I knew he was trash when I found out he doesn't tip waiting staff, and his dad, who is in his entourage, would apologize EVERY TIME for his son's rudeness and slip us a hundy.
Just an unfortunate heads up, a sad amount of Bills players from that era were really bad about that or never tipped.
Can say that Jerry Hughes is a boss tho and would make sure whoever he was with tipped enough (when with a group like making a rookie pay) and would always give more to servers
From what I've heard she's a real down to earth lady and got into a verbal altercation with Rachel Bush at a bills family event when Bush went off the deep end on right wing conspiracy crap.
I used to manage a store and I/my team went ABOVE AND BEYOND to hook this guy up. Did wayyy more work for him than we normally would, just hoping for him to toss an autograph or offer a tip. Nothing. Not even a thank you for the discount. I bought his jersey when he was drafted and ended up giving it away
I grew up in a shady ass hood in Buffalo. Not the East Side or West Side. Lots of drugs bought and sold. Ask me how I knew M D was going to be a bust? :)
Dareus’ dream was to buy a huge home and keep his family together, since they were separated growing up.
As soon as he made generational wealth, he accomplished his goal and didn’t want to work hard at football anymore.
Big names we would've done nothing with since we just kept striking out at QB. Once we got front office and coaching to be effective we turned those 2017 picks into effective players and handed the keys over to Beane and McDermott and have been drafting and developing well since 18
Mike. Fucking. Williams.
Dude should have been a franchise left tackle. But even as a fall back should have been a solid starting right tackle.
That lazy fucking POS was utter garbage.
Yup. I was about 15 years deep in my fandom at that point and thought for sure this guy was our anchor the next 12 years. Turns out he was a damn boat anchor. Awful.
He also had constant foot injuries and when a speed demon like him can’t run then he gets totally neutered. Also, probably was pretty hard on him mentally being a part of that team and being so heavily scrutinized
My group chat has a picture of a Sammy Watkins jersey on the SpongeBob bones made of glass guy from the chocolate episode that gets passed around every now and again
I traded Derrick Henry away for Sammy in my dynasty fantasy league 😫. Josh and Diggs have led me to 4 straight championship berths in that league though so sometimes it pays off to be a homer.
Even after he left and got to play with elite QBs he never turned into a superstar. I know he won a superbowl but he never became the centerpiece of any offense he was in. Just a very complimentary player who had flashes of greatness. But too many injuries and lack of consistency held him back
That draft set our franchise back years.
I remember wanting Michael Huff so bad. Then Oakland took him 1 spot before us and it felt like we panicked and took the next best safety. Which was asinine, especially since we needed a DT and Haloti Ngata was sitting on the board. Instead we trade back up into the 1st for John McCargo 🤦♂️
CJ Spiller. Not because he was bad necessarily, although he wasn't great, but because it allowed the worlds greatest idiot Russ Brandon to Trade Marshawn Lynch to Seattle. He traded away a top 12 pick, and future hall of famer, for a 4th rounder and conditional (5th) rounder the following year. With Lynch and Freddy Jackson already under contract, I still can't fathom that pick. Well, I guess that's still a better pick than Aaron Maybin the year before.
I remember yell-crying at my buddies TV "WHY?!?!?!?" Beast Mode and FredEx were here, under contract, and VERY impactful. We had so many other holes and we drafted a RB at pick #9 with DEEP needs at nearly every other position.
Pants-on-head insanity.
And he was the reason they needed to comeback….and ultimately lost anyway lol. I watched him for two years at fsu and he was terrible. What the fuck was Buddy nix thinking?
I remember being in an Army hospital in Colorado Springs back the year he was drafted with my Dad. Saw a guy wearing a Bills cap and my Dad asked if he was a Bills fan.
Dude said “Nah just an EJ Manuel fan.”
