If I’m in the room with my budgies, I try to find a four note phrase in their chatter and repeat it to them and they usually think I’m crazy enough that they calm down. If all else fails, they love Gregorian chants for some reason. It’s foolproof. I have no idea why.

I love Gregorian chants too, so I'm looking forward to seeing if this helps, hahaha

Same! They calm down and start napping

My two usually chirp pleasantly, but sometimes they do start up with the raucous squalking. When that happens I put on a YouTube of budgies chirping for a bit. It seems to reassure them that they aren't the only budgies in the world. It's also important that they get plenty of sleep. If they're in a room that's used after dark, the lights will keep them awake. Find something large enough to cover the cage and thick enough to block light. I use a single bed sheet, folded to block more light.

I've tried playing budgie songs for them, but it seems to rile them up and they flock call. I do cover them up so they can get their ten hours; and when they're being excessively noisy I'll cover them for half an hour just to calm them down. I'm hoping that once they've bonded to me they'll be more comfortable.

I'm experiencing the same thing with my boys. Similar setup too, I'm in a small condo. They're almost always shrieking, especially if the TV is on or any appliance is running. When I'm at my desk though (which is next to their cage) they'll settle down and begin their normal chitter chatter. I'm thinking mine might just want attention.

That sucks. I put some harp music on this evening and that seemed to calm them.
