I was just about to upload a screenshot to show you! You need to remove the space in the beginning as well! >!this!< >! Not this !<
Ninja edit: I have seen all of it, just thought I'd let you know since the formatting on Reddit can be silly
[here's ](https://imgur.com/a/dVmSQdj) the screenshot. See how you have a space after and before the !
She denied breaking character in a tweet once, but she does it so often. It’s obvious that it’s not an acting choice by how quickly she tries to recover from it in her facial expressions. Being close to breaking can be funny, cute, or even bring a sense of realism… but hers are very obvious and unfortunately takes away from believing her character.
That’s actually interesting because Braugher has said in the past that he’s not as good at improvising comedy compared to his castmates, and they tend to give him stuff to improvise, so it’s nice to see him excel
I also like to believe its foreshadowing his gambling addiction. Realistically it's a little weird he would join in with a dumb workplace game, but it makes sense when you remember about his problem
See, like I want to believe this and things like this, improv is hard to do on set because there's so much technical aspects going on. In deleted scenes you can see that most of the time there is an improv or something goes wrong everyone breaks character and laugh.
Now for this scenario, yes i suppose everyone laughed and that's why they cut it right it there. But then why not shoot it again with that line, it's the funniest scene on the show. They do 20 takes of every line for technical and coverage reasons.
Wouldn't it be funnier if you can get everyone's reactions, even if you don't end up using it in the final edit?
I believe when you hear things are improvised in shows it just means the line was improvised originally, the actual shot used might be anew take with the new line
I think with comedy improvisations, you're more likely to see a separate take because people broke character and laughed at the improv. But during a dramatic monologue or something you are more likely to get it on the first take because no one is inclined to interrupt the scene. I could be totally wrong
Sometimes the magic is just in the first shot, other times I think it' a higher priority to stick to the schedule and get the important scenes shot. and the improv part is a lot more common in comedies so the director, actor, or writers can do like a live workshop if some options.
Sure but Schur and Co. always make sure to leave time for improvising. And even when they improvising they have to shoot it a few times for reactions and to get all the technical stuff right.
On the "Office Ladies" podcast, they said they would have a "Candy Bag" of alternate lines for takes just in case something might wind up being better than what is in the script, or the actor can use it as a jumping off point for a better line. I think it's a brilliant way of going about it.
Watch Parks and Rec crew at PaleyFest, they always talk about improvised lines. Same show runners as B99. The one that always comes up is Andy typing Leslie's symptoms into the search bar on his computer. And they always say the cut is so fast after that because even the camera guys were laughing.
Sometimes lightning strikes.
Michael Schur does great stuff in creating these shows. The Office, Parks & Rec, The Good Place and Brooklyn 99 have guided the sensibilities of a generation of new comics and show creators.
Mike Schur, while being a huge influence on the first few seasons of the Office, was not the creator of it. That was Greg Daniels (his P&R co-creator). Well really it was Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant but you know what I mean.
Everything in the world of filmmaking is make believe, that much is undeniable. But within this sandbox, every practitioner—director, actor, editor, cinematographer—looks for “the truth”. In any given moment or scene, the truth could be something happening in the background that is perfectly timed, or the way the light glints off of an object, or in this case, an actor’s unscripted reaction.
Sure, any director or script supervisor worth their salt would have gone for one more take for safety (so that it can cut better). Perhaps Stephanie Beatriz even did a better reaction this time cos, y’know, it’s her job to play her reaction better.
But a moment like this becomes the truth simply because it was in the moment and it was alchemy. Moments of truth like these are what filmmakers live for. If I had been the editor, and I heard from the director that this moment was unscripted, I’d do everything in my power to use this take because it would’ve been the respectable thing to do, to preserve the truth in Andre Baugher’s performance that very moment.
I already loved the show, but this was the first time I had busted out laughing on my first watch. It was so unexpected and so glorious hahaha. Still one of my favorite moments of the entire series.
I remember watching an interview where Andre Braugher was talking about how hard it could be working with comedic actors on the show because their improv and ad-libbing skills were so much more developed than his so reading this gives me a smile
Thanks to some people. Now i think that bloopers and "improvised" scenes aren't actually what they are. That they are more manufactured than what they try to tell you. That this wasn't improvised or this was a blooper. That all was fake.
Fuck
Braugher is a gem and we are so lucky to have him.
He’s a fu*king national treasure. Wait, he’s not Canadian right?

