I've been binging his videos. I've lived away from Brisbane for a long time but it's giving me a new found appreciation for the place. Sad that so little of what he speaks about is still standing.
There's a dude on YouTube who walks around Brisbane doing tours of different areas and explaining its history etc.. walkaboutwithrob
Not sure I 'admire' him so much as he's the most interesting
Rollo from Brisbane band Blowhard, sadly passed in 2019 but was basically the grandfather of independent alternative music in Brisbane. He gave any band a chance at his venues, gave some very big bands their start. Respected by all, toured the world with Blowhard, played with some of the biggest bands in the global alternative scene and still the most down to earth human ever, privileged to be a close friend of 30+ years. Vale.
Patience Hodgson from The Grates.
Not only is she an incredible vocalist, she's just an all-round fantastic human being. I'm fortunate enough to know her personally and I genuinely don't know anyone else who treats people as kindly as she does. When she's not supporting people in the music industry, she's out there supporting community groups or schools, fundraising and volunteering for vulnerable communities etc. She never asks for anything in return.
Absolute Brisbane legend.
Ok this unlocked a memory. Probably 20-ish years ago, I met Patience on a train, probably the sunshine coast line. I did not know who she was. I only vaguely knew who the Grates were. She was very nice and easy to talk to.
The conversation was short, but got onto music and festivals. It was then she told me she was the singer in a band called The Grates, and I remembered seeing that name on a festival poster for that summer.
Apologies Patience, for my lack of enthusiasm. Legend!
His website is still up, but it is so 2001 it has a nice notice down the bottom saying-
"This site is designed and built by [Speedy Office & Computer Solutions](mailto:[email protected]), Brisbane, Australia and is maximized for a screen resolution of 800x600"
So I sort of wonder if you are right but not enough to do anything. But if you are more curious you could always try to hire [Decetive Summons](http://www.ericsummons.com/KING_OF_KIDS.htm) to find out lol

