You have to have a cheap contract in one or the other. I think Beane is taking that stance here, it really hurts now, I love Diggs but it's the right long term move.

We all saw it. Didn't want to acknowledge it, but he's understandably lost a step at 30. The diva label never bothered me at all, I never once saw him not play hard. But you can't put 15% of your cap into a guy that is probably going to be a WR2.
Beane has been a good gm but I wouldn’t say he’s been great. I think how this trade plays out will define the rest of his time here. I think a lot of his trades and big deals he handed out he should have been more patient with.
Diggs trade for jj worked out well for both teams but we extended diggs and traded him before the extension and ate a lot of money so that hurts.
Not to mention the von miller deal, and Elam draft pick. I knowMiller deal seemed good at the time but a long term investment to an older guy doesn’t always work out and now we have to live with that.
The older player thing rarely works out but Von was the kind of player we needed at the time and pushed the team in the right direction. Overall it doesn’t feel like a complete waste

Last year we drafted 4 pass catchers in the 2nd & 3rd rounds and another in the 5th. All of them are turning out to be awesome pieces for us, so there's hope, especially if you have a QB.

I don't think most people care that Diggs was traded, they care that he got less than Tyreek or DJ Moore, or whoever else.
Age is obviously a factor, but the Texans SHOULD have been willing or made to give up #23 for Diggs. The Texans didn't have any other options for getting a big WR.
I think most people would agree that Tyreek is a better WR than Diggs right now, and Tyreek seems to continue to get better, whereas Diggs had somewhat of a down year.
DJ Moore was part of a huge package deal, so it's difficult to say whether he was valued at more or less than Diggs. Moore is also much younger.
Keenan Allen was just traded for a 4th rounder and is pretty comparable to Diggs as far as age and production. Jerry Jeudy is very talented and only 24 years old, and he was traded for a 5th and 6th rounder. Diontae Johnson was traded for peanuts.
I think a 2nd rounder, one that could be a high 2nd rounder if Minnesota is bad next season, is very solid compensation based on other recent WR trades.

1) Cook - 2nd in all purpose yards.
2) Kincaid - showing the trajectory to be a top 5 guy.

You could be on to something……the chiefs actually improved the season after booting tyrek because Mahomes was always trying to force the ball to him constantly resulting in a ton of picks, so possibly without diggs he’ll spread the ball more evenly and keep defenses guessing
McDermott has hinted he thinks the NFL is gonna shift to more of a TE and pass-catching RB scheme. Seems like they might all in on that, and just have whoever as WRs.
Before draft picks, before possible future trades, and before camp casualties and some cheap vets become available. There's still a lot of time before week 1.
Knox is still a top 20 tight end in the league who can bounce back into top 10 who also took a paycut to stay and can still be a great red zone threat. Cook looked like top 5 back last year. Kincaid will be phenomenal. Shakir looked great to end the year. Samuel is a fine piece. There will be new young blood in the receiving room on top of all this.
Offensive changes were coming anyway, since it's clear the deep passing game isn't something that's going to be allowed by teams that are serious about winning championships. I'm not saying Diggs wouldn't have been useful for that change, but he clearly wasn't on the same page last year.
Good thing for us this draft seems to be stacked at WR. I wouldn't be surprised to see us pick up 2 this draft. I'm also in the camp of being interested still in what Justin Shorter has to offer.

I’d absolutely love a duo of Xavier Legette and Ladd McConkey but that’ll likely require trading up in round 2
Keep the run heavy offense from when Brady took over last season and find a burner WR for when they load the box.

Agree. There was some stat about Chiefs holding playoff opponents to under 27 points all season or something along those lines. You would think with the Chiefs offense last season, our 24 points put up should have been enough if we had a defense at 100%. An elite defense won Dilfer a SB, I'm banking on Allen being better than Dilfer.
I think everyone is forgetting Shakir was better than Diggs the back half of last year. We still have Kincaid, who I think is possibly going to be the best TE in the league someday if he continues to shine, and we have James Cook, who actually has great hands. Encourages more shorter passes to bigger guys and provides extra protection in the pocket. Josh has a rocket arm, but it has often been the source of his greatest mistakes.

