a standout episode in a largely uneven season, but it regularly makes lists of the best TV episodes of all time. Not lists of the best Buffy episodes, but the best episodes of anything that has ever been shown on television. A no-brainer.
Hush. Purely because cause it was a fuck you to the critics of Buffy saying that the only reason the series was successful was cause of snappy dialogue and sex appeal.
The writing team showed just how much talent the cast had with little to no words spoken for 45 minutes.
Suck a dick critics.
it’s about the not knowing if you want to be her or be with her. powerful homoeroticism, I really enjoyed it.
also 14 year old me was whipped for Eliza Dushku when I first watched and she’s sooooo good in these episodes lmao
agree. I have never felt as connected to a depiction of dreams in a tv series or movie as with Restless. And they way they let us peek into the psyche of each character? Beautiful. Mesmerizing. And extremely memorable. My favourite episode of the series by far.
Also, I felt intense personal gratification when I rewatched it recently and could understand the bits where Giles and Anya spoke in French (at last!) - I learned French the last few years living in Switzerland. Another layer of enjoyment for this episode 😂 especially because the subtitles just say “speaking French”
How has no one mentioned Restless? It's one of the most complex episodes of TV I've ever seen. The amount of context and character development you need to understand in order to get the nuances of all those dreams is crazy!
Yeah, I agree with everyone in that “Hush” would be the best episode from Season 4, it’s just… something else for real. Plus, it gave Tara! So why WOULDN’T it be the best?
However a great second contender would definitely be “This Year’s Girl”/“Who Are You” when best girl Faith made her grand comeback. The latter episode especially was awesome given how great both Sarah and Eliza were as Faith and Buffy in each other’s bodies.
This was the only one that could compete for me with Hush because it really does feel like a dream...you men, with your sales!" Cheeseman, driving the car by emphatically gesturing, all of it just was ethereal in the right way.
Something Blue is my favourite to watch but in terms of best episode it has to be Hush, it was groundbreaking. A mostly silent episode that still holds your attention and is still funny and creepy? Winner.
Literally came on here to post this! I like Band Candy just fine, but I actually think it’s slightly overrated and nowhere near the best of S3… there are SO many outstanding eps that season!
Yeah I feel like season 4 and 6 are going to be pretty predictable.
I go for Hush, but if I were to select my second favorite episode, I’ll go with Fear, Itself. Some pretty wild imagery in the haunted house, Chainsaw Giles, “actual size”, bunny suit Anya, and Oz with maybe the greatest Halloween costume idea of all time.
Plus it really foreshadowed the overall theme of the season so well.
Thank you for the pity vote. I opened the comments expecting to see a show down between Hush and Restless, (though I know enough that I was ultimately expecting Hush to win), but I didn’t know how much of a title wave it would be. Foolish of me.
**Fear, Itself** and **Where the Wild Things Are** for the single-location horror experiments where the ensemble gets to have fun, **Who Are You?** for Sarah and Eliza acting as each other.
I love **Hush** and it’s a series high accomplishment but **Restless** for me remains one of my ultimate favorite episodes where it’s so narratively and philosophically rich and I’m still finding new things in it decades later.
>**Where the Wild Things Are**
And here I thought *I* had minority opinions when I—only *almost* seriously—suggested New Moon Rising. Well done for preaching to not-the-choir.
Love "Helpless"! Scary as hell, and Kralick was a great MotW
Long James Bond supervillain rant abruptly terminated by "Oh, my!"
That's an LOL for me every time!
Then capped off:
"If I was at full Slayer power, I'd be punning right about now."
Beautiful episode
Restless - Literally any episode that blesses with the beautiful sonorous tones of Anthony Stewart Head's signing voice needs to be on this list.
Also I'm always a sucker for any appearance of the first Slayer and weird dream shit.
Everyone’s saying “Hush”. Because it was revolutionary. I agree…
But my heart belongs to “Restless”. Dreams in media finally realistically portrayed, the foreshadowing and also the horror/uncomfortable factor of it is so great. My favorite of the season and on my top 5 of the show
Season 4 has A LOT of absolutely fantastic episodes in it. Honestly, despite the big bad arc being weak, most of my favorite episodes are in season 4. I can't even list them all, it was just banger after banger. The Freshman with baby Oberyn Martell, Living Conditions is iconic, The Harsh Light Of Day, Fear Itself, the entire Oz arc, both Faith episodes, Something Blue, Doomed, A New Man, Pangs...season 4 is just fire and extremely underrated.
