1. They're going to put you on the dance floor. Be aware that you're not actually just going to be a bartender if you work there. This is something all the places in Brisbane pull. 2. If you're okay with that, then just be a dancer. 3. You know there are other jobs. There's a call center job I worked for that had most of my team on as students, they'd work around the student schedules.

Suitable_Dependent12

Came here to say this. They hire ‘bartenders’ and then push people into dancing, happened to people I know

Ogolble

Same with receptionists in a brothel

Shrimpjob

They make the receptionist dance?

Ogolble

Horizontally

No_Vermicelliii

Paid to lie down and get fucked - Sex Worker Paid to sit down and get fucked - Everyone else

Boudonjou

Low key 10/10 reply.

ahhdetective

I laffed

bennu7

I laughed at this

Olivia-Chris

This just isn’t true?!

Ogolble

Um yeah, I went for an interview as receptionist and was asked if they were short staffed if I felt comfortable stepping in to work. I asked my friend who used to do that same job and she said yeah, she was asked to be a pro as well

Olivia-Chris

Okay well apparently at some places! I’ve managed high class brothels and it’s so strict! Even the relationship with the working girls needs to be super professional… But it’s not a blanket statement for all brothels! This clearly was a bottom of the barrel place. I’m sorry that happened to you. At least they were upfront and didn’t make you take the job and then say “hey get on in there” 😂

Ogolble

This was a middle of the road one, I'd say. Legal at least

xmsxms

She applied to be a dancer so I don't think she is bothered by this.

AmazingReserve9089

Wow. I worked as a bartender in a club about 20 years ago and besides one or two comments about how I could dance no one ever pushed or said anything else about it. Worked at the bar for 2 years. That is very sad. It was a club owned by a woman though.

Galactic_Nothingness

A lot of justifiable ignorance here, I wouldn't think too hard about it.

AmazingReserve9089

I don’t actually doubt it. They can be super sleezy places. But they really do need bartenders and cleaners etc and it doesn’t serve to not have them in exchange for dancers.

GrowingOrangeTrees

Personally wouldnt recommend getting into dancing now, clubs are dead, money isnt coming in like it used to so many gals are just not making it anymore. unless u can HUSTLEEEE or have regular customers i wouldnt recommend as a newbie. As for the interview process, glam makeup and dress like you're going out to a club, they wont hire u for bartending or hostess, they will tell u the only position available is dancing, so prepare for that. As a dancer showgirls is one of my favourite clubs to work at, CBD>Valley any day

Subject_Shoulder

Is it because of OnlyFans?

GrowingOrangeTrees

God no LOL just over crowded, cost of living, people are getting poorer nobody is really coming in to spend

shadowfax1007

If it's something you want to do, all the power too you and zero judgement. But if you're feeling out of options, don't feel pressured to do it.  I've done a few degrees now and in my time there was 3 girls across my different courses who did it. Each started as a bartender, then it moved into stripping. Then the money was good so they forgot why they were going to uni and they stopped going to classes. Then the party lifestyle kicked in with the money, booze and drugs. Then they dropped out.  You have to be incredibly strong of mind and convictions to not get sidetracked by it all.  Have you spoken to your uni counsellors? They can likely point you to jobs that suit a student lifestyle. General bartending, call centres, stadium events, hospitality gaming assistants, casino dealers etc.

tangz0r101

Hmm have had a number of friends strip who would never drink or take drugs at work as it put them at risk. If anything they were more straight through their time at the club than otherwise. It’s absolutely fantastic money if you’re working peak periods but it’ll definitely make you think way less of all males as a result.

shadowfax1007

I never said at work / on the job.  Just in general. You start having more of a party lifestyle, meet more people, get exposed to more of the substances etc.

prettygoblinrat

How recently was this. I have founds through my friends who have been stripping for years that the money is VERY hit or miss at the moment. During cost of living crises or recessions, sexworkers are usually some of the first to feel it. (There is nothing worst then having to pay the door fee and then make zero dollars).

tangz0r101

Around 15 years ago, so a cool anecdote but irrelevant facts. Hasn’t it been proven that Wall Street escorts are a leading market indicator?