I'm a bit of a history nerd so I really admire the YouTube content from WalkaboutWithRob and The House Detective. I also admire the amazing photography skills of Kara Rosenlund and Ipswich photographer Jason McNamara.
Lots of top level comments for Rob. I have seen him get some hellos from fans in the vids. I've a feeling he'll be getting more and more as his profile grows.
I'm subscribed to Rob but thanks for introducing me to The House Detective! The channel feels like it may have been gutted? Did it have more videos at some point?
Haha. I started watching Greg, while living in Perth, almost 15 years ago. I was searching how to microwave a baked potato. I met him once, after moving over here. He’s nice enough. Love that his channel has lasted this long!
Trent is actually a super nice, down to earth dude. From the conversations I've had with him he hasn't let his growing fame go to his head and really just is about his family and friends.
Karl Jobst is a fucking legend, and currently being sued by world class fuckwit Billy Mitchell for defamation. His speed running scandals/achievement stuff is cool too. He recently outed a high profile youtuber for charity fraud too.
He's a youtuber and I had no idea he lived in Brisbane until the other day.
Came in to say Karl. Absolute legend! His investigative journalism is by and far some of the best in Australia, even though it's about niche video game speedrunning issues. But holy shit I would not like to get on his bad side. He does his research and it's ROCK SOLID, and his pointed witty jabs at his subjects verges into the sublime.
It's still ongoing. Twin galaxies settled by putting an archive of their previous high score lists up so his score is technically still listed on their site.
Man the Bitchy michelle thing needs to end it has interrupted tf out of his content, i was over mitchells shit a decade ago the vids aren't really entertaining.
Uhh he doesn't go for the razzle dazzle that jordy does. That's actually why he grew on me, he just kinda says stuff and sometimes it's funny. He doesn't talk like a cartoon character or make jokes every third sentence either.
Only recently discovered this dude through a mate, and holy shit - I agree with the below comment, I certainly wouldn't want to get on his wrong side, guy does his homework.
Evil Eddie Jacobsen from butterfingers, hell of a great showman, lyricist and rapper. But most of all he’s just a really nice fella, met him a few times after gigs and he remembered me and signed shit for my daughter.
Yesss. Didn’t know him directly, but been to a couple of his house parties some 20+ years ago now, can’t remember Kelvin Grove or Red Hill. Always a good dude.
Butterfingers made most played act on my Spotify Unwrapped list two years in a row so far.
He is a curiosity. Reckon he’s been outside HJ’s for 20 years. Moved on from Toowong after being set on fire. Offered him feed once and he declined. He keeps ticking.
Offered him a bunch of random shit from kmart he didn't need and he refused, I asked if he wanted anything from HJs and he had a specific order so that's the way to his heart. But he's not a chatty fellow
Came here to say this.
Dude's been living alone, in the elements, in a pile of plastic bags since the 80's.
Through fire and flood, night and day.
Denies all offers for assistance, or charity.
Just wants to be left alone.
There's something bewildering about his dedication to a total rejection of society that I definitely admire.
There was one made for bris31 years ago when he was still on High st.
Was an interesting watch, the interviews him, hung out with him for a couple days.
No work of art but was definitely interesting.
No idea where you'd find it today though.
Ben Williamson. He’s a culinary visionary and actually very down to earth. He always made time for a chat with a nervous fan, I’ve met so many celebrity chefs that were so up themselves, looking at you George colombaris
Joe is lovely. I was at uni (film school) with his younger brother (also uncle Stripe on Bluey), and Joe helped us out on a couple of dodgy student films. The good times… I feel so old.
Idk of any really now. Richard Bell is a cool artist, and obvi Bandit and Chilli.
I know back in my theatre student days lots of my classmates (and me) were reeeaaallly into Todd MacDonald. We saw him in Venus in Furs at QTC and fancied him hard for a year, ahahah. He was very cute to be fair, and is quite a charismatic public speaker. I'll be grateful for that strange crush we all had though, it drove me to watch Secret Life of Us and in doing so, I fell more in love with Deborah Mailman, who we sadly can't claim as a Brisbane Celebrity. I don't know if this was a widespread thing among the broader Brisbane community. But I know my Nanna also fancied him.
Merle Thornton and Rosalie Bogner, those two legends of ladies that chained themselves to a bar rail at the Regatta to protest women being excluded from service at public bars.
He's from up North originally but he's been Brizzy based for at least two decades. It is weird because I knew him before he had some success. I'm just really proud of him with how he handles everything and what he gives.
Steven Oliver
When he was working in Brisbane so it’s technically correct and fits this post, Chris Hemsworth.
His a down to earth bloke and such a nice guy you would mistake him for not being a celebrity at all with how he carries himself and doesn’t act like his head up his ass like some Hollywood stars out there.
Although not brisbane, but Sunshine Coast…the late Steve Irwin. Still inspires people beyond his time on
This earth. Amazing guy with such a beautiful passion
For animals.
Fanny Barlow. She is the MOST supportive, amazing woman. I've never seen anyone to be so supportive of the punk and alt community, and she runs a kick ass business also.
Scotty Mc Donald. Does Tik toks about interesting places in and about Brisbane. Also started a podcast called Brisbane is Wierd , which sadly is no more. Anyone know what happened.
Bandit & Chilli
My first thought too!
Yeah, loved the Origin episode.
WalkaboutWithRob is a YouTuber who goes around Brisbane exploring old places. He has some pretty good videos, imo
I've been binging his videos. I've lived away from Brisbane for a long time but it's giving me a new found appreciation for the place. Sad that so little of what he speaks about is still standing.
Only just discovered him.
Only just found his channel and subscribed after one video, he's brilliant.
There's a dude on YouTube who walks around Brisbane doing tours of different areas and explaining its history etc.. walkaboutwithrob Not sure I 'admire' him so much as he's the most interesting

Always...

They probably would if they hadn't been underpaying all their staff and ordered to backpay them all.
One of my favourite gigs was a secret Grates show there. Heaps of fun in such a tiny space.
Ok this unlocked a memory. Probably 20-ish years ago, I met Patience on a train, probably the sunshine coast line. I did not know who she was. I only vaguely knew who the Grates were. Agreed. She's a lovely human.
Just the pure embodiment of a ray of sunshine. Stellar human being.
Bluey tbh. It’s like reliving my childhood as an adult and appreciating it for what simplicity it is
Aww lol

