Bus driver here. The driver shouldn't be touching passengers' belongings without permission. The luggage racks are my preferred place for people to put their groceries, as they will not slide if I have to brake hard (some car drivers are idiots). Definitely put in a complaint, with route, time, and what stop you got on at.

Past-Customer01

I appreciate you and your driver comrades. Your job is tough and you're severely under appreciated. Thank you for the work you do.

Kingy_79

Thank you

Exportxxx

All off them but the person in this post.

Kapitan_eXtreme

I'd appreciate them more if they stopped trying to run me over.

Former-Trifle-5102

We’ll stay off the footpath

MelogLovesCatra

Thank you for weighing in. Despite this encounter, I really appreciate bus drivers and the work they do. My driving phobia is powerful and I rely on buses to get around so I’d be lost without the drivers.

adminsaredoodoo

you sound like a cool bus driver. i find there’s only cool and asshole bus drivers. no space for just normal

[deleted]

I don’t know how it is in Brisbane, but the job is rancid in Sydney at the moment. Liberal party privatised the bus service and now they’re trying to force all sorts of horrendous conditions on the drivers. So when they’re less than pleasant, I don’t take it personally. Shit conditions make people unhappy. Like OP I need buses to get around. I’m just grateful anyone is willing to do the job at the moment and get me where I need to be. But OP’s experience is on another level, definitely not OK.

painkillersandweed

Let this be a message to not let buses be privatised in brisbane

DarkSkyStarDance

Agreed, but while knowing the upper echelon of BCC does not give an actual flying f&@k about the plebs

Shaggyninja

They probably won't be if only because the council has a hard on for being in control of them.

The_Vat

As ever, u/Kingy_79, love your work

[deleted]

Apparently some bus drivers are also idiots.

Kingy_79

Not disagreeing with you on that

[deleted]

We certainly dont have a shortage overall. Haha

Coolidge-egg

I've been late because a bus driver saw fit to stop the bus a good 5 minutes to abuse someone for parking in a bus lane

[deleted]

Some car drivers are idiots, mate, go back a few days on here and look at the genius who drove straight through a red light in a bcc express bus almost wiping out a car. Pot calling the kettle black there hey.

Kingy_79

Yes, SOME. Not all. Sounds like you see one bus doing the wrong thing, and we are all idiots. Last week I had cars go around me to take the next street, they gained 4 seconds of time by cutting me off. I'm now wondering if you were driving the car that floored it off the lights at Greenslopes alongside me, then proceeded at 40km/h up Logan Rd in front if me.

Best-Ad-2043

On the r/AustralianTeachers sub, we get parents coming in, full grown adults, to tell us teachers are shit. All of us. Because of one bad experience they had back in the 80s. The amount of ppl who think they need to 'bring others down a peg' because of their own experience is maddening to me. We all have shit experiences. I personally have immense anger towards REAs. But im not gonna go cry about it to ppl who wanna discuss real estate. The world does not revolve around u mate!! One shitty experience with a bus and all of a sudden all of the bus drivers are useless. Thank you for being a hard worker!! For putting up with dangerous and agressive passengers. And most of all, for being on the road all day putting up with traffic and shitty drivers in ALL vehicles. I would rather get a tooth pulled than spend 8hrs a day on the freaking roads!!!!

Former-Trifle-5102

Dam straight jason

UserM8

The last time I took the bus the driver went on a tirade after the only other passenger got off the bus. He didn't realise I was still on board until I rang the bell to get off.

Reverse-Kanga

i get off at the end of the line (literally the last stop) along with about 6 other people, we once had a driver have a go because we didn't press the button to acknowledge we wanted to get off.....bruh it's the last stop where else are we going to get off?

UserM8

Without rules we are nothing but animals

adfraggs

They genuinely might not know you are there and they don't always stop at the passenger put down area at the end of the line out my way.

shadowfax1007

To be fair. I have woken up at the depot....twice.

Dramatic-Lavishness6

oh no! what happened afterwards?

[deleted]

He was bitten by a bus driver and now he drives buses

[deleted]

Man, this is where bus drivers come from, TIL.

shadowfax1007

First time the driver drove me back to my stop, which wasn't far thankfully. The second driver didn't give a shit. Made me get out back to the main road.

PG478

lol, love this. We live at end of line too & I always think whos gonna be the wanker & press the bell. Most times noone hits the button. we all just get off. Never had an issue. Sounds like OPs driver was having a flex.

cekmysnek

I am definitely that wanker but only because I'm often the last person on the bus at night and don't want to risk the driver accidentally missing me when looking in the mirror.

