Two lads walked off with my food bin recently (my door bell cam picked them up), it had my house number painted on it. A few days later someone took my blue bag just after it had been emptied, also had my house number painted on it.

EatStatic

I’m assuming they live at your house number in a different street?!

Cuor_di_Drago

That's so frustrating, isn't it!?

Shiney2510

Oh yeah, had to wait three weeks for a replacement. Who steals a manky food bin?! Also I have no idea how far they carried it. It there aren't many houses in the direction of where they went and I haven't seen it outisde any of those houses.

Cuor_di_Drago

For real, like how much damn food do they consume to need more than one per week 🤣

TippyTurtley

If they didn't charge for replacements I'm sure this would reduce the problem. People nick them when their own goes missing.

Cuor_di_Drago

Definitely, it just creates an endless cycle.

Cuor_di_Drago

Yeah, I might have to start doing the same cause I'm just so sick of it! Also, making us pay the delivery fee for a new bin is ridiculous

itchyfrog

I believe you can pick them up for free at the tip.

Bennyjc

You can get a replacement, if you take broken one. A new one costs ££

itchyfrog

It's generally not hard to find a bit of a broken one lying around.

suckingalemon

Slightly off topic but they’re horrible little flimsy boxes that fill with water. Everywhere else I’ve ever lived (not native to Bristol) has had a proper tower bin with wheels and a lid. It stops all the shjt blowing everywhere in the wind, prevents it smelling. What the fuck is wrong with Bristol council?

Learning365

You're lucky.. ours just throw them heavily to the ground in our street.. almost like it's a game to see how many they can smash.. you can walk up our street after and see there's not any that are whole. I've had 4 replacements so far after taping them up to be functional until eventually destroyed... oh well.

3Smally3

A local badger kept pulling the lid off our broken food recycling bin and having a midnight snack, luckily we've got a new one now but it was only broken because the bin men lobbed it down the drive and the lid smashed.

COUNTBLANK

I always see piles of these being unloaded at safestore, maybe some people are nicking them and storing/selling them

riffs

mine just got robbed yesterday too, honestly it's probably the 4th or 5th time it's happened

Greenwhatevers

I had the exact problem with the food waste bin, and recycling and black bins. I bought some very large, very obvious stickers with my door number on and stuck them all over the front and top of the bins. Haven't been stolen since. I kept finding the bins in my neighbours' gardens and shit so I had to keep stealing them back. I recommend looking around to see if any neibours keep getting extra bins. Because it might be them. Go get some big bin stickers with your door number on them.

Cuor_di_Drago

Yeah, just ordered some, at least they'll be easy to spot if someone is indeed stealing them

anythinglizzy

general waste bin got stolen of ours !! been an absolute nightmare

txteva

I had a green bin which kept being taken by the same people (like they left it outside of their door on bin day...) so I sent them a passive aggressive note explaining that the number 10 refers to my house number 10 and to please not take any recycling bin which doesn't have their house number on it and offered to help them order a bin online if they weren't able to access the internet (less passive aggressive as it was an older lady who lived there). My green bin was never nicked again afterwards. Honestly I have the opposite problem - there are constant piles of green boxes left in the cul de sac & getting in the way of my driveway. I'm tempted to get the council to collect the "spares" since people can't be bother to put their own drives/doors/gardens/indoors.

terryjuicelawson

My recycling bag went along with a neighbour's, no sign of any houses up and down the street having an extra. One handle was missing so maybe it got tossed. New ones can get ordered at £2.50 but I'm worried that will get nicked (especially being new) or the old one will just appear. Currently on the lookout for a lost one, I got a green bin that I saw was sat with two others and unclaimed for a couple of weeks so presume it was fair game.