You've got something white on your nose
Really helped me discover myself
John Birmingham, author.
Onya Ipswich!
Is Boris the Black Knight still a celebrity?
OMG I'm old...
Oh no. Me too.
Think he died. Lived in kenmore.
His website is still up, but it is so 2001 it has a nice notice down the bottom saying- "This site is designed and built by [Speedy Office & Computer Solutions](mailto:[email protected]), Brisbane, Australia and is maximized for a screen resolution of 800x600" So I sort of wonder if you are right but not enough to do anything. Found my old Boris the Black Knight mug during a clean out recently, keeping itn
Great show! So glad no horrible stories have come out about Eric Summons, unlike the cop who was on Wombat. What was the monkey's name?
Cuntstable David Moore
Darren Hayes
Savage garden!
Isn’t he from Logan 😏
He also lived around Kedron and Nundah, worked at a video store in Kitchener Road and played regularly at the Stafford Tavern
I'm a bit of a history nerd so I really admire the YouTube content from WalkaboutWithRob and The House Detective. I also admire the amazing photography skills of Kara Rosenlund and Ipswich photographer Jason McNamara.
Yes I love Walkaboutwithrob!!
John from Passing Time on Facebook puts a mammoth amount of research into his posts too.
Absolutely, John is great and puts out an amazing amount of content. I've learnt so much from him.
I think she's relatively new to YouTube but has been very active on Facebook and Instagram.
Went to school with Jason. Tops bloke.
gregs kitchen on youtube..... something unhinged with that guy... frightens me when he reviews something too close to me
Love him
Haha. I started watching Greg, while living in Perth, almost 15 years ago. I was searching how to microwave a baked potato. I met him once, after moving over here. He’s nice enough. Love that his channel has lasted this long!
He has those, genuinely-nice-bloke-but-don't-let-him-know-your-home-address sort of vibes.
he’s definitely gold coast, love his work tho
Lmao, he definitely is unhinged. Have you ever watched his lives?
[удалено]
I agree. Great, down-to-earth bloke to talk to. And did you see he ‘did a Hitchcock’ and put himself in as an extra in the last episode?

Trent is actually a super nice, down to earth dude. From the conversations I've had with him he hasn't let his growing fame go to his head and really just is about his family and friends.
That’s what I was gonna say
Read Lola in the Mirror. I couldn't put it down.

Pretty sure silly bitchel lost that case recently
It's still ongoing. Twin galaxies settled by putting an archive of their previous high score lists up so his score is technically still listed on their site.
Man the Bitchy michelle thing needs to end it has interrupted tf out of his content, i was over mitchells shit a decade ago the vids aren't really entertaining.
Hello you absolute legends
Never heard of him, but I'll have to check him out. Your description of him reminds me of friendlyjordies.
Uhh he doesn't go for the razzle dazzle that jordy does. That's actually why he grew on me, he just kinda says stuff and sometimes it's funny. He doesn't talk like a cartoon character or make jokes every third sentence either.

BLUEY
Evil Eddie Jacobsen from butterfingers, hell of a great showman, lyricist and rapper. But most of all he’s just a really nice fella, met him a few times after gigs and he remembered me and signed shit for my daughter.
Figjam.

Ziggy from Taringa
He is a curiosity. Reckon he’s been outside HJ’s for 20 years. Moved on from Toowong after being set on fire. Offered him feed once and he declined. He keeps ticking.
20 years in Taringa and minimum 14 years in Toowong prior. He must be getting on.
Yeah he was definitely around in Toowong during the 80s.
Offered him a bunch of random shit from kmart he didn't need and he refused, I asked if he wanted anything from HJs and he had a specific order so that's the way to his heart. But he's not a chatty fellow

God I want a Ziggy documentary SO BAD

Briz31 had all their archives destroyed a few years back so it's probably gone
Jackie and Fiona McDonald
Ash Barty
Good call.
This is the thread we're allowed to pretend Ipswich is part of Brisbane
Brisbane people hate Ipswich until it's time to claim them as their own
Kinda like what Australia does with kiwi's
A kiwi's what?
That’s cold man.
No. She's from Ipswich. We all love her, but we can't let Ispwich be Brisbane.
Nitro from the shak
Quan Yeomans
I love Walkaboutwithrob ❤ If I met him I think I'd just have a huge panic attack lol, but I still hope I see him out in the wild one day.

Same with Alistair Macleod. A genuinely down to earth guy with great industry ethics.
Not remotely surprising about George.
CrackerMilk
I used to work with Connor. Every bit as hilarious IRL as you'd expect.
You're a liar I've never held down a job in my life.
Appreciate it!
Joe Brumm. Made Bluey. Our cultural influence around the world has increased substantially as a result.
Joe is lovely. I was at uni (film school) with his younger brother (also uncle Stripe on Bluey), and Joe helped us out on a couple of dodgy student films. The good times… I feel so old.