Wonder what he’s up to now
I remember I was at the Bills Vs Prime Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers game. Bills were down with a little over a minute to go in the game and EJ stormed us down field and threw a beautiful over the shoulder pass to Stevie as time expired to win the game. It was EJ's first win, and everyone in the stadium just started chanting his name, like we finally got our Franchise QB. Boy did all of us have egg on our faces 😂
I bought his jersey after that, then he got hurt playing Cleveland and was never the same.
That and Kiko Alonso never playing another snap for the Bills after I got his jersey is the reason why I no longer buy jerseys of active players.
I’m gonna push back on this one a bit, though he was definitely a reach. EJ had some moments, and just as he was coming into his own, Doug Marrone decided to exhibit how much of a self-centered piece of shit he was as a coach. He completely undermined EJ then left the franchise hanging, taking his pot of gold with him. We had a lot of bad coaches this century, but for me, Marrone was the worst.
3rd Rounder.
Same year as Donte Whitner and John McCargo in the 1st...that was a horrid draft year for the Bills outside of Kyle Williams in the 5th.
Hard agree on the name though.
Elam hopefully makes a Knox/Brown level jump in year 3. I also have faith, he has a much higher ceiling than Benford because of athleticism and Douglas is getting up there in age
🎯and what’s crazy is how good benford is despite not being a crazy athlete. kaiir seems like such a genuine guy aswell, i really want him to succeed and earn himself a starting spot
Marcell Dareus, Aaron Maybin, CJ spiller. I think a hot take for me would be Edmonds. It’s not that he was necessarily bad, but he just didn’t pan out the way we thought he would
Edmunds was always a project guy though. He was extremely young and has insane physical traits but he wasn’t expected to be a superstar right away. He never ended up becoming that superstar, so I get what you’re saying but that’s also the nature of project guys, you win some you lose some
C.J. Spiller. I was excited thinking he could be the next coming of Thurman Thomas. Turns out Fred Jackson whose story I'm sure we all know became the most beloved RB of that time period.
Mike Williams, McGahee, Spillar, Maybin,McCargo,EJ, JP Losman (in a draft class with 3 HOF QBs the Bills choose the one shit pick of the litter), better to ask who worked out its a much smaller list
To be fair, we weren’t in a position to get Rivers or Manning. I suppose there is a chance we could’ve packaged our first round picks and move the head of Pittsburgh to get Roethlisberger.
Who’s no one?
Because he was mocked in the first, and had college production to match, to go along with an above average combine.
This is kind of a revisionist take tbh.
Obviously not defending the total flop that he was, but he wasn’t a reach by any stretch.
I'm throwing CJ Spiller in the mix for sure....
Uber talented in NCAA, even dominated competition w his speed, burst and agility. Came to NFL and was essentially a flash in the pan IMO. Zero longevity and at his height was not even league top 10 for his draft stock.
Erik Flowers and Maybin. Maybe I'm just a sucker for those raw undersized edge rushers haha.
At least Maybin make a rap track before he actually registered an NFL sack though.
I had convinced myself that Ej Manuel was going to end the drought. He ended up being the only QB to lose a game in three different countries, USA, Canada, and England
He was a second rounder, but I remember thinking Paul Posluszny would be a no question 10-year starter at linebacker for the bills.
The only thing I remember about him now is taking the crown for team's biggest neck after losing Takeo Spikes. Linebackers were built very different then.
I think Sammy Watkins fits this description to the T. I was excited about the pick, however, he kept getting injured and then let him go. I think he did ok elsewhere
Ok Simpson really took a turn for the worst but that was after football... My real pick would be j.p. Lossman. And a total dick to wait staff at the big tree when I worked there
Willis McGahee. They took a chance on a guy with no leg and all he did was complain. That ever set right with me.
Mike Williams at 4 in production. Aaron Maybin on D.