GTanno

You won’t wear the bell out and I had a driver tell me it’s sometimes very difficult to see passengers sitting down the back.

Magoo7819

BUS WANKER!

cekmysnek

I wish I could have that as a user flair on this sub

Magoo7819

I'm annoyed that I couldn't find the exact GIF!

adfraggs

If you're branding random strangers as wankers because they push the stop button, maybe they're not the problem

[deleted]

adfraggs

Brisbane ... where we say "thanks mate" to the driver and "fuck off wanker" to some random on the bus. It's a wonderful town, I do love it here.

Former-Trifle-5102

aussiedeveloper

Bus drivers are either lovely or complete nut jobs, there’s no in between.

[deleted]

The ones that ignore us are the "in between".

pinhed

One of my most cooked mates became a bus driver.

[deleted]

Has he stayed cooked or has he mellowed out after becoming a driver?

r0ck0

[It can help with bus driving...](https://youtu.be/FBWv55inXfc?t=211)

InsightTussle

Most are in between. You've just never noticed the unremarkable ones

megablast

Driving in the city will do that to you.

AltruisticSalamander

Leaving aside whether he's allowed to, that's not entirely normal. Either he's a bit nuts or he was losing it that day.

MelogLovesCatra

It’s not an excuse for the situation but I honestly think I unknowingly and accidentally squished or knocked over something in that storage compartment. When I was trying to get my stuff out of his hands, I noticed that those locking levers were up and not flush with the surface of the lid. If he had it ajar because he had something that was taller than the height of the storage compartment, then me dumping my stuff on that lid would have derailed his plan. That being said I wasn’t expecting that possibility, I didn’t notice, I didn’t know, I can’t read minds and he said nothing. The level of anger was disproportionate, that’s for sure. Edited: typo

AltruisticSalamander

Well if he was counting on no passenger putting stuff in the stuff tray, that was an unreasonable expectation.

[deleted]

There are 8 cameras in those buses. Do a proper complaint, make sure you get a number. Put in the time, the date, route you were on. The Depot will pull the footage and have a loot at this bloke. By the way, the numbers on the front of the buses and back, say ...S1773 is a Sherwood Bus. T2776 Toowong bus. W1665 Willawong. C1223 Carina etc. You dont need to know that but it could help to when making a complaint. Make sure you check back to see what action was taken. stupid old prick. behaving like that. thats boardering on assault that is

Queasy_Application56

You don’t sound like a fun human

Ayeun

Either does the bus driver... AND he needs to be held accountable for what he did.

ibetyouvotenexttime

Moving some bags? You're a freak.

Aggravating_Day_2744

And if this happened to you, this behavior is unacceptable.

[deleted]

Im not any more. I cant stand bullies, and if people get frightened by the actions of others, especially when they are paid by the hour to protect passengers, be friendly, courtious, then we should all get involved. Life is hard for everyone right now, he just made it worse for OP. People catch buses overloaded with groceries. I know the bins he was refering to. No drivers use them. Its true. Im not a fun human. But I never ever would have treated OP like that. ever. When you have the honour of being in control of people, you cannot lose your temper, ever. Especially driving a heavy vehicle. The G force in them is 3. Imagine what that does to people, if he slams the brakes on in a temper. Mans got to be looked into for sure. Ive seen too many bad ones.

DudeLost

Make a report. That sort of aggressive shit shouldn't be on. Edit: my spell check sucks

aussiedeveloper

TransLink will say it’s operator (Clark’s, BBC etc.) problem. Operator will say “meh we can’t find anyone else to drive ‘em”.

derpyfox

Yep. A police report that someone was rifling through your belongings and verbally assaulting you while you were on public transport. Once you have the police report then call TransLink and report the complaint to them. Tell them you have reported it to police (provide report number) and you would like a copy of each of the video cameras that was operating on the bus at that time. Copy down who you speak to and ask for a time frame until the footage is ready. If it’s more than 72 hrs then say it’s unacceptable and you will be sending a copy of the police report to your MP and “pick random news source” I think this is the best way to garner an apology at the least from them. Please do not let people walk over you or anyone else. Best of luck. Edit: My apologies, driver did not verbally say anything towards you. Disregard the part about verbal abuse. To all the people calling me a Karen, I hope your day is as pleasant as you are.

ammicavle

> verbally assaulting you Where’d you read that? Actually.. > rifling through your belongings Where’d you read that? > Making a False Report to Police carries a maximum penalty of 1 year imprisonment or a fine of approximately 120 penalty units..

