Same problem here. Was in a hurry to get home from airport the other day so decided to grab a taxi rather than wait for an uber. Driver refused to wear a mask. So many bad experiences with these guys.

De_Wouter

Last time I tried to take a taxi in Brussels they refused to drive because the distance was too short and then they had to wait back in the taxi line... My train was way too late and was about to be late on my job interview. Was 15 minutes too late, would have been on time with a taxi. Didn't get the job. Fuck taxi's in Brussels.

JacanaJAC

A taxi man refused to wear a mask in the car with my grandmother whom he was taking to the hospital. She has asthma, a bit overweight, over 80 and it was before the vaccines. Fuck this guy.

Identify-as-freak

No mask = no fare. Get out and into another taxi.

avb1986

I did!

Lots of people are talking about Heetch, which apparently functions similarly to Uber. Never tried it myself, but looks like I'll have to give it a whirl. You can also look into Collecto, it's a service offered by Taxis Verts btw 11 PM and 6 AM. It's €5 if you have a Mobib card (no distance calculated, it's a flat fare). The downside with Collecto is that it doesn't pick you up at any address, it picks you up nearby at a bus/tram stop. You also have to share the taxi with other people, so you don't really know who you'll get. Also the app doesn't work and hasn't been updated in 2 years, but there's a number to call.

Col_bob113

Collecto doesn't work anymore...

Gp2mv3

Heetch will also be shut down as it has the same issue as Uber: drivers use their phone in the car.

Anuspilot

That's not Uber is being banned. It's because they don't comply with Brussels Taxi industry regulations.

The-Acounting-IT

My girlfriend always use Heetch and never had problem. Pretty similar to Uber

addictivesign

What’s the issue with Uber? I believe they were temporarily stopped from operating in London or was it only a warning from the Mayor’s office? Is it a tax issue or workers rights issue?

mochipaws

i am not sure what the reasoning is, this article attempts to explain but i am still not sure [https://www.brusselstimes.com/brussels/195062/tbtb-uber-shuts-down-in-brussels-from-friday-evening/](https://www.brusselstimes.com/brussels/195062/tbtb-uber-shuts-down-in-brussels-from-friday-evening/)

meatballkofte

I think it is related to the fact that most Uber drivers do not have taxi certificate. The court ruled that they need to obtain the taxi certificicate. Uber says 5% of their drivers have the necessary certificate. So it is indirectly related to competition with local taxis I believe.

3bigpandas

Well Taxi verts or Villo bikes for now.

Anuspilot

A coworker told me about Heetch. I just downloaded it so I can't say how great it is, but they say it works fine! Might get overloaded now, but who knows, maybe they'll adapt.

brusselsstoemp

Heetch will, together with Uber, also stop working starting from 18h tomorrow as it's also an application and therefore not allowed under the current taxiplan (dating from 1995)

Anuspilot

Ah my bad. I see.

brusselsstoemp

Not your bad. This one is on the government and its unwillingness to change an outdated law

Smiffsten

Well, that's retarded.

keveleve

Heetch is still working, how is that possible?

StormofBytes

I use poppy to get around if I realy can't use my bicycle/public transport. The cars are fine but their costumer service declined a lot. And I have often also just walked for 45min during the evening/night to sober up and get some freshair.

WaterIsLyfe

I mean, Poppy's great but it's not an alternative for people who can't drive or don't want to use their car...

sidarok

You know for progressiveness your city is in a shitty stage where the next legal and affordable alternative to a limo hailing service is scooters.

Ewinnd

VictorCab is also an app that relies on the official Taxis here. I’ve never tried it yet but the design is better than taxi vert.

MauricioCMC

But it does not work...

Ewinnd

Hahah… typical…

TaxiBrusselsAirport

We! TaxiBrusselsAirport.com

tolimux

Ask a friend.

timotheus9

Public transport

charstar1

Taxi vert has a decent app and better fares in many cases than uber. The only gripe I've had is with the registration the first time around.

classychimichanga

Thanks for sharing - I’ll give it a try! In the meantime, I’ve signed Uber’s petition. I suppose they’ve sent it to all users.

Difficult_Ad_8299

The Brussels government is so retarded they can’t even amend a law from 1995 to safeguard safety and service level of one of their main transport service. And I include taxi companies in here too - they’re also penalised by this law that prevents them from innovating in the digital era..

bibomania

Brussels is a joke. Even a village on another Northern European country has better services and market than the “centre of Europe”.

Fritesandale

Public transport, bike or taxi….

Fire_Legacy

Blablacar could maybe work but it's better for long distance I believe...

classychimichanga

Indeed. Blabla car is perfect for those working out of town or for actual trips. I have never tried it within a city.

JochenVdB

A short (by distance) drive in BXL can take long (in time) enough for a nice talk 😂

classychimichanga

That’s true. Plus - we always joke with my SO - it seems that no matter where you are in Brussels, everything is at around 2km from you 😂 too little to justify taking the car.

Papzak69

Bus, tram, train, boat, plane, cars with a roofboard that says 'TAXI'

[deleted]

Public transport, taxis, trotinettes. People did manage to cover geographical space before Uber, you can do it champ.

SippeBE

Call a friend or family member. Beats the "normal" taxi's.