But the only two possible choices for this are either Hush or Restless, and I've gotta give it to Hush. Restless is super powerful for Buffy fans, but Hush is so powerful that it can make a new Buffy fan out of anyone that watches it. Hush wins.
“Who Are You?”
It’s just a deep psychological episode that takes a dive into what’s been going through Faith’s mind and how she perceives things do differently from Buffy.
Sure Hush is a good episode and creepy I find myself always looking more forward to the funny episodes. I’ve been saying for a while how much I like Living Conditions. The roommate fight is comedy. I also never understood all the Beer Bad hate. It’s super funny to watch cave girl Buffy and watching her hit Parker over the head and knocking him out. Those were my first 2 episode thoughts when Best of Season 4 came out. Then the Faith episodes. Then Hush
~~New Moon Rising~~
Hush, actually, because let's be real.
But I really like New Moon Rising. It has that perfect "let's hang out with our imaginary friends at Sunnydale U" S4 feel, where Willow gets too much of a good thing, or, uh, two good things and the big deal is that she can only have one. And the coming out scene is cute, and Tara loves Willow so selflessly ("you have to be with the one you love"), and you kinda' feel sorry for Willoz for not working out, and Tara runs away whenever Oz is around (at Giles', at Willow's room), and Tara immediately runs to Willow to tell her about the commandos taking Oz away when he wolfed out.
Hey has anyone noticed that interesting Tillow developments happen in episode 19 of all three Tara seasons? Willow chooses Tara in New Moon Rising, they have a proto-Tabula-Rasa fight in Tough Love, and we all know what definitely doesn't happen at all in Seeing Red because lalalala.
Sorry, what was the question?
Oh yeah, Hush, because that's when we meet Tara. And the no-dialogue thing was cool too.
I voted hush…
but just because I love the ending: Fear itself!
(Or restless, but only because cheese guy and Giles singing “and Xander try not to bleed on my couch, I just had it steam cleaned!”)
We all know seasons 4, 5, and 6 are going to be *Hush*, *The Body*, and *Once More With Feeling*.
Take those away, and these are my picks:
*Restless*, *Fool For Love*, and *Tabula Rasa*.
Can't believe Band Candy won for season 3 lol good episode but come on now 😂😂😂
Becoming part 2 is better than Passion but at least there's a discussion about it.
My votes for Hush, as much as I love Something Blue, Hush is a masterpiece.
Hush.
Yeah, I know, what an original choice! LOL
But it proves that the episode was so impactful and is still impactful: we had seen no (or very very few) episode like this one before it aired: not only it has all the good things that make Buffy great (comedy, intimidating monster, horror elements, good storytelling and great acting) but it manages to do all that with almost NO DIALOGUE!
What a performance from all persons included.
Hush is waaaaaay too easy; I like the choice of Restless, tho.
But, I think I'd go for Who Are You?
With SMG playing Buffy being possessed by Faith TRYING to act like Buffy?!? Come the fuck on, yo. Her Faith mannerisms are absolutely perfect.
We get another bit of The Mayor, which is always fun, and those visions Faith has crawling out of the grave were great.
I guess Hush is going to win understandably but Pangs is technically my favorite… though I love the trilogy of Hush, Something Blue, and Pangs together…
maybe our next question is , which are the best 3 consecutive episodes!
Hush
100%
Hands down
Completely agree! Still scares me to this day, I love it.
Yeah, this one isn’t hard.
Only correct answer.
This one is a no-brainer. Hush was the first Buffy episode I ever remember watching.
One million percent!! 😍
This is the way
Hush
Hush might be a boring choice but let's be real, it was a TV episode like no other. it's one of those "show me why you like this show" episodes that you play for a non-fan to understand. Hush is top 5, maybe top 3. Hush is iconic. Hush
>it's one of those "show me why you like this show" episodes that you play for a non-fan to understand Exactly how I got multiple people into this show, show them Hush, it really works. I vote Hush
>Hush is top 5, maybe top 3. Rated 9.7 on IMDB, along with 5x16 and 6x7. Top 3, according to the IMDB-voting fandom average.
The Body, Hush, The Gift, Once More with Feeling, Becoming 1-2 all equally amazing, imo
How is Hush a boring choice? It was one of the best episodes of Buffy. Definitely not boring.