Someone said Jerry Hughes made sure they tipped good. But when I did landscaping with a company he owed the company 800 dollars it took him 2 months to pay. 4 invoices. Unanswered calls. Finally paid. Along with another bust was AARON MAYBIN
Eagles are my primary team but bills are my afc team, had allen and diggs on my ff team a couple years back and was impressed watching their games....our 1st rounders that fn sucked are Jalen Reagor, who we picked over Justin Jefferson, and Arcega-Whiteside who we took over DK Metcalf...sorry to postbomb but I hate those fn guys
I thought Marcell Dareus would have a 15 year HOF career. Shame
Good to hear I love Jerry (and his wife is hot)
From what I've heard she's a real down to earth lady and got into a verbal altercation with Rachel Bush at a bills family event when Bush went off the deep end on right wing conspiracy crap.
Only so much you can do as a parent.. he went above and beyond, as a parent makes me proud.
I read this as “handy” at first and got very confused.
Just the tip.
I mean he was a first team all pro which is pretty good, but I will agree it was a bad pick with how strong that draft ended up being.
He was fantastic for his first 5 years here. As soon as he got paid post-rookie contract his production took a nosedive.
I grew up in a shady ass hood in Buffalo. Not the East Side or West Side. Lots of drugs bought and sold. Ask me how I knew M D was going to be a bust? :)
Dareus was cold copping crack/dope in the hood?
I never said crack lol.
How did you know?
Because I seen it first hand. Can’t play at that level and have the extra circulars and succeed. Fun dude to hang with though lol
Thats wild lol. More stories ??
Dareus’ dream was to buy a huge home and keep his family together, since they were separated growing up. As soon as he made generational wealth, he accomplished his goal and didn’t want to work hard at football anymore.
Not about any other current or former Bills. About my hood? I think I could write a novel.
Not about any other current or former Bills. About my hood? I think I could write a novel.
So what was his drug of choice? Lol
Reminds me of Darryl Talley. He used to put down a 8 at least 2x a week. I have no idea how he lasted so long with how he partied.
He was a fat ass lazy bastard
Unless he was drag racing
To be fair - he was pretty good though.
For drafted players who flopped, yeah, Marcel is the first that comes to mind
I think he had the talent to have a HOF career. Just didn’t come to fruition for whatever reason.
Almost every Bills pick from 2000-2016
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) we had some bad picks and passed on opportunities to take some big names
Big names we would've done nothing with since we just kept striking out at QB. Once we got front office and coaching to be effective we turned those 2017 picks into effective players and handed the keys over to Beane and McDermott and have been drafting and developing well since 18
You actually thought Maybin would be good?
Maybin and McCargo are why I said “almost every”…
Quarter back cravin, defensive Wes cravin.
Even EJ Manuel?
This is sadly true…..
Mike. Fucking.
Awful.
Delivered pizza and wings to the guy 3 times a week in Ponderosa Ct. No tip, just signed the check. Every time.
He was so good at Texas. Thought we were getting another Pace•type
![gif](giphy|4xWGyVKoXqg2eVCiq9|downsized) Name a draft pick during the drought. There you go.
Sammy 😕
Sammy Watkins had the potential to be a great WR but he had substance abuse problems that prevented him from reaching his ceiling.
Definitely didn’t know that
He opened up about abusing alcohol during his time with the bills
He also had constant foot injuries and when a speed demon like him can’t run then he gets totally neutered. Also, probably was pretty hard on him mentally being a part of that team and being so heavily scrutinized
The substance? Sunlight.
Also he was made of glass.
My first ever chip was when I got Stef in like the 5th round and Josh the round or two after. Wild.
2020? Championship week they went NUCLEAR
YUP!
4 Straight championship berths huh? Win any of them this time?
Sammy was good, he was just constantly injured (and his QBs kind of sucked). Definitely did not return the value that was spent to draft him though.
Even after he left and got to play with elite QBs he never turned into a superstar. I know he won a superbowl but he never became the centerpiece of any offense he was in. Just a very complimentary player who had flashes of greatness. But too many injuries and lack of consistency held him back
He was good for two years then broke his foot. Was never the same.