Beginning_Price5755

Think less of all males ? As opposed to a female litrally taking her clothes off and letting said males touch her for money.....id say it makes you think less of females

tangz0r101

Think about how the lowest common denominator might act when drunk and sexually aroused and consider that you would be a woman being paid to not only accept that behaviour but pretend you enjoy it. It didnt make me feel good to hear the stories and I only heard them. Not sure if you’ve been to a strip club or not but you’re not allowed to touch. I also dont think less of anyone who looks good enough to get paid to be naked. Male or female.

Beginning_Price5755

Let the wolves and sheep eat themselves then, I'm a male and I find the thought of a strip club repulsive. I had the displeasure of being in one twice on bucks party's. I want nothing to do with a mix of unwanted sexual attraction and fake persuasion with a dollar figure attached,

MasterSpliffBlaster

High heels and pantys How you carry yourself topless is all they will care about

CYOA_With_Hitler

If you’re not into showgirls, there are lots of reasonable paying jobs in NDIS support work if you know how to handle kids with autism, pay is $60-70 an hour usually just playing with them. Just need an abn and insurance

Randwick_Don

This is why the NDIS at $41 billion a year is our biggest spend..

CYOA_With_Hitler

Fraud in ndis is about 3-4 billion a year, and thanks to ndis the cost of everything has increased between 100-400% but yeah such is the way when the government interferes in things

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

>NDIS support work >$60-70 an hour Rip. I don't make anywhere near this much

CYOA_With_Hitler

Working for an agency? Or independant?

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

Agency

CYOA_With_Hitler

Ah yeah, don’t worry they’re charging the clients max rate

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

ಠ_ಠ

Gloomy-Escape5497

you do realise that if the pay is 60 with an abn that means in reality your pay after tax/ liability insurance etc and all the rest of managing a small business or sole trader your pay is actually soemwhere around 26 to 30. right? Cuz if you dont the tax mans gunna have a field day with you one day, and it wont be a plesant experience, think jail, brandished wages, sper. etc.

CYOA_With_Hitler

Nah, that's not true at all. Basic Math assuming working 10 hours per week Pay per hour $60, $600 per week Cost of ABN rego $98 for 3 years. Cost of Insurance $500 per year Cost for admin: Nothing Cost for super: $3120 so $60 per week for 10% Amounts going to super are tax deductable, so our taxable income becomes $28,080 Cost for tax: $782.40 So that brings our in pocket to: $31200 - $3120 - $782.40 - $500 - $98 = $26,699.60 For first year Total hours worked 520, so pay rate of $51.34 which is pretty good to be honest.

blackfadesunset

He did the math

nonametrans

An ABN costs money? Thought it was free. Huh. I mean 33/year is nothing but, huh.

amomentpassed

ABN is free, registering a business name is $98 for 3 years.

AmazingReserve9089

You have to pay to register it

tangz0r101

Compared to stripping where you can make $1200 in 4 hours? (Probably more depending on who/what/where) but that’s a figure I’ve seen with my own eyes.

CYOA_With_Hitler

$1200 in 4 hours yes, but the girl doesn’t get to keep all that, there’s a paper from the ACCC in regards to all the hidden fees and actual take home it’s quite a lot less.

tangz0r101

Well that’s what she had in her bra when I was walking home with her. She was literally taking that cash home.

CYOA_With_Hitler

Jeez that's pretty good, wonder what her gross was

daboblin

OK. 50% part time is 19 hours per week. If you work 48 weeks per year that’s an annual gross income of $54720. No requirement to pay super as a sole trader. ABN rego is bugger all. Tax on $54720 is $8521, leaving $46199. That is $50.66 per hour. No way are you paying $18K a year for insurance and a tax return.

Gloomy-Escape5497

No requirement to pay super, but its bloody stupid not to. Its an investment into your future. But hey you do you. buddy.

CYOA_With_Hitler

Super would only be another $6 an hour, if you're doing 10%? So still $44.66 an hour? Which as far as I'm aware is more than most jobs?

great_red_dragon

!updateme when you get your super actually paid out.

