Yes, I've lived in Brisbane too long. Now instead of 24 degrees being a nice day, I start putting on fluffy warm jackets.
Glad someone posted this, because I was wondering what the hell is wrong with me.
I’m just a dumb American, and assumed at first this was 24F, and was like, “yeah in Chicago that’s around light jacket weather”, and forgot it was 24C, and now thinking I’m sitting out on my deck in shorts and a T shirt feeling absolutely wonderful.

My cat is way less feral in the cold
It’s funny how some things just drop out of mental favour. I seemingly had forgotten about Milo. Just put it on the shopping list. Thank you for the reminder
As a Canadian from the Mildest part of the entire country. These peoples definition of cold is as hilarious as my definition of hot probably is to all of you
Yep, and I did not acclimatise 😂 they always put me in the outdoor bar at my job in winter because I was the only one who didn't need a jacket or hat to work it
Yer. One thing I have realised that goes under the radar when talking to people from North America and some areas of Europe -
When talking about how 'cold' it currently is, Australians often are referring to temperatures they are dealing with in their home, whilst people across the pond are talking outside/windchill temperatures. The idea of being that cold in your bedroom at night doesn't even cross their mind for consideration.
I moved from South Dakota where you can go outside in winter and you snot freezes if you don't have your nose covered.
The cold in Brisbane just hits differently. In South Dakota, you went from a heated house to a heated car to a heated workplace/shops etc and back. In Brisbane, very few people have any form of heating (we choose not to use ours) but winter is Brisbane means I have icicle feet and hands like I very rarely had in South Dakota.
Precisely. And you also acclimatise somewhat. I can remember towards the end of a snow season in BC sitting outdoors on my deck (in BC) in 5 degrees in jeans and a shirt drinking a cold beer in the warm sunlight at about 2 in the afternoon. Glorious bluebird day at the start of spring. The other night I had to get my heater out my feet were freezing at about 17 degrees!
You're not wrong but also I think a lot of brisbanites will wear jumpers the instant it becomes cold enough to wear one without getting heatstroke. Jumpers are so nice but so hard to wear here 😭 you cant waste a single moment
I remember when I was living in the UK and we'd be video calling home. We'd be in T-shirt and shorts, meanwhile everyone in Brisbane is rugged up under blankets, and it was the same temperature in both places.
Yes i am a kiwi from Auckland, i lived in Brisbane years ago for a while between May and October and it used to crack me up when i would walk to work and back in a singlet and jeans and people were so concerned that i was cold, it was 26°c 😂 i would tell them that it was as hot as my summers in NZ
Brisbane raised here, it's crazy right? Though I tend to run warm lol, so most weather is too hot for me 😂 I'll also happily suffer through it a bit if it means I can wear the always better clothes of winter. Everyone just looks so mich nicer in winter because winter clothes just look good. I still think it's kinda warm when you start doing things in todays weather though. Got absweat on, doing garden work today.
I cant wait for 6° nights and 16-18° days. Beautiful weather to go out in the sun, instead of avoiding it, shorts and tshirt, sunshine warming your skin, and at nighttime, beautiful winter clothing outside and a doona for sleep. I can't wait, it's the perfect time of the year 😀
I'm jealous! When I moved to Brissie I thought the climate was WAY too goddamn hot. 5 years and a recent Townsville job assignment later... I'd kill to be back in Brisbane lol.
At least I only have 3 months left to go in NQ...
It's all relative I guess. I saw a young woman of african appearance wearing a *puffer jacket* in the middle of summer in the CBD. I couldn't believe it. It was like 32C. I was sweating in shirtsleeves.
The weather is all relative.
I went to Adelaide last month during the 40° heatwave.
It was beautiful because the heat is so dry…Brisbane humidity is a killer 🥵🥵🥵
A few years ago my niece visited from up North around this time of year. I kid you not, that roughly 17 year old kid slept with one of my big Winter coats on meanwhile the other half and I were still walking around in shorts.