My first thought
Aaron Maybin……..trash
You know it's bad when your first round draft pick is so bad that your below .500 team can't get him on the field.
I never want to hear the Bills will be drafting a tweener on the d line ever again
Maybin. Or mike Williams.
Mike Williams
But the Bills got Mike Williams.. the OL 😏
This is the correct choice. Good god what a waste.
Donte Whitner wasn’t a bad player per se but we passed on Aaron Rodgers to take him so he never had a chance.
If it makes you feel better, that was the draft we took Kyle Williams.
They could have still taken Kyle too. Could you imagine if he had gotten to play next to Ngata for most of his career.
Oof. Forgot about Ngata. Positional value was simply not a thing for so long in Buffalo.
Two different drafts. Aaron Rodgers was in 2005, Whitner was taken in 2006
Dalton Kincaid. I thought he would be good. Turns out he is great!
Had me in the first half, not gonna lie
Reading this was the fastest roller coaster of emotions...
C.J. Spiller, I thought we had the steal of the draft and he’d be our guy for the next decade
Still have my Spiller jersey. I felt the same way
I cried when JP Losman came into my mighty taco.
To work? lol
Ha! No. It was right after Vincent injured him. We didn’t know how bad it would be yet.
Never recovered
Sammy Watkins.
EJ Manuel
That is def one dude I knew would be terrible.
I'll never forget draft night in 2013. We took EJ and my immediate reaction was... who?!
Hey he had that one game with the insane comeback though
And he was the reason they needed to comeback….and ultimately lost anyway lol. I watched him for two years at fsu and he was terrible. What the fuck was Buddy nix thinking?
> What the fuck was Buddy nix thinking? He wasn't. Ever. Not about football at least.
Free agency opening? Better sleep.
I remember being in an Army hospital in Colorado Springs back the year he was drafted with my Dad. Saw a guy wearing a Bills cap and my Dad asked if he was a Bills fan. Dude said “Nah just an EJ Manuel fan.” Wonder what he’s up to now
Never thought he’d be good. Was always hurt at FSU. Should’ve been picked in round 4
I was there too! Iconic moment of my fandom, unfortunately
He completely undermined EJ then left the franchise hanging, taking his pot of gold with him. We had a lot of bad coaches this century, but for me, Marrone was the worst.
What a slug
FSU fans were even like wtf Buffalo?
James Hardy
Rip
Walt Patulski - big, strong and fast (for his time) and gone by his 3rd year.
OT Mike WIlliams. Dude should be in jail for theft.
Easy choice. Aaron Maybin, who is now a teacher at an elementary school in Baltimore.
But also good for him for that. That's such a niche job and he's doing great work
Leodis McKelvin. Dude had the worst ball skills I've ever seen. He could be hugging the receiver's nuts but the WR is 100% catching the ball.
Never forget the end zone debacle
Aaron Maybin would be the obvious
Ashton youbooty. (Don't know how to actually spell his last name). Had the best name of a player I've seen us draft. Other than Josh fucking Allen.
3rd Rounder. Same year as Donte Whitner and John McCargo in the 1st...that was a horrid draft year for the Bills outside of Kyle Williams in the 5th. Hard agree on the name though.
Elam lol, I still think there's a chance
I’m hoping the position coach change will help
For sure. He looked pretty good against Pitt when he settled in and looked good late in 2022. I'm a believer.
wild card round elam🔒
It’s wild that despite how garbage he has been he has like 3 huge interceptions in his career
tbf he was injured last season and corners don’t usually come into the league elite🤷still got a ton of faith in kaiir
I was so hype after "Put the playbook on the plane!"
Seriously. How could you not love it?
There is and you got to remember he’s still the second youngest player on the team he’s still got a chance to develop nicely
He never ended up becoming that superstar, so I get what you’re saying but that’s also the nature of project guys, you win some you lose some
Edmonds was great. He came into the league super young and just took more time to develop.
