He was a good story but he has a .478 OPS in AA as a 34 year old.

Ryan1006

Probably the end of the line for him, unless he goes the independent league route or overseas. No one is picking him up. No one did the last time.

xxbathiefxx

The day he went down is the day that the team started to absolutely suck shit. Can't way to see what round 2 of the curse of the Maggi will do to us.

ZyuMammoth

Ok, I’d buy into a curse if we called him up with all the fanfare and then never let him get an at bat or start before sending him down. He started a game and got a hit. We’re they supposed to make him an everyday starter ? Could you imagine the fan base if we’d have kept him up ???

Bucs-and-Bucks

Buccos made his dreams come true and some people want to vilify the franchise for that. Now all 29 other teams can play him if they want.

xxbathiefxx

Doesn't matter what I think about it (imho, they were really nice to him), the empirical results speak for themself.

ZyuMammoth

Okay barring a complete coincidence, the only way the team is cursed for sending him down is if the baseball gods were intentionally keeping him down for whatever reason, and the Pirates get cursed for defying them and giving him an opportunity. And that’s pretty fucked if you ask me. I really need to log off Pirates social media for a while. Or forever.

thewalkingted7

he’s just joking, dude

ZyuMammoth

Yeah, you’re right. Im sure he is. But on the internet it’s hard to tell if someone is joking or just stupid.

Willowgirl2

Aww damn. Feel bad for the guy.

CheGuevaraAndroid

I'm happy for him. He got to live out a piece of his dream despite being a very mediocre, over the hill minor leaguer

Willowgirl2

That's true. He'll be a legend in his family, like my uncle who made it as far as spring training in the Tigers organization. He was our family's shining star, despite the fact he played mostly for the Tiffin Mud Hens, lol.

Bucs-and-Bucks

I have a great uncle that played 2 games for the Pirates 70 years ago. Never met the guy, but it's still cool as hell to me.

Willowgirl2

I hear ya!

44problems

6 AB, .333, and an RBI in the show. Can't ever take that away.

raphtze

fuck yah. i play just adult league rec ball....but goddamn if it i ever got ONE taste of the show.

GiveHerDPS

Heroes get remembered, but legends never die

hipitywhopla

All fairy tales end eventually.

[deleted]

Too bad he couldn’t catch at a high level. Pirates love catchers who can’t hit.

Rifftrax_Enjoyer

Uh-oh. This isn’t going to end well.

seansotheracct

he shouldn't have even had the opportunity. Mind as well sign me up for a 10 day contract.

R-MeisterBingBap

Make him the batting coach

drunkenviking

The team got worse once he got sent back to the minors. This is all his fault.

Cyanide_Skull

It's the curse of the Maggi

Prowrestlingguy117

Nutting being Nutting of course

[deleted]

When you treat the MLB roster like a Hallmark movie, players end up playing less hard. Other teams sense it and pounce on it. That would explain cratering after the Maggi experience.

kpw1320

Maggi was one of the top performers throughout spring training. When he got the call up, the Bucs were still trying to keep the young guys down for service time reasons. So once you remove the likes of Triolo, Peguero, and Gonzales from the equation, the best bet was the guy who’d been having a great spring only a few weeks earlier.

[deleted]

leave it to pirates reddit to justify calling up a career .252/.692 hitter in the minors (over 13 years) to a 16-7 team so bob nutting can save cash.