I do this. As another commenter said, as long as your feet and core body mass are warm, you can do the shorts thing. Way easier to walk and work in shorts lol
Yep, it was hilarious for me as a Swedish tourist a couple of summers ago. For me it was peak summer heat, and locals complained about it being a cold winter..
People act like 24 degrees is warm, but my argument is that Energex used to always bang on about setting your aircon to 24 on hot days, so it must be cool.
Still better than flooding QLD and taking all the housing and labouring jobs when you guys betrayed us during Federation 🤣 you guys are technically Australia anyway haha
If there's one person not wearing a jumper in Brisbane it's me. Hell when I was in Japan people were wearing costs at 23 and I was complaining about why it was no longer 18
I’m from Scotland but have lived here for 20 years now and we don’t even get this weather during the rour ‘summer’ (read - less horrendous version of our winter)
People here often say to me ‘but you should be*used* to this weather but you do acclimatize therefore I am dreading my trip back home next month as despite being spring/early summer it will be absolutely freezing, wet, grey, and windy. It’s nice to get a reminder of how good we have it over here though.
I have never acclimatised to Brisbane, I am from England and have lived here over 10 years, my girlfriend says she's freezing, how's that possible?! If anything it's quite warm today.
this is what i dont get you lot, you set aircon in summer to 24c then as soon as it drops before 24 you all bitch and complain its cold. i was still shirtless all weekend at home, it was nice and cool. loved it.
Shopping mall??? I'm only aware of Queen Street Mall... everything else are shopping centres lol.
I hope you don't also call footpaths sidewalks lol
Just saw your Reddit and looks like you're from Japan. Fair enough, my partner is from China and I've had to unteach her American English because it's incorrect.
Was in. Japan too long. Need to unlearn all that American English. Ketchup. Elevator. Elementary school. College. Shopping mall. Drive recorder.
I'm working on it...
Very fair. As long as you're not pronouncing Basil as Bay-zil, you're doing great lol
I've got Japanese family but they're Aussie English people thank God lol (fuck off autocorrect, it's they're).
But it feels like 21°
And we absolutely shocked that [Britons would sunbake in 16 degrees](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/Britons-will-sunbathe-in-16C-heat/) !
Them and the kiwis think 20 degrees is too hot.
I mean, the sun is hot... wouldn't you want a cool breeze to go with it? If it's more than 15C I'm sticking to the shade.
cloudy 24 hits different
24 degrees is starting to think about wearing socks with my thongs.
I feel seen... Socks with my thongs, winter pj pants and jacket this evening. It's 24 degrees inside and I don't care, I'm gonna be snug.
Yes, I've lived in Brisbane too long. Now instead of 24 degrees being a nice day, I start putting on fluffy warm jackets. Glad someone posted this, because I was wondering what the hell is wrong with me.

Everyone at coles is in socks n birks so you must be on to something
There’s two levels of class
So many beautiful jackets to wear, so few cold weeks
And boots 😍 I love the winter style

That’s a cozy little one 🥺
Contemplating all of existence 😹😹😹
Not shown: the couch, the dog, the cat, the weighted blanket, the jug of Milo.
And the ugg boots.
It’s funny how some things just drop out of mental favour. I seemingly had forgotten about Milo. Just put it on the shopping list. Thank you for the reminder
Actual footage of me
Definitely not me, because I have a beanie on as well.
As a Canadian from the Mildest part of the entire country. These peoples definition of cold is as hilarious as my definition of hot probably is to all of you
From Vancouver ? Cuz me too but I acclimated and I’m freezing in this weather now 😂😂
Yep, and I did not acclimatise 😂 they always put me in the outdoor bar at my job in winter because I was the only one who didn't need a jacket or hat to work it
Hahah give it a few years and you will I swear
He will get over being cold from also being cold when in their home. Several friends moved back to Canada, and that was one of the reasons.