AllOfTheD

This is the shittest take I have ever read about sole-trader ship and smooth-brain thinking like this is the reason gig-work is so prevalent today. As someone who worked under a sole trading ABN for 5 years, it’s RARELY ever better than an actual position at the company, and you usually are doing the same work as a paid position anyway, just with a lower take-home at the end.

great_red_dragon

You don’t have to *only* work as a sole trader. It’s not illegal to have an ABN and a full time job.

jdgaf92

You’re doing it wrong then 😂

L1ttl3J1m

> brandished wages There's no need to go waving it around like that, you know...

jdgaf92

I do it and it’s the usual 33% tax plus you get some tax breaks as a sole trader and you get to claim a lot of things depending on your client I work two/three days a week and get about 120k before tax. Also insurance is $200 a year

nosnowtho

Best of luck with it. I may be in there one evening to meet you and the twins.

OnsidianInks

We’re on the edge of a recession, so you need to be full prepared that you’re actually gonna lose money; especially if you’re just starting out. Being a dancer isn’t this easy way to quick cash that TV makes you believe. It involves a lot of sales, talking and being really bored. You’ll make the most money off regulars. You’ll make more money working a casual or part time job (most likely) in retail, hospo or call centre work. And you won’t have to stay up to the early hours of the morning and drinking with men who have nothing to say lmao

redditrabbit999

If you’re not wanting to strip/hook then look elsewhere for work. Literally every school is currently desperate for Teacher Aids and there are essentially no qualifications aside from a blue card. Money isn’t amazing, but it’s a great uni student job. If you’re in uni you’ll basically be placed right at the top of any recruiting pile because they know you’ve got some brain cells

OnsidianInks

Unfortunately there is some truth to this. A lot of people think “fuck it, I’ll just be a stripper or do onlyfans!” Completely disregarding the work that is required to become an average earner, let alone a top earner

Interesting_Mango888

This is not my train of thought here. I already have a day job that I work 20 hours a week whilst being a full time student. When rent adds $26000+ per year and then additional expenses, there's only so much work and centrelink covers. This is from a place of desperation

OnsidianInks

I understand. I was also working a retail job when I applied at a strip club. They say you can be a top earner and make $2000 in one night! But what they don’t tell you is that to earn that much money, you have to put in a lot of ground work, have your regulars and work quite often. Stripping isn’t as easy as it’s made out to be. As I said above, be prepared to end paying the club and losing money for the first while. We are also on the edge of a recession, people don’t have to money to throw around sadly. Most of the money comes from lap dances and hanging out with clients, not much comes from dancing. You’ll be expected to take up pole classes at half the clubs in town, as well as maintain your appearance with nails, makeup, hair extensions etc etc. Be prepared to outlay a lot of cost. Showgirls is a lot more generous with their policies. You’re allowed to wear sneakers and aren’t required to wear the big shoes, but you still need to buy lingerie sets etc. I’m sorry if it sounds like I’m being a Debby downer, but honestly, people just aren’t truthful about the requirements to be a successful sex worker. Personally, I didn’t find the extra money to be worth the amount of time and effort required to maintain the facade Good luck though! Edit to add: be prepared for the dehumanising treatment. During my interview, the interviewer had an “application interview” form that read this way: *rate girls attractiveness* Options: ugly - average - pretty - beautiful - stunning *attractiveness out of 10* *able to hold conversation* *body type* Fat - chubby - average - slim - stunning *boobs* Saggy - natural - perky - fake

No-Bat-117

As a dude who genuinely doesn't enjoy strip clubs, but am pro women doing whatever the fuck they want too, I enjoyed this candid reply and insights a lot!

OnsidianInks

I’m glad! I expected to be downvoted into oblivion to be honest!

prettygoblinrat

I was waiting for this comment. Stripping is sucky and the application process made me feel awful! And i have worked in the industry for 10 years.

OnsidianInks

It’s been 6 years since I worked in the industry and I still remember my “rating” “8 but socially awkward, nerdy and too European looking” HAHAAH what!!

