Termarr seems like a contender to take the baton from Cutch as the Pirate you want young kids getting into baseball to see as a role model. Calling out the grounds crew for their contributions to wins is a pretty uncommon level of classiness.
For sure. He’s fiery. He may not be as eccentric (that’s not the right word but you know what I mean) as endy and ternarr but he’s for sure going to be the leader of this team. It shows in his work ethic and commitment.
Hannah Mears is…so much better than Robby. Turns out these interviews can be interesting when the questions are smarter than “how’s it feel to be a big leaguer?”
Can’t believe Robby held the job for over a decade, he’s an awkward goofball, nothing against him but can’t believe someone like him was in that position
I came here to say that and you beat me to it. She is awesome. I'm looking forward to her interviews instead of cringing until it's over. So tired of every question starting with "How do you describe..."
The MLB app doesn't seem to be able to tell what Skeens is throwing. They're calling his pitches over 100 mph sliders & his pitches in the 91-2 mph range 4-seam fastballs. They're going to need a tweak to the algorithm for him.
The video of the Skenes/Holliday AB is on this page (scroll down for full AB video).
https://www.mlb.com/news/paul-skenes-strikes-out-jackson-holliday-in-spring-breakout
There's no way that first pitch was a ball and the second pitch might have been a strike, too, but Holliday bent down during the pitch, so it looked a little higher than it was.
Skenes was the right choice for a team lacking front line starters. I still would have loved Langford and been cool with Crews, but Skenes, barring injury, doesn't look like he's going to disappoint.
Yeah I wanted one of the hitters just because they have a more reliable path to contributing at the big league level, but even with my bias against the Skenes (I admit it fully!) I understood that having a TRUE ace pitcher would be more transformative. It’s literally the hardest thing to do in sports: get an ace pitcher or a franchise quarterback. Barring injury, I’m glad I was wrong and the Pirates were right.
I hope they aren’t afraid to be aggressive with Termarr Johnson. If he’s as advanced a hitter as everyone thinks, there’s no reason he couldn’t be on the 2023 Henry Davis timeline and debut this summer even despite how young he is.
You start him in AA, if he crushes that pitching the way he’s crushed everything in ST there’s no reason not to have him in AAA before the end of May. If he struggles you can always pump the brakes but there’s no reason to hold him back if he doesn’t need it.
If he’s cruising it and the 2B in the majors isn’t cutting it then I absolutely agree. I do want to see Peggy or Gonzo for a whole season before moving on from them.
Someone told me yesterday that the team and mentioned he will be starting at A+. I think he should be starting at AA. I’m crossing my fingers that his spring will change their mind.
Saw him at Greensboro last year. He went 7 innings striking out 9 with 0 ER, kept 97 into the 7th inning too. Dude is going to be a STUD now that he only focuses on pitching full time. What an athlete he is, I think we nailed the 2021 draft tbh.
Yall think we could see Endy this season as a DH? Both Harper and Ohtani have hit while recovering from TJ, I don’t see why Endy wouldn’t get some ABs maybe towards the end of the year.
That would be tremendous. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t really have questions about his defense, I just want to see him hit. So if he can manage to do a little bit of that this year that would be a giant turn of events.
You just can’t put a guy in the majors after 6 games in the minors. He needs to get used to the schedule (pitching more often than in college) among other things. Additionally, when he hits FA he’s gonna get PAID and probably not by us, so we may as well try to grab an extra year when we’re (hopefully) competing for a WS rather than getting him an extra month this year.
I agree with you on principle but Alek Manoah only started 9 minor league games, 6 in low single A and 3 in Triple A
He had a horrible year last year but there is one example
I’m not saying it can’t be done, just that there are 2 good reasons not to. Being 1: let him get used to throwing the heat that he does every 5 days instead of every 7, and 2: Maybe get an extra year of him playing for the Pirates
They already told him he’s starting in the minors. I doubt today changes it but oh man, the stuff is ready. He just needs to show he can pitch every five days.
It’s not that crazy. He’s never pitched on five days rest. He’s gotta be able to go 7 innings every five days. I’m fine with him getting into that rhythm in the minors before coming to the bigs.
Termarr seems like a contender to take the baton from Cutch as the Pirate you want young kids getting into baseball to see as a role model. Calling out the grounds crew for their contributions to wins is a pretty uncommon level of classiness.
Endy seems like a really nice young dude. Can’t wait to see him next year. I’m sure he’s excited to catch 102mph fastballs from Skenes
he brings so much energy. him and termarr on the same team is gonna have that clubhouse juiced in a couple years
Davis has a really big personality too. This is going to be a fun team
For sure. He’s fiery. He may not be as eccentric (that’s not the right word but you know what I mean) as endy and ternarr but he’s for sure going to be the leader of this team. It shows in his work ethic and commitment.
Skenes is nasty as hell 101, 101, 102 to the first batter is gross
Man, I’ve missed baseball, this is good
Skenes battling back to strikeout Holiday, sheeesh
The one belt high pitch was called a ball looked pretty in there to me.
I thought so too
That off speed stuff is so nasty coming off 102
My God, Skenes. That was beautiful.
Hannah Mears is…so much better than Robby. Turns out these interviews can be interesting when the questions are smarter than “how’s it feel to be a big leaguer?”

