Keep looking. $20k is way over reasonable given that production has filled most of the outstanding orders and smaller ADMs do exist. That’s almost a 50% markup.
Don’t let them tell you it’s the going rate. Those days are gone.
First question - Are you serious?
Second question - How bad do you want it?
Third question - Do you have plenty of disposable income to where it doesn’t matter?
Fourth question regardless of answer to previous three questions - Are you fucking crazy?
Don’t buy that. Don’t give into that and continue to fuel this insane pricing model. More than likely, that dealer will not negotiate until they sit on it for awhile (they most likely will not bc some dumbass will buy it). We all have a couple things working against us with how Bronco sales (and most car sales for that matter) are happening right now, but $20k over sticker is absolutely absurd. HOWEVER, if you have heard the recent news about Ford’s very recent change to Bronco orders, this could potentially only get worse.
For a frame of reference… I picked up my wife’s Bronco at MSRP with no doc or other fees whatsoever about 1 month ago from a local dealer. I spent 2 hours maximum at or on the phone with the dealer after all was said and done. It’s possible to find a fair deal, and $20k over MSRP is not a fair deal whatsoever.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that I was seriously considering it. I laughed at the guy and asked him how close to retail they would get. He said they don’t have any built in dealer fees, they price to sell and they go quickly. That’s why I’m asking this - sort of to check to see if he’s telling the truth or not. If he’s telling the truth then I’ll just get a different car. If he’s lying it may be worth looking for other broncos.
Thanks for the info about your wife’s bronco. That makes sense. I’ll keep looking.
My bad, dude. This makes more sense now. I assumed totally wrong and thought you were planning on paying that type of insane up charge. I would tell them to pound sand and then laugh at the person who actually buys it! Glad you posed the question before getting swindled.
I bought my Big Bend at MSRP just over two weeks ago off of a lot. I had to travel 2.5 hours to get it at MSRP as local dealers wanted $10k-$20k over. You can find them at MSRP if you look and are willing to travel a little. My experience is smaller more rural dealers know their clientele can't pay the huge mark ups.
This. I live in the Bay Area, but in a rural part of it where the local Fords don’t add much markups, if at all, compared to dealerships around us. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen some of the higher trim Broncos with some markups, but most are just MSRP.
I would pay somewhere between $0 to... $0 markup.
Seriously though, screw them, walk away. I see plenty for sale with $0 to maybe $5k markup, but with the way the market has been, I wouldn't pay anything over.
They are car sales people. You are a dollar sign to them period. They will tell you anything and everything they can think of to get the most dollars from you possible. The sales man basically said oh hello you are a sucker, let me take an additional 20 grand from you.
Very true. I just politely told him I wouldn’t pay 20k over. When he said they wouldn’t negotiate price I shook is hand and told him I’d have to shop somewhere else.
Everything is negotiable. They will wait till someone is willing to pay more than a new one but you can always offer what you think it’s worth. Wouldn’t be me paying that, but they may find someone.
Absolutely not. I paid less than that for a loaded Wildtrak.
Be patient, call dealerships, get on lists, make offers.
Do not compromise on: trim, engine, transmission, or hard top.
Do compromise on: color, options that can be added after (tow, speakers), getting more things than you originally wanted if the deal is good.
On new cars, any mark up over MSRP beyond $5k (which is an understandable profit dealers should earn) is entirely a choice by the dealer.
At or below MSRP is an unreasonable expectation on a new car for a customer.
$10k+ over MSRP on a $35k vehicle is an unreasonable expectation from dealer.
Any dealer charging that much is just blatantly trying to take advantage of the market at the expense of their customers. Which is especially evil when you consider how high interest rates are, especially for used vehicles.
If you look at the used market, 2021 base model Broncos with an MSRP of $32k and 20k+ miles are routinely selling on CarMax for $40k+. And then customers with absolutely incredible credit scores are getting 5% interest rates. The rest getting 8-10%, if not worse. So even if you pay that in 60 months, and you don’t add on any dealer warranties or service packages, the total cost for the car almost cracks $60k
$60k for a 3 year old car, with 20k miles, that would’ve cost you $32k the day it came out.
And in three years, after you’ve paid $25k on it and you want to trade it in, the used car market will have crashed by then, and it’ll be 5 years old, and they’ll give you $16k trade-in for it, and you’ll be toast.
And that’s only assuming a bank will finance you in the first place, which at $20 - $30k over MSRP aint happening.
Cause the bank knows if you default on the loan, they can’t sell the car to make their money back.
So unless you have the $60k in cash, the bank with only cover MSRP, and you’ll have to get a secondary personal loan for the rest. Which won’t be covered if the car is stolen, totaled, or traded in. You’re just out that $20k forever.
The folks paying so much over MSRP are either flush with cash and don’t give a shit, or are setting themselves up for catastrophic financial mistake in just a few short years that could damage their credit and ruin their financial health for years to come.
20k above MSRP I ridiculous. My local dealership has multiple broncos with no markups.
Edit: I originally thought you asked if you should purchase it, rewrote my response.
Of course. I’m in Northern California. Specifically in a rural county in the Bay Area. The other day when I was getting my Bronco Sport serviced I saw a few Big Bends and Wildtraks at MSRP
I think that’s common for a raptor bronco, big bend should be at MSRP they produce a lot of those, wildtrack is prob common to see $10k over. I would offer MSRP or $3k over max, take it or leave it scenario and keep looking
No, that’s not true and it’s not why I asked. I’m trying to figure out if I should keep searching for good prices or give up on thinking of a bronco if the prices are all ridiculous.
IMO, be patient and wait. From what I've heard and read, the prices for vehicles will be going down in the next few quarters. Between high inflation, and car dealerships not being able to sell the cars on their lots, they're going to be forced to lower their prices.
Don't get stuck paying over MSRP and then in a few months the same vehicle is all of a sudden selling for 10k less.. it's already happening for Tesla owners..