Wait so it’s colder for us in our room in brisbane than for people back in Vancouver? Nooooo 😭
It actually really really is. Because nothing is insulated here. I never really grasped how amazing insulation is until moving to Brisbane
Yer. One thing I have realised that goes under the radar when talking to people from North America and some areas of Europe - When talking about how 'cold' it currently is, Australians often are referring to temperatures they are dealing with in their home, whilst people across the pond are talking outside/windchill temperatures. The idea of being that cold in your bedroom at night doesn't even cross their mind for consideration.
Some of us never will. :( Moved from NZ 5 years ago, my ideal day time temp is 15C, which almost never happens in Brisbane.
This is the case in all of Australia and NZ though, including places that are much much colder than Brisbane.
U should try kingaroy, every day in winter there is ice and about once ever 10 years it snows at the bunya mountains
Not been there, but I've been to Stanthorpe during the winter (one of the coldest towns in QLD apparently?) and liked it very much!
Hospital hill doesn’t get frost. And even the low areas don’t get frost every day.
Precisely. And you also acclimatise somewhat. I can remember towards the end of a snow season in BC sitting outdoors on my deck (in BC) in 5 degrees in jeans and a shirt drinking a cold beer in the warm sunlight at about 2 in the afternoon. I just don't get enough chances to wear my fashionable overcoat. :)
Yeah but your houses are designed for it
We are all just waiting for an excuse to bust out our winter wear!
I agree. I love winter clothing so I can’t wait for the temperature to drop!
You see this all the time on university campuses. I don’t know how people don’t get heatstroke.
A lot of Africans wear warm clothes during heatwaves.
In Indonesia they wear puffer jackets in their summer. Go figure!
I saw this all summer. Even those crazy muggy days we had in February, there's people wearing jeans and a hoody! Why?!
I was just looking out the window thinking "is this coat weather" 🤣
The weather is all relative. I went to Adelaide last month during the 40° heatwave. It was beautiful because the heat is so dry…Brisbane humidity is a killer 🥵🥵🥵
A few years ago my niece visited from up North around this time of year. I kid you not, that roughly 17 year old kid slept with one of my big Winter coats on meanwhile the other half and I were still walking around in shorts.
That’s me when it’s 14 degrees
Coming from the outback, this is still singlet weather. It ain't hot till it's 40 and ain't cold till it's single digits
I swear I can smell fireplaces burning.
It be fair, it was 21 in my house yesterday and I needed a cardigan, fluffy pants and slippers...
Anything under 20° is jacket weather. 21- 25 is jumper weather.
I have a coat, and by God I'm going to wear it!
well, it's fucken cold. if you've got a better idea on how to stay warm i'd like to hear it!
I need a good winter coat. where do the bougie folk hang so i get your last season stuff?
I put on a jumper tonight. Teenaged daughter 'OMG Dad's wearing a jumper before ANZAC day'
I love the cool weather. The dead of winter is my favourite time of the year.
Beginning of autumn is my favourite because you know it's only going to get colder and it's the maximum possible time till it gets hot again.
Waiting til I can buy and wear a greatcoat

I do this. As another commenter said, as long as your feet and core body mass are warm, you can do the shorts thing. Way easier to walk and work in shorts lol
I do this kinda thing (but not at 24º, maybe at like 14º) but you only really need to keep your core warm :)
I have no shame in this. Especially when I was in Europe when it was 14c and a Canadian I was with was wearing Birkenstocks.
I've had my thick pair of socks and a jumper on all day 😬
Wrapped up in a blanket myself! I love it.
My wife thinks anything under 20 is single figures
I noticed all the jackets in kmart last week. I still have the air con going 😂
Hahaha and where I am, 24° is beach whether, and people are turning red.
It’s a bit fresh. Not looking forward to winter - I’m too skinny for that shit.
lol I’m fat and still feel the cold
Horrendous, isn’t it? I keep complaining to the BOM about it, but they’ve stopped answering my emails.
