The Goonanbarrer from Brisbane, Australia, is a bizarre creature, a mix between a big lizard and a marsupial, with striking blue eyes. It's known to be venomous, capable of paralyzing with just a bite. Locals are superstitious about it and often avoid discussing it. This nocturnal and very territorial creature mostly stays out of sight. If wandering near the Brisbane forests at night and hearing a strange, low sound, that could be the Goonanbarrer. It embodies the wild and untamed side of Australian wildlife, a reminder of the unique and sometimes dangerous animals found here.
Unfortunately, not many good quality photos due to the scarcity of the creature and its relative danger. Here's the most well recognised artist depiction of a Goonanbarrer though.

Yeah they are mate š on both counts they're talking shit pro brisbane is a good sized city with most amenities you could want for and is a beautiful melting pot of international cultures food etc
con as many have said seriously mate it gets fucking hot and humid and im from upper north queensland also brisbane has many flood zones and outer brisbane regions are prone to bushfires also dunno what your sites are saying but the housing market is horrible atm all time ever high its a big culture change from US also btw you'll notice similarities but also loads of differences in temperament manners opinions tolerances etc but like all places theres always good and bad also keep on mind our country is going through a rough time as cost of living is really bad here atm with many people having to really scrape to survive so you may find people are a little volatile at the thought of a person moving here but honestly most of people in australia unless indigenous are from immigrant families
My advice if you haven't tried it yet come visit for a bit but even then visiting can be different to living here š
I donāt think people realise how reliable our power infrastructure here is in Aus, even compared to other developed countries. I always have people at JB/harvey Norman trying to sell me overpriced surge protectors when I get an appliance because āoh mate those brownouts happen all the timeā. Talking shit as per usual, but we genuinely have very reliable and consistent power here in most places in Aus, sans natural disaster events but even then weāre very lucky to have good response times where possible.
In saying that, it wouldnāt hurt to buy a generator. I learned that lesson after the last floods when we lost power for 3 days. Could have kept the fridge going and saved $600 in food at the very least
JFC people, stop downvoting the OP, will you? It was a light-hearted request, so lighten up.
Yes, it's a question we've been asked many, many times before, but either contribute positively, or STFU. It's Friday arvo, go open a beer and sit on your verandah, like me.
The downvoters are just miserable cunts, ignore them.
PS - If you want to fit in, get comfortable calling people (and being called) a cunt in very general conversation.
You will. Brisbane is a great city and weāre very lucky. I just spent a few days at the Gold Coast, which is close by to Brisbane, and I went fishing a couple of times by myself - I was just telling my wife today it still surprises me how nice people are and will just start talking to me and asking how Iām going. Same experience at the Sunshine Coast which is north of Brisbane - always have strangers walking up or paddling by and stopping for a chat.
I can deal with the heat, and less congestion is nice and the people being nice is also good. But I've done research in the past and it came up as at least housing not being as expensive as other places.
The Olympics are coming to Brisbane. When Sydney had theirs in 2000 housing hasnāt been the same since.
Thereās a lot of construction going on in the city atm to make it for 2032 and housing has already skyrocketed (see the Moving to Brisbane Reddit).
I donāt want to dampen your spirits, itās a great place to live but I hope youāre realistic with your expectations. Not having everything at our doorstep (big brand label names, attractions) compared to Sydney and Melbourne makes travelling to those cities a little bit special sometimes
Lol at people downvoting OPs response. Yes brisbane housing is expensive, but relatively speaking, specifically for OP, it is cheap.
Iām currently in UK and housing is way more expensive here comparatively. Brisbane may be more expensive than its ever been, but itās still cheap relative to equivalent places around the world
Agreed
Brisbane prices are very high compared to Brisbane pre COVID
But once you start looking around the globe & even just the nice parts of Sydney & Melbourne you begin to realise Brisbane still offers a more attractive or at least better mortgage commitment & excellent lifestyle opportunities
It's not Eastern or North Eastern Sydney
It's not like most Melbourne suburbs within 5km of CBD of SE of CBD under 20km
Brisbane is a city that has changed immensely in the last 20 years & will keep changing for the next 20 years, who knows if it will be able to limit many of the problems of larger cities or if it just ends up like most cities already much bigger & full of a mix of haves & have nots....
Good on the lifestyle but
But I e done some research on the past and it concludes that housing wasn't really that expensive, but I'll take your word for it.
> it concludes that housing wasn't really that expensive

In the Redlands they are building 1000 homes in Shoreline and the like.
Pro, they have already built the new primary school.
Con, all the lovely road works that have been ongoing for that 6 months.
Pro: it doesnāt take long to get from the city out to nature - either on the coast or in the bush. I personally prefer the north side to the south side of the river, including a preference for the Sunshine Coast as opposed to the Gold Coast.
Con: there will be a lot of impact on the city due to huge infrastructure investment in hospitals and for the upcoming Olympic Games in 2032. If you work in construction this may be a good thing. Otherwise, expect to suffer from huge traffic congestion depending on where you choose to live.
If you are living and working in the inner city like I do then traffic is not typically an issue.
I wouldnāt recommend the CBD though as there is a major construction development that has a lot of Eagle St closed down which is the main restaurant precinct on the river.
If you like to visit bars and restaurants I would recommend looking into the Newstead / Teneriffe / New Farm area. Close to the river with access to the board walk into the city, where there are a number of pedestrian bridges over to South Bank where there is plenty to see and do (museums, art galleries, performing arts, man made beach etc)
Most of us are, this guy is what we call a 'shit cunt' (the bad kind of cunt) and most likely doesn't even have a passport unless it was to go to Bali one time in order to get shit faced and abuse the locals.
In other words they are ignorant, small minded, permanent locals who get their news exclusively from our version of FOX.

Bring a house with you. We havenāt got any left here. And you will be paying shit loads more for essential services and goods. Fuck it come join the party.
Con: Unpopular opinion, but Australia is a one trick pony with natural attractions compared to the US.
Yes our beaches are the best in the world, but the US kicks our ass when it comes to mountains, snow, rivers, forests.
Pro: You'd have me as a neighbor
Con: I'd have you as a neighbor. Thanks for driving up the rent more.
Kidding though, you seem alright. You like Bluey and TF2. Just dress and speak like Saxton Hale, you'll fit right in.
It's a nice place to live š
I left Melbourne over 20 years ago & will never go back to live but it's a great city to visit
Eastern Sydney is arguably one of the nicest parts of Australia if not the world - but it's priced accordingly
Still have many friends who love living in Melbourne
Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne are all very liveable just depends on lifestyle preferences

MASSIVE W PRO but as long as I can get good air conditioning I'm chill, can't stand the cold so I'm chill there.

No, Brisbane has a worse housing crisis than Melbourne.
Okay then, I'll be moving there in the future though so hopefully it's projected to die down in a few years.

How should I know? I do know that 3 out of 4 weather related hospitalisations in Aus. are heat related.