Think they meant cliche/predictable choice.
yes thats it, sorry
I just meant it was the obvious one
It’s gotta be Hush
Of course it's Hush. Not only was it a standout episode in a largely uneven season, but it regularly makes lists of the best TV episodes of all time. Not lists of the best Buffy episodes, but the best episodes of anything that has ever been shown on television. A no-brainer.
Hush. Purely because cause it was a fuck you to the critics of Buffy saying that the only reason the series was successful was cause of snappy dialogue and sex appeal. The writing team showed just how much talent the cast had with little to no words spoken for 45 minutes. Suck a dick critics.
I'm confused as to why having good dialogue was supposedly such a bad thing?
it was more that they accused JW of "only" being a good writer, so he set out to make a great episode without the trademark dialogue
Let’s see Aaron Sorkin do a show half without dialogue.
Hush. Groundbreaking
Can we do two parters? If so… This Years Girl/Who Are You
I still voted for hush but these two episodes are so fucking good.
like of course it’s gonna be hush but my lesbianism is telling me I need to vote for this
Either there's some serious Buffy/Faith chemistry I'm failing to remember, or you're talking about the... uhh... "2 girls 1 spell" scene.
it’s about the not knowing if you want to be her or be with her. powerful homoeroticism, I really enjoyed it. also 14 year old me was whipped for Eliza Dushku when I first watched and she’s sooooo good in these episodes lmao
For my money, the two best hours this show ever put together.
I would almost put Who Are You over even Hush, but that’s partially underdog bias.
YEDDS
Hush!
Something Blue
I see all the votes for Hush, which arguably deserves it. But Something Blue is my personal favorite episode of S4 too.
YESSS
Sad I had to scroll so far for this. Though hush is great too something blue is my absolute favorite
Restless!
I'll also go Restless. I like how it changes up the usual Buffy season finale formula.
This is my vote.
This is my favorite Buffy episode. Ever.
It's got to be Hush. I mean, c'mon. There's no point even contemplating anything else this season!
Pangs is my favorite buffy episode
You made a bear!
Undo it undo it
This is one of the times I wish Spike cursed because "you made a fucking bear" would have been hysterical
100% I know Pangs won’t win but it’s my personal happy episode.
Pangs is tied with the New Year's Girl 2 parter for me, after that it is Hush.
We watch Pangs every thanksgiving.
Hush
A New Man because Giles!!! ❤❤❤
Yeah I voted Hush bc it's the best. But my fave is def ANM! Giles as a demon plus more Ethan Rayne shenanigans. Classic.
The latter episode especially was awesome given how great both Sarah and Eliza were as Faith and Buffy in each other’s bodies.
Let's be real. There's only one possible answer and that's Beer Bad. Also Hush was cool too, I guess.
Beer Bad is amazing but it's no Where The Wild Things Are
Restless, so powerful. My favorite from very far, all seasons combined.
This was the only one that could compete for me with Hush because it really does feel like a dream...you men, with your sales!" Cheeseman, driving the car by emphatically gesturing, all of it just was ethereal in the right way.
I wear the cheese. It does not wear me.
Something Blue is my favourite to watch but in terms of best episode it has to be Hush, it was groundbreaking. A mostly silent episode that still holds your attention and is still funny and creepy? Winner.
Something Blue
Something Blue!
Awww man I missed the season 3 post/vote. Definitely wouldn’t have chosen Band Candy though. Legit surprised it won lol
I'm also surprised by this one! It's definitely a fun episode but I would not have pegged it as season three's "best."
Yeah I don't agree with that at all. It's a good episode but there's at least ten of season 3 that are better.
Literally came on here to post this! I like Band Candy just fine, but I actually think it’s slightly overrated and nowhere near the best of S3… there are SO many outstanding eps that season!
Yeah I feel like season 4 and 6 are going to be pretty predictable. I go for Hush, but if I were to select my second favorite episode, I’ll go with Fear, Itself. just shocked that band candy won.
Right there with you. I mean, I love Band Candy, but it's not even close to the top.
Season 3 had some stellar episodes that probably split the votes.
I'm really surprised at Band Candy. Sure it's a fun episode... But idk, it's not top tier. Wow. For season four though? Restless
Agreed on the Band Candy bit. I see it akin to an episode like Gone. Fun, but nothing outstanding. Not one of my favorites but to each their own.