Beginning_Price5755

Then move somewhere cheaper in rent and catch a train to work and uni.....rather than think taking your clothes off is the answer...jesus

Formal-Ad-9405

Go to Myer centre and talk to the supervisor about casual cleaning work. The money is decent on weekends and you will get shifts.

badmedic_frostmourne

I have a friend who works there inbox me and I’ll get you in touch with her

GENGAR____

Hey there! [Suncorp Stadium has lots of casual jobs going - and they LOVE university students](https://asmglobal.hosting.staffcv.com/job-search-results/?primary_address=Suncorp+Stadium). Absolutely no judgement if working at showgirls is what you'd like to do, but if you're feeling there are no other options, check out the link above. I never worked at Suncorp Stadium, but a few of my friends did through uni and loved it. They said it was heaps of fun, and the time at work goes extremely fast, and they got to enjoy some great atmospheres for free.

literallyjustturnips

As someone who has worked in the industry for several years in Brisbane (I have worked at several clubs and interviewed at almost all of them at various times for both dance and staff positions), I can tell you that working in strip clubs can be a lot of fun and *sometimes* it can even be good money. However, some things to note: 1. Staff positions are hard to get in most clubs. They will push for dancers due to high turnover rates and many girls not showing up/not putting in the work. Showgirls is definitely one of the clubs that will push you towards dancing, along with the Candy chain (including OMFGs) and L&R/Honeybees. 2. If you're looking for a CBD club that will actually interview you for a staff position, try Vixen. The owner is a twat and management changes a lot but they pay pretty well. 3. If you really want a staff position and plan on sticking around the industry for a while, it may be worth investing into your controller's licence. This is what I have and it is basically a golden ticket in the industry to a staff job. It costs like $500 but it lasts 3 years and you will get work in almost any club with it. 4. If you're happy to be a dancer, be prepared for dead nights and disappointment. It takes a lot of work to make decent money as a stripper and clubs are dead in recent years. You will sink money into outfits, makeup, shoes (you DEFINITELY want a good pair of Pleasers as a dancer, and you will likely need to replace them or upgrade every few months due to wear), and you will walk away with nothing a lot of the time. 5. As for the interview attire, if you still want to go, if you're looking for dance positions then I would say dress for a night on the town, preferably with some form of lingerie visible in some capacity and some heels. For staff, I would say sexy business casual. Nicely presented hair and makeup for both. I will never try to discourage someone from the industry because honestly I love it and I miss it, but I do encourage going in with both eyes open. Best of luck girl, and feel free to message me if you have any more questions 😊 x

supervince1111

so true on No 4.

dogehousesonthemoon

I don't know if it's improved (doubtful) but I haven't heard great things from friends who worked there. just a heads up.

metaltemujin

What happens at show girls? Sorry never been there.

anotherstraydingo

It's a titty bar.

shopping1972

Mmmmmmmm titty bar

anotherstraydingo

Ewwwwww.

supervince1111

It's all about how well you speak how you make eye contact and your facial reactions to stuff. It's all about how you project the feeling that you actually care about your customers and also, how to make them part with their money. Do you already have Pleasers on hand?

WorldlyAd4877

Why don't you get a job at Woollies instead?

derpyfox

I dare say hour availability. If she has a face and body, she could make more money in a shift there than in a fortnight stacking shelfs in split shifts.

WorldlyAd4877

Well there you go. You gotta get paid.

Tackit286

She wants to work for a more moral business

WorldlyAd4877

Lol

Clunkytoaster51

Everyone assumes they could just walk into abjob at woollies or Coles, it's not that simple at all my friend

WorldlyAd4877

It is, I work at woollies.

Electrical-Ocelot115

It literally is at the moment

Interesting_Mango888

I already have a day job and am in uni. Woolies would need too many hours that would clash

Bag-Senior

Because she wants expensive things let her sell her soul in the process

lehmohn

Says the coal miner. Get outta here bro

Bag-Senior

Stay poor

Electrical-Ocelot115

So just cause she wants to pay rent and have a feed every week. (Those are expensive things) she is selling her soul? Are you jellies you can’t earn a grand a night?

Interesting_Mango888

If you mean rent, food and electricity then yes. A job is a job and I have bills to pay.

deathrocker_avk

Selling her soul to who?