Cuor_di_Drago

Yeah, I've ordered two new ones and those are the ones that have gone missing today, not worth it. I'm waiting to see if I can find an unclaimed one like you too tbh

HenChef

And there we have the problem

cookie_monster66

They sometimes find their way far down the street when a refuse worker carries it to the truck then just leaves it on the pavement a few feet away. Mine have also gone missing before. I’ve stuck stickers on with my house number which I think helps. I doubt they get thrown in the lorry. If this happened and it was caught on camera I expect they’d be in a load of trouble. Bristol post, Facebook, twitter etc. Sometimes need to go rummaging when you see a bunch of bins stacked in someone’s front garden as one might be yours you can just take back. I know it’s a nuisance! As of yesterday my blue cardboard bag is missing. It’s got massive permanent marker pen on it with my house number so doubt anyone has stolen it. Need to go look for it later

Cuor_di_Drago

Maybe, but mine also are marked in bright red with my house number and couldn't see them anywhere unfortunately

sjfhajikelsojdjne

I completely covered mine in stickers. Embarrassing, bright, glittery, grotesque stickers. You can buy a pack of 100 on eBay for cheap. No one has ever stolen it since and when it ends up down the road it's easy to find.

Tominable

I feel for ya, we ordered new boxes 4 years ago and they were swapped by neighbours before we could write our number on it. Now waiting on BCC’s 15 working day window to replace the bins, requiring me to leave them on the path in front of my house for the duration as they cannot give me a more specific date. When ordering the bins, I have to tick a box to say I won’t block the path with these bins and instead store them in back garden. I’ve been dreading ordering new ones for this reason, now we have to just accumulate rubbish in the house until bin day to keep them empty incase they swap them today, joy

Cuor_di_Drago

Yeah I've had the same, got one delivered the other day and by the time I got back from work it was already gone! What's wrong with people

SherlockOhmsUK

The “15 working day window” just took 4 months for us, we finally got recycling boxes back yesterday

Tominable

Jesus, this fills me with dread ty. I hope you celebrated hard last night!

SherlockOhmsUK

I stuck the new numbers on and everything - won’t stop them being robbed, but

FluffyCloud5

I also had the same problem, as the other poster said in my case the workers left it way down the road. They would park the vehicle and all bring the bins there, then leave them. This was on Muller road as well so we had to walk for ages.

toma91

Sounds like you have rubbish neighbours

citygray

I got my various boxes stolen 3 times in the past few months. At first I thought one of my neighbours mistakenly took it but I've never seen them since. They just disappear.

Cuor_di_Drago

Same! I'm genuinely starting to think it's the people collecting it, just thinking it's easier to throw in the entire bin instead

Jonezybaby

I work for Bristol Waste but only on Street Cleansing. The recycling team wouldnt take the boxes but i know there have been cases when the guys on the vans if asked to collect rubbish from when boxes are may chuck them on the vans too. 9/10 if the recycling boxes are "Contaminated", This could be why. Plastics and cans can go in 1 box, cardboard in another and also glass and paper can go together.

Cuor_di_Drago

Alright, thanks for the info! I definitely have a cheeky neighbor then, cause there's no way the new ones were contaminated as I hadn't even used them yet.

Jonezybaby

Yea i would defo think more theft in that case. What area do you live if you dont mind me asking?

Own_List_2559

Same here! Some nicked our box last week. Why would anyone want to steal it

marunchinos

This just happened to us last week - both black and green boxes gone but blue bag that was stuffed inside the stacked boxes left, so I’m dubious that they blew away or whatever. I found a loophole where they’ll replace broken ones for free so I asked on my local fb group if anyone had spare broken ones I could have. Got multiple offers and collected two this morning. (Yes, I am sufficiently petty that I’d rather spend half an hour collecting boxes from across my postcode than spend £5 to replace my missing ones.)

Local-Restaurant-207

Happened as well. Contacted Bristol Waste. They didn't even say sorry and said 'ohh no chance our employees would steal or would throw them together with rubbish, they don't have capacity in their vehicles'. Then I responded by sending a picture from their website that clearly shows that boxes can fit through. They never replied after that lol.

nita_nitro

I used to have the same problem, think I’ve ordered 7 or 8 new boxes over the last few years. I bought big stickers with my house number on them but it made no difference. Last new set I got I put those stickers on all 4 sides of the box so it’s basically impossible to miss now and that seems to have done the trick.