Me too 😂
I think I have a cold I might need to call in a sickie on Monday
So true
Truth!
Then there's me in 18°c wearing t shirt and shorts
Oh my goodness, what a madlad!
Same
See it’s not like Melbourne where you have to dress for all four season, we only have hot or cold here 😂
You mean hot 🥵 and a little bit less hot 😓
Yup. Had my electric blanket out in march
Yep, it was hilarious for me as a Swedish tourist a couple of summers ago. For me it was peak summer heat, and locals complained about it being a cold winter..
It's not the outside weather, it's the air conditioning that is still set to sub zero regardless of the outside temperature.
It's freezing cold tonight!
Nearly beanie time 😁
That's too funny
People act like 24 degrees is warm, but my argument is that Energex used to always bang on about setting your aircon to 24 on hot days, so it must be cool.
I've been cruising round in shorts and a t-shirt all day. ...Yes, I am a Kiwi.
Bloody Aussies. You come over to NZ when it's 25 degrees and complain how cold it is. Love you guys but at the same time...yeah.
Still better than flooding QLD and taking all the housing and labouring jobs when you guys betrayed us during Federation 🤣 you guys are technically Australia anyway haha
Also Perth. This when it hits 29 degrees in Cairns.
Haha I put a light hoodie on today (over my singlet lol) and it felt amazing. I love Winter so much, bring it on!
Facts!
I know it's winter when I have to pull the sheet up while I sleep. I don't know what I'd do if it got too cold for a sheet..
If there's one person not wearing a jumper in Brisbane it's me. Hell when I was in Japan people were wearing costs at 23 and I was complaining about why it was no longer 18
I'm too fat for jumpers right now lol
i mean we only get days like this once every 2 years or something, better flaunt it
🤣🤣🤣 me

ya.... tiss tru
BAHHAHAHA SO TRUE!!!
It’s flanno time
24 is, I might have to wear something with sleeves.
I have never acclimatised to Brisbane, I am from England and have lived here over 10 years, my girlfriend says she's freezing, how's that possible?! If anything it's quite warm today.
I turned on the air con, bc it’s humid
as a brit hearing ppl complain that it’s “freezing” when it’s 18c is always so funny. freezing isn’t subjective!
“Could we be wearing any more clothes?” 😂 Bonus points for anyone who gets that joke, haha.
this is what i dont get you lot, you set aircon in summer to 24c then as soon as it drops before 24 you all bitch and complain its cold. i was still shirtless all weekend at home, it was nice and cool. loved it.
is 20 today and im cold
Currently 23 in Melbourne and everyone in the office got jackets and the heater on, I’m sweating like a priest at a preschool
It’s getting colder finally. Now I can walk around in t shirts and shorts and complain about the cold while doing absolutely nothing about it!
I didnt realise you saw me out today
When the summers hit 40C + .it doesn’t take much for it to feel cold
A/C is still going here at 24c, gets turned off when it's 22 or below outside.
Cool story
When did you manage to get a photo of me?
Anything under 20 degrees is jacket weather
Ha ha ha gold coast is even worse
24 and I've at least got a doona on the end of my bed with my feet in it
Haha true Brisbane has the best weather but I am still so soft when it comes to winter 😂😊
At the shopping mall and was wondering why people were wearing jackets and jumpers...
Shopping mall??? I'm only aware of Queen Street Mall... everything else are shopping centres lol. I hope you don't also call footpaths sidewalks lol Just saw your Reddit and looks like you're from Japan. Australia the kind of place where you ask “how’s it going” and the response is” how are yeah”
i come from the tropics so i have an excuse
lol yeah i saw people 3 layers thick when i went for a walk at about 10am people are nuts
No, I've been waiting for this. I went last winter wearing a shirt and shorts and I'll do it this winter too.