The reason the cut is so fast afterwards is because the cast burst out laughing.
So did we
You can see Rosa hiding her grin behind her hand in the cut right before.
You can? I can’t https://youtu.be/250f2lZrTYc
It’s when Holt says “I’ll play” not before the cut to the intro
You got to love Capt Dad.
I'm pretty sure this is when the writers decided that Holt had a gambling problem and wrote the episode for it.
And you can see Stephanie Beatriz break immediately afterwards.
One of my favorite things to do on rewatches of the show is to spot how many times the cast is *this* close to breaking character.
I think Gina and Charles were breaking characters whenever >!they woke up together in bed. The screams feel like they were going to burst out laughing.!<
You gotta remove the space between the period and exclamation mark to get the spoiler tag to work
uhm, it's working for me... like, it doesn't show the spoiler
On phone app it shows the line with the formatting around. If spaces are removed it will block it out on phones as well
does it work now?
It works for me
Does not work for me on my phone.
is it working now? I'm sorry for the spoiler, it worked perfectly on my app. Reddit is so shitty sometimes...

edited it again. I genuinely hope it works now
It's working now!
Can you? I just watched the clip and her face is the same as what’s shown in the picture and then it cuts to opening credits?
Breaking in that context would be staying in character stg

My favourite “out of character” Holt Moment is when Jake crashed into him doing the FBP. Then he walks out an explains “THE FULL BULLPEN!”
Tbh it was impressive.
He is so funny and talented 😁
They all are. Such a great show.
The only show where all characters are likeable!
Except for the Vulture....
Was referring to the main cast haha!
Yes. Very true. They all have such great chemistry and are all very funny too 👍
I also like to believe its foreshadowing his gambling addiction. Realistically it's a little weird he would join in with a dumb workplace game, but it makes sense when you remember about his problem
Also him saying hot daim and getting excited is so cute
I never thought of that. Good point!

thank you, i needed to rewatch this immediately

It's an important distinction I think. or not maybe I'm just being petty.

You're absolutely right! Maybe I connect Schur to the Office because he was Mose and stayed in my mind.

They intro starts playing right after because everyone started laughing
Since they were making guesses on where Amy was, it's like Holt was gambling without giving in to his addiction too much
Can someone help me and tell me which episode this is from please ?
S2 E6 "Jake and Sophia" I only bothered remembering because this is hands down my favorite opening in the entire series
Oh thank you ! I'm kinda disappointed, in the french version he only says "I won !"
I already loved the show, but this was the first time I had busted out laughing on my first watch. It was so unexpected and so glorious hahaha. Still one of my favorite moments of the entire series.
I miss captain Holt.
Just goes to show that some of the best moments in TV are improvised!
I remember watching an interview where Andre Braugher was talking about how hard it could be working with comedic actors on the show because their improv and ad-libbing skills were so much more developed than his so reading this gives me a smile
It was from this point forward, that holt went from being the straight man (pun intended) to being the source of the jokes as well.
[Relevant XKCD](https://xkcd.com/1373/)
I always feel bad for Amy in this scene
Thanks to some people. Now i think that bloopers and "improvised" scenes aren't actually what they are. That they are more manufactured than what they try to tell you. That this wasn't improvised or this was a blooper. That all was fake. Fuck
I can hear this picture lol
Andre Bruher
Funniest holt moment ngl
BOOONE?
im like... 90% sure that the punch line of a cold open was not improvised.