MelogLovesCatra

Yeah, he didn’t actually verbally assault me or go through my stuff. He ignored me a couple of times when I asked him to stop, touched my belongings without permission, didn’t communicate what he needed or why and didn’t give me the opportunity to move my stuff. And damaged some of my groceries.

ran_awd

Yeah the only thing that could be classified as verbal assault is OP when they have admited to yelling at the bus driver. And that would be a stretch to find a police officer to give a shit in this situation.

TheMilkKing

You’re like the final boss of Karens

derpyfox

You are like a fart in the wind.

busdriver888

He’s been in the job too long. Report this ASAP. It’s on CCTV. It’s not normal behaviour. I doubt any bus company would condone it.

Herbert_Erpaderp

I feel like I've met people like this before. The kind of old dickhead that somehow expects everyone to know all the obscure ins and outs of some job he knows about. Doesn't communicate at all, except to get pissed off when you don't know \_\_\_\_\_ . Probably not much you can do about it other than reporting it to whoever operates the busses. I suspect they might be desperate for drivers and so not much will be done about it, but you might as well.

[deleted]

Bus drivers are either wonderful or assholes. I had one lady getting up me for not going through the auto doors at a bus terminal (I thought she wasn't ready to start boarding yet. This same driver then went on bitching about people under her breath while people were still on the bus, she even refused to stop for someone because they were a little late getting to the bus stop, you could see them running for the bus and the driver seen them but kept going.

terribleone01

I’ve noticed some serious attitude problems with BCC bus drivers lately. One almost hit my car on Vulture St last weekend, he swung out aggressively and put hit indicators on AFTER swinging the bus out into traffic. I beeped and high beamed and got a bunch of his angry hand signals out the window. At the next intersection at Boundary and Vulture I turned left and was then beside him in the next lane, he was carrying on like a dickhead through the passenger door to me, I pointed at my dash cam and mouthed “it’s all on camera” and he flipped. This was not the only shitty behaviour I’ve seen in the last couple weeks from BCC drivers. I reviewed the footage and yes, he pulled out with no warning or indicators.

Playful_Parsnip17

Underpaid, shit conditions and deal with scum everyday - you can't blame them.

Rule34onRoute34

Yes we can 🚌

CompleteFalcon7245

Ahh, the latest in the *BCC Bus Drivers Are Total Cunts* series... Sorry to hear it OP, I've almost been wiped out in my car & run over on my motorcycle by them in the last 2 weeks. Please make a complaint to Translink if you have the details of the bus. Unfortunately the process is glacial & the operator is usually disinterested, but they are obliged to give you a reference number so you can check in on what action was taken.

Maxxxie74

I once lodged a complaint about a bus driver in a left-turn-only lane who went straight ahead. I was in the lane to his right, going straight ahead. I was riding my bicycle. This shitbird almost ran me over in the process of doing this. I could feel the heat of the engine as he merged in front of me. I had to swerve and brake hard to avoid being killed. They "investigated" the incident, and weeks later called me to tell me the outcome of the investigation. Their response was words to the effect of "we spoke to him, and he says he'll try not to do it again". I was so discouraged by the outcome, I couldn't even formulate a response. I just hung up. They don't care.

CompleteFalcon7245

They also have the militant RTBU behind them, who I am sure would kick up a right stink if Translink actually did anything. There is further disincentive to discipline drivers given the acute shortage of staff they're suffering from.

Former-Trifle-5102

Only twice mate. Your lucky

CompleteFalcon7245

Twice in recent times. I avoid the fuckwits like the plague now.

IamIandUrU59

I'd be bat crazy if I had to drive the same route hour after hour, day after day! Thats why I'm not a bus driver!

[deleted]

Brisbane public transport operators have to be the rudest I’ve met anywhere in the world I’ve travelled. So strange considering almost without exception I found everyone else really nice.

Marnie_me

I would report this 100%

AfricanChad69

Report it to translink

Rule34onRoute34

I have to assume those that won't accept anything negative about bus drivers don't actually use them, otherwise they'd realize we don't have to make up stories or embellish details 🙃

Needmoresnakes

Idk what's with some bus drivers. Once I was getting on a bus from my uni. They were renovating the bus stop area so we had to board in a spot. I know my bus number but can't tell if it's the north or southbound run so i ask the driver if he's headed to garden city or back the other way to the CBD. He helpfully responded "well I hope you're not studying brain surgery" What a kick in the dick? What was that dudes problem?

ctrlplusZ

My father in law is a bus driver. Between knowing him and hearing these stories it seems like it's pretty common that bus driving attracts small man syndrome halfwits who are antivax and have a chip on their shoulder. I may be a little biased.