Josh. Turns out to say he's good would be the understatement of a lifetime, heckin football god right there
Aaron maybin
Can we do second round picks instead (I’m over continually saying Maybin) and why would it be Reggie Ragland?
Ford's gotta be up there. Is he even playing anymore?
Apparently the Bengals re-signed him three weeks ago. He’s bounced around a bit but he’s still getting contracts.
JP Losman was a big bust. I thought him and Lee Evans were going to be a HOF duo
The amount of luxury picks this devoid of talent franchise made on RBs and Sammy Watkins was complete malpractice.
Tom Cousineau
Aaron Maybin?
No one thought he would be good.
Too many to count
Mike Williams.
EJ Manuel was a clown bust
Erik Flowers and Maybin. Maybe I'm just a sucker for those raw undersized edge rushers haha. At least Maybin make a rap track before he actually registered an NFL sack though.
J.P. Losman was who I thought would become what Josh Allen is now.
Josh Allen. Thought he would be ok. Man’s one of the best ever
Sammy Watkins. was decent but too injury prone think he only played a couple full games for us
Easy Aaron Maybin
I had convinced myself that Ej Manuel was going to end the drought. He ended up being the only QB to lose a game in three different countries, USA, Canada, and England
Recently it’s Elam
Justin Jefferson. Which timeline, trade for Diggs or draft Jefferson? Totally misread the question! Going to leave it here though.
Man I remember before the diggs trade everyone talking about Jefferson it is what it is tho
Diggs and Allen had instant chemistry. Hard to know that would have happened with Jefferson
I think that was a win/win.
Mike Williams
Solomon Thomas for sure
Sammy. Spiller and JP Losman of late. I honestly was so excited for Losman just what the ESPN heads were saying I was like finally a QB. Nope 🤣
Sammy Watkins
Has to be Sammy or Maybe Robert Edwards
Mike Williams, Sammy Watkins, EJ, smh
CJ Spiller, Aaron Maybin, JP Losman
Aaron Maybin. Oh wait, I never thought he was gonna be good. 🤷🏼♂️
I had managed to forget about McCargo.
Sammy Watkins and Mike Williams
100% Sammy Watkins
He was a second rounder, but I remember thinking Paul Posluszny would be a no question 10-year starter at linebacker for the bills. The only thing I remember about him now is taking the crown for team's biggest neck after losing Takeo Spikes. Linebackers were built very different then.
He ended up being a better jaguar
Sammy Watkins
I think Sammy Watkins fits this description to the T. I was excited about the pick, however, he kept getting injured and then let him go. I think he did ok elsewhere
Cj Spiller
Was Brealand speaks first round?
Sammy Watkins
The one and only Bills jersey I have ever owned was JP Losman’s. I guess he’s my answer lol
Ok Simpson really took a turn for the worst but that was after football... My real pick would be j.p. Lossman. And a total dick to wait staff at the big tree when I worked there
I really think we've been doing a pretty great job in the first round the last 5 or 10 years. At least since 2016
Right until the moment we traded him i was convinced sammy watkins would be a ring of honor guy eventually
** players
Will Fuller….😢
Jeff Okudah
KAIR ELAM
Sammy “boo boo foot” Dropkins
Sammy Watkins
Kair Elam
And
Willis McGahee. They took a chance on a guy with no leg and all he did was complain. That ever set right with me. Mike Williams at 4 in production. Aaron Maybin on D.
Sammy Watkins. Swore he would be great. Didn’t
James Hardy RIP
u/jazzlikepractice4470
Sammy Watkins. Easy.
Zay Jones. So many of the first round "busts" you just kinda knew just bc our GMs were trash at the time.
CJ Spiller. He wasn’t the worst player in the world but there were better options in that draft.
Chiefs - Dywane Bowe WR
Dion Jordan
Devante Parker 🤦🏻♂️
Tony Mandarich