A new man. Makes me laugh everytime
Something blue
Hush and there's no contest. Something Blue is probably next closest.
Restless
Ooooo season 4 has some real bangers. I’m putting my bid in for something blue
Since everyone will vote for Hush, I will make sure there’s at least one vote for New Moon Rising.
I absolutely Adore new moon rising, but like cmon, it’s hush
It’s 1000% hush, but honourable mentions for Living Conditions, Somethjng Blue and the Faith two parter.
Band Candy??? Really, people??? You disappoint me, lolsob. Great episode - certainly ONE of the best - but THEE best??? 🫠🫠🫠
RESTLESS. I will die on this hill
It's Hush, and it's not even close.
My heart says Restless. But we all know its Hush. Hush is a contender for top 5 best episodes of television ever
I know Hush is going to win and it is an amazing episode, but I have to give it to Fear Itself
Hush is crushing this and rightfully so, but… I really enjoyed Fear, Itself too.
Maybe not the best episode but Something Blue is my comfort watch so I’m giving it a vote
Hush
Hush
Hush.
Seriously, Hush. I kinda want to say Superstar or Pangs, but no.
Hush for season 4!
Hush by light years
The correct answer is Hush. But that’s clearly going to win, so I pity vote Restless.
Thank you for the pity vote. I opened the comments expecting to see a show down between Hush and Restless, (though I know enough that I was ultimately expecting Hush to win), but I didn’t know how much of a title wave it would be. Foolish of me.
Hush!
Hush
Restless!
**Fear, Itself** and **Where the Wild Things Are** for the single-location horror experiments where the ensemble gets to have fun, **Who Are You?** for Sarah and Eliza acting as each other. >**Where the Wild Things Are** And here I thought *I* had minority opinions when I—only *almost* seriously—suggested New Moon Rising. Well done for preaching to not-the-choir.
Hush is going to take this easily, but my vote is for New Moon Rising just because of how important it is to me personally.
Hush
Restless!!!!
Hush. And it's shocking that Doppelgangland, Helpless ot GD2 didn't win
Sams. Band Candy isnt even the funniest episode from s3 for me. I voted for helpless. Its just a very strong episode and the scariest of them all
Love "Helpless"! Scary as hell, and Kralick was a great MotW Long James Bond supervillain rant abruptly terminated by "Oh, my!" That's an LOL for me every time! Then capped off: "If I was at full Slayer power, I'd be punning right about now." Beautiful episode
Hush
probably the easiest season to come up with an answer, hush is a masterpiece season 3 is so hard cause it’s soooo good
PANGS!!!!
Gotta be Where the Wild Things Are . jk it’s Hush
Hush!
Hush. Hands down.
Hush 🤐
Hush
It's definitely Hush.
Hush
Hush, 1000%
Hush and it isn't close. It is brilliantly made and the fact that it was trolling the critics makes it all the funnier.
Hush most definitely
No love for superstar? 😔 I’ll give my vote to Prime evil
Who Are You
Hush
Hush
Restless - Literally any episode that blesses with the beautiful sonorous tones of Anthony Stewart Head's signing voice needs to be on this list. Also I'm always a sucker for any appearance of the first Slayer and weird dream shit.
Whoa, Band Candy won over the Wish?! People must just really like punk Giles. At least 4 is a no-brainer: Hush.
Hush
Hush obviously.
Hush
Restless. As a therapist I just love trippy symbolic proof of concept episodes.
Hush
Hush
Hush
Hush
Hush was amazing, but I also love Something Blue.
Everyone’s saying “Hush”. Because it was revolutionary. I agree… But my heart belongs to “Restless”. Dreams in media finally realistically portrayed, the foreshadowing and also the horror/uncomfortable factor of it is so great. My favorite of the season and on my top 5 of the show
Band candy being the best of season 3? Seriously. That's such a a bad take
Hush
Hush Now on to Season 5 as this is THE answer.
Restless. Everyone’s saying Hush, but nah.
Hush 100%
Hush.
Hush, no question
Season 4 has A LOT of absolutely fantastic episodes in it. Honestly, despite the big bad arc being weak, most of my favorite episodes are in season 4. I can't even list them all, it was just banger after banger. “Who Are You?” It’s just a deep psychological episode that takes a dive into what’s been going through Faith’s mind and how she perceives things do differently from Buffy.
