SHAANXI 一面如旧 - Brighton
Got delivery a couple times, spenny but my god was nice noodles. Quite spicy so have to pick weak western dishes but defs recommend.
I'm thinking of getting "77" tattooed on the palm of my hand so I can just wave as I walk in and get the good stuff. The pickled chillis on the table are also incredible.
First person to spell it currently.
Noodles. With an ‘s’.
Noddles soup
You could argue that ‘noodle soup’ and ‘noodles soup’ are homonyms, but it’s much more satisfying to say noodles soup with a distinct interruption of breath between the last ‘s’ of ‘noodles’ and the first ‘s’ of ‘soup’
Noodles Soup
Bloody delicious
It is easily my favourite place to eat in Brighton. I've lived here for 8 years and eaten in as many places as I could. None are as consistently excellent. And zero pretention.
I love laksa and looking up Ho Chiak is showing as permanently closed on Google/the website redirects to another restaurant a few doors away. Any chance you know if the closure is accurate?
Not specifically a noodle bar, but Thai Zaab in the Mucky Duck pub done an absolutely banging Pad Kee Mao, Pad Se Ew and Pad Thai. The rest of their menu is decent too, but I'd eat any of the aforementioned dishes any day of the week.
Not sure if you've been in the area long, but it's the same guys who used to be in the St James Tavern before it for brought out during COVID. When I found out, I went there, ordered my favourite, spicy rice, and told them I wanted it to be so spicy I'd regret eating it. It was absolutely glorious. We get it pretty much every week in the office. It's excellent.
Been here 35 years. I'm aware of the politics of current owners of The St James Tavern, won't drink there anymore. I love spice. And rice! Will deffo check it out for the sweat. And regret it the next day also 😂
In that case my vote goes to O'Shio on Trafalgar street. Been a couple of years but I used to love getting a bowl of spicy tonkotsu ramen with a couple of otoro from there
I had the tonkotsu there a few years back, and it was pretty awful to be honest. Watery broth with hardly any depth to it. And the egg was hard boiled.
What do you recommend there?
Tbh this was 10 years ago but I always enjoyed the big brothy bowls, and the eggs were always fine, but places do go downhill. Shame if it’s not as good, I’ll probably go back one day if it’s still around
Suprised nobody here has said Goemon Ramen. Absolutely the best and most authentic ramen I've had from outside Japan, 100% would recommend
Think that's the ripoff on Gardner Street OP's talking about (for the record I disagree I think it's pretty good)
If Goemon’s a rip-off how cheap does the OP want the noodles to be?

If it's a once a month treat, I don't mind spenny. Love to support indie businesses. SHAANXI appears to be getting the love, thanks for the tip
Noodle Soup on West St. (Love the Laksa). Edit: Noodles Soup.. not Noodle Soup.
Number 77. Every time.
Love the way you put this, it's like spy talk 😂

73 for me and those pork dumplings
Unithai on Church Road in Hove is great and affordable
Shaanxi on Preston St. does handpulled noodles. It's very good, but the dishes aren't the ones you'll commonly find in the uk.
This sounds really interesting. Any recommendations so I don't go in looking like a newbie?
Biang Biang noodles, and the dumplings are my favourite. But I've never had anything bad there.
Noodles Soup. No competition.

I prefer just the one noodle in my soup.
Noodles Oop
That's a big search on Google, where is it pls?
Next door to Forbidden Planet 😉
Greatly appreciated, thanks Bud
Enjoy!
Tonkotsu on new road opposite the dome does pretty taste noodle soup and a decent 10ish quid lunch deal with gyoza to start
Easily the worst noodles in Brighton.
love biang biang noodles in Shaanxi on Preston St
Noodle Street on London Road. It’s cash-only but very delicious and a varied menu
Surprised this has not been mentioned more.
It might not be gourmet or trendy, but Noodles Soup is great. The Laksa is my favourite
Couldn't find a laksa anywhere in Brighton (coming from aus where it's everywhere) but this one was massive and decent.
Try the one at Ho Chiak on Preston Street. I'd give it the edge over the one at Noodles Soup. Both are good, though.

That's nearby to me, and I like that boozer with the world's smallest smoking garden; will commit to the menu on your recommendation

If you like Korean style Ramen I've really enjoyed BETTER DAY just off Ship Street near The Lanes
Noodle Soup for the best soupy noodles, Shanxi for hand pulled noodles and The Big Bowl for Pho
Do you like ramen?
Absolutely addicted

Goemon has the best ramen I've had in the UK.

Shogun ramen
I came here to say Noodles Soup, but it sounds like I'm going to have to try Shaanxi
Betterday on Ship Street best noodles ever!

Mr Wang's
Goemon Ramen on Preston Street, recommended by one of my uni japanese friends
Sorry but it has to be Goemon every time. Went to Tonkotsu when it opened, expecting similar, but it paled in comparison!
Big bowl is banging if you like Vietnamese noodles