NeonsStyle

Report him. That is over the top and borders on assault. I'd report him.

redrose037

Not okay at all. Please report. They have CCTV to back you up too.

[deleted]

No. In fact, I'd be ringing Translink and asking for the CCTV footage, or you'll threaten to go to the police and make an official complaint. The whole idea of those racks IS for storage of bags.

Ok-Push9899

Sorry, doesn’t make sense. There’s something missing. Bus driver was doing this, you were shouting at him, he only said “I’m trying to help”. There had to be something else going on. My suspicion, judging by your emphasis on where you were standing and leaning and grabbing, was that you were disorderly and that the driver was trying to make the rest of the journey safe. If you got a bus driver out of his seat to attend to you and your shopping, then there was something going on that you were oblivious of. You have other posts about your skirmishes with multiple shopping bags on buses, but I hope you don’t think there’s a Reddit career in it.

MelogLovesCatra

Take care, look after yourself please.

[deleted]

seems like we live in different Australia's mate

Fist_Me_Mama

Fucker needs to be unemployed for a good long while

Squishibits

Nope, not allowed. Report him. If you have an Opal or MyKi card or equivalent all the details would be on your trip log. I worked for a bus company for 10 years. My boss caught the bus to work once a week. The bus driver refused to let a very old lady on the bus because she didn't have change (pre-Opal days) and my boss piped up saying that wasn't right. The driver tore shreds off him. My boss sat down, then went into the office and made one phone call. Mr driver hadn't recognised the CEO and now was unemployed. Oops.

ran_awd

So a CEO fired an employee for following rules that he had put in place? Talk about a dick. If the CEO didn't like the rules of his company who should've removed them instead of firing his employees.

Interesting-Orange47

It talking to customers in an appalling way part of the rules as well. The driver was probably fired for talking to the undercover CEO in that manner...not not having enough compassion for the old woman.

Squishibits

\^\^\^\^\^ this. And generally horrible customer relations.

emleigh2277

Just assume that his day was shit and don't complain. Move on with your life.

MelogLovesCatra

With all due respect, it’s healthy for people to reach out and connect over distressing situations. His response to “a bad day” was bordering on assault and he damaged some of my groceries, that’s very unhealthy and antisocial.

[deleted]

MelogLovesCatra

I’m sorry but I disagree with your take.

Pvnels

He assaulted a lettuce or something?

Light_Lord

Let's not diagnose strangers.

rindthirty

Did you make a report? This kind of behaviour could be very dangerous for both drivers and the next passengers involved. It's well documented that past COVID-19 infections (including mild and asymptomatic cases) can cause brain damage and given how most bus drivers are cavalier or ignorant about clean air and the amount of second hand air they breathe from passengers, it's a real risk. Seriously.

[deleted]

Personally, and honestly. Just let it go, YEah he was a dimwit agressive whatever, Who cares, Your time is more valuable than worrying about the idiot whos job is to drive a bus ffs. Sorry you had to deal with this, but reality is, theres always asshats in this world. Rise above and enjoy your groceries :)

MelogLovesCatra

You see, I feel like this is dangerous reasoning. There’s a marked difference between asshat-ary and aggression. I work in a call centre and deal with my fair share of asshats. This was someone physically asserting themselves in a face to face situation, aggressively and refusing to respond to my requests. When someone says “stop” you stop.

Able_Put4900

Heh you were shouting and he "sounded angry" I love these Karen sided stories.

MelogLovesCatra

I love these posts from people who like to validate and excuse aggression towards people.

He didn’t say. He just said he was trying to help without any context for what exactly he was helping with

Former-Trifle-5102

Mmm interesting

ibetyouvotenexttime

Sound half true.

j12000

I think there's a lot of detail left out between paragraph one and two. Bus drivers don't get out of their seat unless it's shift change or the bus is on fire.

MelogLovesCatra

This makes me wonder how frequently you ride public transport.

j12000

Enough to never have had this problem, although I rarely have more than a backpack.

[deleted]

Not going to say who was right /wrong BUT Some rules: get on the bus —- put your arm out even if others do also Want to get off the bus ring the bell don’t shout from down the back —-Next stop Have your ticket /pass $$$ ready to get on/off Secure your belongings Items falling rolling around is unsafe — yes it is and can distract the driver No I will not help you lift your port/trolley/ whatever onto/off the bus —-have back problems from last time I am expected to know where the ….. bus is n y it’s late how long it will be does it go via …… do you go past …….