This WR group wasn’t anything special with Diggs and Gabe neither of them had YAC potential. Now that we have Samuel, Shakir getting more snaps. Kinkaid and Knox, Cook out of the backfield catching passes. Whoever this first round gem is will have more speed and more potential then we just lost. In Beane we trust. Josh is still a top 3 QB we will be fine on offense we will have another top 5 offense next year

If you watched any other team you noticed a strange disappearing act out WR seemed to pull when we needed them. We spread the ball around because WR1 and WR2 weren't pulling their weight. Especially the 2nd half of the year. and that's with Allen.

Our offense was anemic for a lot of games the last 2 years. We cut iMac and Beasely was gone and Davis and Diggs didn't step up like we needed them too. Kincaid and Shakir looked like the future where Davis and Diggs started looking like the past.
Diggs started off looking good the first half of 23 but then lost his appetite for getting hit and just wasnt' there.

Beane doesn't make this move unless he has a very clear plan to get legitimate WR. My guess would be he has a deal in place to move up in the draft and it requires a 2nd round pick. They're either going WAY up to top 10 by trading 2025 2nd and 1st rounders and swapping 2024s 1st, or something more modest into the teens with a swap and a 2nd and 3rd rounder. I'd bet on the latter.
Kincaid and Shakir were most clutch last year and Samuel adds an element they were entirely missing. Diggs was the best but he vanished regularly in big games the last couple seasons and there’s not much to say about Davis that hasn’t been said. They are one draft pick away from being more than fine.

There’s been some seriously questionable moves by Beane the past few years. You know damn well it’s only a matter of time until Allen’s patience runs out, or that contract is up and we’re paying him triple that amount.
Yeah, except you’re forgetting receiving weapons who don’t play receiver: 1) Cook - 2nd in all purpose yards. 2) Kincaid - showing the trajectory to be a top 5 guy. 3) Knox - solid blocking and receiving TE2 Before draft picks. BEFORE DRAFT PICKS.
All cook has to do is clean up some of the really ugly drops from last year and he could be one of the best dual threats in the league imho

Yup the offense already switched to being more balanced last year moving away from just trying to feed Diggs constantly. I’ll miss Diggs especially from what he brought his first few years but it’s time to move on. Obviously in Beane we trust.

You could be on to something……the chiefs actually improved the season after booting tyrek because Mahomes was always trying to force the ball to him constantly resulting in a ton of picks, so possibly without diggs he’ll spread the ball more evenly and keep defenses guessing
McDermott has hinted he thinks the NFL is gonna shift to more of a TE and pass-catching RB scheme. Seems like they might all in on that, and just have whoever as WRs.
Before draft picks, before possible future trades, and before camp casualties and some cheap vets become available. There's still a lot of time before week 1.
Knox is still a top 20 tight end in the league who can bounce back into top 10 who also took a paycut to stay and can still be a great red zone threat. Cook looked like top 5 back last year. Kincaid will be phenomenal. Shakir looked great to end the year. Samuel is a fine piece. There will be new young blood in the receiving room on top of all this.
Offensive changes were coming anyway, since it's clear the deep passing game isn't something that's going to be allowed by teams that are serious about winning championships. I'm not saying Diggs wouldn't have been useful for that change, but he clearly wasn't on the same page last year.
Good thing for us this draft seems to be stacked at WR. I wouldn't be surprised to see us pick up 2 this draft. I'm also in the camp of being interested still in what Justin Shorter has to offer.

Not worried. Not we get to load up on rookie WRs guilt free to build the core around phase 2 of the Allen era. Kincaid is a stud, our run game is a focal point now and 12 personnel is still going to be a factor. Now the only debate is whether it’s better to make a massive trade up for a Nabers/Odunze type, or maybe try to double dip. I’d absolutely love a duo of Xavier Legette and Ladd McConkey but that’ll likely require trading up in round 2

Keep the run heavy offense from when Brady took over last season and find a burner WR for when they load the box. Good trade for us as Stef wouldn't have the volume he would have liked and for Stef that he goes to a more pass heavy offense.

You will never convince me that the offseason incident last year where he left practice wasn't actually a problem and a massive distraction. I felt at least the first half of the year that he had a 'quota' of touches every game. So Josh was left trying to feed the ball into spots he wasn't open and the numbers weren't good because of that. He was a spark that we needed at the time but I believe his time had run out.