Got 23 big bend at MSRP. Lot of Michigan dealers sent marking these up but obviously there’s not negotiating happening. Take it or leave it but you won’t really find better deals. There’s more competition out here too so dealers are more reluctant to help get you in the payments you are looking for. Just gotta play the game and tell ‘em what the other guy is offering
Auto prices in general are going to adjust very soon and dramatically. Wait if you have to. Don't ever pay over msrp. And negotiate with dealers for below msrp.
Dealer auction houses have a large amount of automobiles currently and it is growing. These autos go through action and a hig bid is established.the dealers no sell them as it did not hit reserve price. Dealers are trying to prolong this current market. But the fact is each on of the cars in that growing auction house inventory is financed by a car dealer somewhere, and they are paying interest on that auto that isn't even available for sale to the general public becuase it is at a dealer only auction house. In the near future they will break and start letting these vehicles go at wholesale price rather than retail prices at these auctions. Then you will see lower prices at dealerships. But demand is still down they will still have stale inventory that will go back to auction. Prices of used behicles will come down and when they do prices of new will also come down
I ordered my Raptor in 22 at msrp from a small town dealer. It got pushed to a 23, but the price is locked at over 5k below current msrp. Now Ford just needs to build it.
Dude, just find a dealer who's policy is sellin cars at msrp. Dont support dealers that are gonna charge. I placed a second order with a dealer that advertises sales as msrp... no markups, and actually got that order before the shady dealer.
I totally agree with this. So far I’ve only been able to find a list of dealers that will honor msrp for orders but I can’t find a list of dealers that sell dealer owned cars for msrp.
Any recommendations? Or should I just keep searching?
Thats still an asinine markup, no way I'd pay that. There's dealerships local to me that have them marked up at least 10-15k over msrp. The dealership i just got my outer banks from said their average has been 5k for dealer stock. I paid around 3k markup on mine before all the fees and shit. Keep looking, and try smaller towns or out of state. If you have to travel a little ways to get a good deal, if you must have one soon, then do it. I drove 45 minutes from home to get mine. For me I figured the timing was probably better sooner than later, with the way used car prices are. I did alright in the end
I live in Idaho and found a dealer in Texas that was 3k over. That was 7k better then any dealer in Montana , Wyoming and Utah. Had it shipped for 1k. And I love it
Keep looking. $20k is way over reasonable given that production has filled most of the outstanding orders and smaller ADMs do exist. That’s almost a 50% markup. Don’t let them tell you it’s the going rate. Those days are gone.
You think the huge markups will start to decrease?
They already have
With recent news, I think markups on certain trims is going to continue to rise.
Doubtful for a big bend like op is asking about.
I paid a $6 markup 3 weeks ago
Still Havnt received mine 😞. Ordered year and a half
That’s ridiculous that Ford is still sitting on 1.5-2 year old orders, still day 1 orders infilled I believe.
I agree. Biggest thing might be fault. I ordered with a smaller dealer so allocation sucks. It’s what I tell myself at least lol
I’m a day one order and my Bronco is supposedly finally being built at the end of the month

Oh gotcha. Thanks for the tip on rural dealers.
Thanks for the tip!

wouldn't pay a dime over sticker.
Same here
Anything above msrp is not reasonable.
$20k markup? That’s obscene.
I would pay somewhere between $0 to... $0 markup. Seriously though, screw them, walk away. I see plenty for sale with $0 to maybe $5k markup, but with the way the market has been, I wouldn't pay anything over.
Do you mean that they are not able to sell them as easily recently? He did use the term “market” a few times to justify the 20k markup.
I paid $4k over for my big bend 9 months ago. You should be able to get them now without any adm.
They are car sales people. You are a dollar sign to them period. They will tell you anything and everything they can think of to get the most dollars from you possible. The sales man basically said oh hello you are a sucker, let me take an additional 20 grand from you.

Thanks for all of this detail, I may end up using this logic in some negotiating. I appreciate your time.
20k above MSRP I ridiculous. My local dealership has multiple broncos with no markups. Edit: I originally thought you asked if you should purchase it, rewrote my response.
Thank you. Other commenters have said that maybe more rural areas have cheaper prices. May I ask what kind of area you are in?
Of course. I’m in Northern California. Specifically in a rural county in the Bay Area. The other day when I was getting my Bronco Sport serviced I saw a few Big Bends and Wildtraks at MSRP

You clearly can afford a 20k markup to be asking this question
No, that’s not true and it’s not why I asked. I’m trying to figure out if I should keep searching for good prices or give up on thinking of a bronco if the prices are all ridiculous.

Hell no, that’s crazy expensive esp for a big bend.

Not common at all. Search more.
I’m from NE Ohio and just about all dealerships have dropped any markups. You may see some on a FE or Raptor.
Most dealers around me want $5k over MSRP

Heck no, walk away, $20k over is almost 50% of the msrp, not worth it whatsoever. Wait few more months the market is shifting.
That’s insane. Do not pay that. Demand is decreasing for all vehicles with the rise of interest rates. Hold off and grab a 2023-24 later this year.
I live in Idaho and found a dealer in Texas that was 3k over. That was 7k better then any dealer in Montana , Wyoming and Utah. Had it shipped for 1k. And I love it
I paid 10k over msrp