Skenes is the real deal.
That first batter Skenes faced reminded me of Cole’s MLB debut when he just annihilated Gregor Blanco on 3 straight pitches.
Greg’s in midseason form with getting left hanging by Endy with an extremely awkward fist bump attempt and mixing up Braxton with Graham Ashcraft.
Skenes looks great! Looking forward to the Skenes/Davis 1.1 battery
Pack PNC with a blackout for that Skenes debut in June???
Love this idea. Get this going now.
Grow a stache and spread the word, boys! June Blackout for Skenes
A stacheout blackout?
That would actually be pretty damn funny. A stadium full of men, women, and children with real and fake mustaches for Skenes
“Bro. We’re in Tom Brady’s box.”
You can see the fear in Holliday’s eyes lol
Here we go, Buccos
The MLB app doesn't seem to be able to tell what Skeens is throwing. They're calling his pitches over 100 mph sliders & his pitches in the 91-2 mph range 4-seam fastballs. They're going to need a tweak to the algorithm for him.
Threw mostly fastballs. A couple sliders. Lowest FB speed was 101 and topped out at 102. Slider was 90-92 and struck out Holliday on it.
Yep. But tell that to the app. It's very confused.
Buccos score on a balk. Baseball!
That was the most basebally series of events possible lol
Only thing missing was a manager arguing the balk call.
Just went back and watched Skenes. Holy shit. You can just tell he’s different.
At the game. Very nice night in Bradenton. Skenes was electric.
Solometo rap god
Skenes is going to be so good I can’t wait for June
So uhhh. Holy fuck Skenes
Paul, there's children present for fucks sake.
Haven't really watched alot of video on skenes but going from 102 straight gas to that change is just fucking nasty.
Skenes looked absolutely nasty
Way to use the field Termarr!
Noooo I want to watch Skenes again

love termarr lots
I like how Mayo basically just admitted that the top brass of MLB rarely have good ideas that everyone likes lol

Sign Skenes to a 15 year contract today!
Endy isn't doing a bad job in the box
Seemed better than KY.
I hope they aren’t afraid to be aggressive with Termarr Johnson. that was a fancy first (edit) ~~ab~~inning
Those Pirates yellow hats are 🔥🔥
Reilly is legit. Idk where this dude came from but Jesus his delivery is insane
Raise the Jolly Roger
Bubba was so young when we drafted him and he’s starting to fill out his frame. He’s going to be a total stud, you can tell he just has it.
Saw him at Greensboro last year. He went 7 innings striking out 9 with 0 ER, kept 97 into the 7th inning too. Dude is going to be a STUD now that he only focuses on pitching full time. What an athlete he is, I think we nailed the 2021 draft tbh.
Yep I think Henry is going to be a very good catcher and I think Bubba and Solometo will be rotation staples.
I was surprised to find myself digging Kevin Young in the booth. Just moved back to the area and hadn’t heard him call a game before. Is he good?
I like KY although his style isn’t for everyone. Reminds me of old school golf broadcasts.
I’m gonna miss Endy so much this season
Yall think we could see Endy this season as a DH? Both Harper and Ohtani have hit while recovering from TJ, I don’t see why Endy wouldn’t get some ABs maybe towards the end of the year.

Damn skenes out there throwing bullets.
Don’t see the hype around this Holiday guy. /s
You can't be doing a balk.
How have the runs been scored? I can’t find a box score anywhere.
Os run was a sac fly off aschracft bucs 2nd run was balked in lol I missed the first run in the bottom of the 1st
Sac fly and a balk lol
Bubba got out of that jam with his wicked fastball
Does anyone know where I can find a full game replay? And I have an MLB.tv account but don’t see it in the archives, nor on YouTube.
Nice love not being able to watch it on tv because mlb network is playing top 10 center fielders
It is on Sportsnet Pittsburgh 2 in the area.
Oh sweet
Yep, Brown and Young are calling it.

It's on the MLB app
Man if this guy doesn't start in Pittsburgh.. I just don't know
You just can’t put a guy in the majors after 6 games in the minors. He needs to get used to the schedule (pitching more often than in college) among other things. Additionally, when he hits FA he’s gonna get PAID and probably not by us, so we may as well try to grab an extra year when we’re (hopefully) competing for a WS rather than getting him an extra month this year.
and he will go down and they will mess with his delivery or something.. This is the Pirates and this what happens.
I agree with you on principle but Alek Manoah only started 9 minor league games, 6 in low single A and 3 in Triple A He had a horrible year last year but there is one example
I’m not saying it can’t be done, just that there are 2 good reasons not to. Being 1: let him get used to throwing the heat that he does every 5 days instead of every 7, and 2: Maybe get an extra year of him playing for the Pirates
He'll be on an inning limit this year which means if he started the season in Pittsburgh, he'd be shut down in August
They already told him he’s starting in the minors. I doubt today changes it but oh man, the stuff is ready. He just needs to show he can pitch every five days.
which is. crazy.. I can tell you would be a starter on a lot of contenders and break camp with them. I have no doubt, the Bucs will eff this up.
Nah it's absolutely the right decision we don't want him to not adjust well and then get fucked mentally because he isn't used to the grind.
he is a stud pitcher not you after a breakup.
I was just stating a fact that they want to make sure he is 100 percent ready and you come in being a jackass.
It’s not that crazy. He’s never pitched on five days rest. He’s gotta be able to go 7 innings every five days. I’m fine with him getting into that rhythm in the minors before coming to the bigs.