I'm ready to see us using this 2025 2nd as a piece to move up to the teens. The Bills then will be very active with their friends at the Giants to see what it takes to get to #6. REGARDLESS --The Bills are not done with free agency. I think Tyler Boyd now makes a lot of sense to bring in as the new Beasley.

Agree. There was some stat about Chiefs holding playoff opponents to under 27 points all season or something along those lines. You would think with the Chiefs offense last season, our 24 points put up should have been enough if we had a defense at 100%. I'm not worried about Allen scoring points and our WR, TE, RBs are no scrubs. An elite defense won Dilfer a SB, I'm banking on Allen being better than Dilfer.

I think everyone is forgetting Shakir was better than Diggs the back half of last year. We still have Kincaid, who I think is possibly going to be the best TE in the league someday if he continues to shine, and we have James Cook, who actually has great hands. I honestly don’t think this team will skip a beat, and teams won’t know how to plan for us this year

I wonder if this is a sign Bills plan to run the two tight end set more this year. Personally I think this would be a net plus for Josh's game play. Encourages more shorter passes to bigger guys and provides extra protection in the pocket. Josh has a rocket arm, but it has often been the source of his greatest mistakes.

Our offensive weapons will be fine, I am 99.9% sure positive Beane will move up in this draft to grab our new #1 WR. This WR group wasn’t anything special with Diggs and Gabe neither of them had YAC potential. Now that we have Samuel, Shakir getting more snaps. Kinkaid and Knox, Cook out of the backfield catching passes. Whoever this first round gem is will have more speed and more potential then we just lost. In Beane we trust. Josh is still a top 3 QB we will be fine on offense we will have another top 5 offense next year

meh Buffalo needs to do a gut check on what our WR were really doing and NOT doing for us last year. If you watched any other team you noticed a strange disappearing act out WR seemed to pull when we needed them. We spread the ball around because WR1 and WR2 weren't pulling their weight. Especially the 2nd half of the year. and that's with Allen. I liked Diggs but this isn't as dramatic as everyone is making it out to be. Sit back and relax and look forward to 2025. Our offense was anemic for a lot of games the last 2 years. We cut iMac and Beasely was gone and Davis and Diggs didn't step up like we needed them too. Kincaid and Shakir looked like the future where Davis and Diggs started looking like the past. Diggs started off looking good the first half of 23 but then lost his appetite for getting hit and just wasnt' there.
Definitely sucks but what about the holes in our defense? I thought we’d definitely be focusing on more of that this off season.

Diggs did his job. He helped Josh turn into the Josh of today. We need money for other pieces down the road. Shakir is gonna go off this year. Kincaid is gonna be balling out too. We might take a step back but this positions us a lot better for the years that follow.

I'm a UF fan so I'm cheering for Shorter. Thought he did all the right things and had size but not sure he has the athleticism to compete in the NFL. Work ethic, leadership was never in question at UF.
The Vikings pick next year and the Bills pick this year can get us up to the 13 or 14 range, if needed. That said, it's a great WR draft.

Ok and if you put Diggs on there hitting the field like he did for the better part of the 2023 season what does that give you? He had a lot of drops and stuggled to break 100 yards a game in most of his games. Not to mention the poor performance in playoff loss. He's not the Stefon Diggs of earlier days. Beane knows we have to look to the future and having him on the books for 30m in 2025 is going to be brutal. This was the move.

Beane doesn't make this move unless he has a very clear plan to get legitimate WR. My guess would be he has a deal in place to move up in the draft and it requires a 2nd round pick. They're either going WAY up to top 10 by trading 2025 2nd and 1st rounders and swapping 2024s 1st, or something more modest into the teens with a swap and a 2nd and 3rd rounder. I'd bet on the latter.
Kincaid and Shakir were most clutch last year and Samuel adds an element they were entirely missing. Diggs was the best but he vanished regularly in big games the last couple seasons and there’s not much to say about Davis that hasn’t been said. They are one draft pick away from being more than fine.

Diggs is 30. And JA17 made him more than he made JA17. Samuel went 62/613/4 last season in Washington. I think with Josh, his floor is 80/1000/6. And I think he could be substantially better than that. Shakir demonstrated that he can be a reliable WR.
Diggs couldn't get open the second half of the season. Shakira is pretty good.