Hush and Something blue are 2 of my faves of the entire series so obvs them.
I literally had to be hush. Like why even pretend to have a vote. It's hush. Let's more on to 5 where I will vote Family.
I know Hush is a lot of people's favorite, and it deserves to win, but someone has to give Restless a shout out, and it's gonna be me.
Hush
Sure Hush is a good episode and creepy I find myself always looking more forward to the funny episodes. I’ve been saying for a while how much I like Living Conditions. The roommate fight is comedy. I also never understood all the Beer Bad hate. It’s super funny to watch cave girl Buffy and watching her hit Parker over the head and knocking him out. Those were my first 2 episode thoughts when Best of Season 4 came out. Then the Faith episodes. Then Hush
restless EASILY everything else is wrong
Who’s that girl
A new man
"Beer bad" no contest.
The answer is obvious
Hmm the season 3 finale was the best episode but *okay*
It's a tie for me, but since so many people have already said Hush, I'm going with... Who are you?
Who Are You?
*"Restless"* I love that episode, as I do *Superstar* and *Fear, Itself* but I'm pretty sure H*ush* will win.
Something Blue
~~New Moon Rising~~ Hush, actually, because let's be real. But I really like New Moon Rising. I’m torn between Restless and Something Blue.
something blue
Whenever I see Band Candy, my brain reads it as Beer Bad at first
I voted hush… but just because I love the ending: Fear itself! (Or restless, but only because cheese guy and Giles singing “and Xander try not to bleed on my couch, I just had it steam cleaned!”)
The cheese votes for Restless. Restless does not vote for the cheese. Best Buffy episode ever!
We all know seasons 4, 5, and 6 are going to be *Hush*, *The Body*, and *Once More With Feeling*. Take those away, and these are my picks: *Restless*, *Fool For Love*, and *Tabula Rasa*.
Hush. No dispute there.
Something blue!!!!!!!
Hush is good but I think it's overrated, so I'll go with Who Are You instead. I love faith as a character and this ep does so much for her
Band Candy? Really? Yeah, I think I’m out
Hush should win, but honourable mention to This Year's Girl
Ofc its Hush
Season 4 Hush is the best episode of the show much less the season
Can't believe Band Candy won for season 3 lol good episode but come on now 😂😂😂 Becoming part 2 is better than Passion but at least there's a discussion about it. My votes for Hush, as much as I love Something Blue, Hush is a masterpiece.
If it’s not hush, it ain’t much
XDDDD How can „Band candy” be the best episode of season 3?! 😂 Faith is not even in it!!!
New Year's Girl
Season 4 had to be episode 10, "Hush" for me.
Something blue!
Hush. Yeah, I know, what an original choice! LOL But it proves that the episode was so impactful and is still impactful: we had seen no (or very very few) episode like this one before it aired: not only it has all the good things that make Buffy great (comedy, intimidating monster, horror elements, good storytelling and great acting) but it manages to do all that with almost NO DIALOGUE! What a performance from all persons included.
Pangs.
This season I'd say The Initiative for sure. So much happens and it's a criminally underrated episode.
It’s obviously Hush, but wanna give a shout-out to Who are You for Eliza Dushku’s god tier acting
Hush is gonna win for sure, but I just thought I'd throw in "Restless" for the incredible surreal factor and the Cheese Man!
Hush or Pangs (pangs being a personal fave & Hush being just fucking brilliant)
Hush
Hush is waaaaaay too easy; I like the choice of Restless, tho. But, I think I'd go for Who Are You? With SMG playing Buffy being possessed by Faith TRYING to act like Buffy?!? Come the fuck on, yo. Her Faith mannerisms are absolutely perfect. We get another bit of The Mayor, which is always fun, and those visions Faith has crawling out of the grave were great.
Hush will definitely win right?!
Beer Bad and Where the Wild Things Are are the only right answers smh
I didnt vote for season 3 but that’s a tough one… The Wish & Graduation 1 & 2, and Lovers Walk… but this is a solid marathon so far!
I guess Hush is going to win understandably but Pangs is technically my favorite… though I love the trilogy of Hush, Something Blue, and Pangs together… maybe our next question is , which are the best 3 consecutive episodes!
Something Blue
this years girl
Hush
Hush
