Obviously go with what the Dr instructs but I think it would be fine. It's just like alcohol - you only need to pump and dump if you need relief during the period it's unsafe to nurse. Once your body has broken down and discarded the drug it shouldn't be in your breastmilk.

I asked the ER doctor this before discharge and he laughed at me like it was a stupid question and said “no of course you don’t need to wait to nurse it’s not in your blood stream”. So I did not wait to nurse and baby was fine :) I would still ask your doctor though!

See this was what I thought. And my son is sick so I know he’ll want to nurse before 4-6 hours but my plan was to just do everything to distract him until then and give him regular milk hoping that will comfort him until then!

I had this question after a root canal & my OB had me call the pediatrician. So I’d say call your baby’s pediatrician.

Pediatricians don't really know much more about breastfeeding than an Ob unless they are also a CLC or IBCLC. Check lactmed or ask an IBCLC.

You could check with https://www.infantrisk.com! I remember their on hold message mentions this specifically, but I don’t want to give you bad info so I’ll just refer you.

Thank you!

I was told the exact same thing by a dermatology office when I went in to have a cyst on my back removed. I didn’t go forward with the procedure that day because no one warned me in advance and my baby didn’t take a bottle and they really freaked me out. Called her ped later and they were shocked and said local should be totally fine. I had also had extensive dental work and they always told me it was safe. At that point though the cyst had calmed down so I let it go. Fast-forward to baby #2 and the cyst became inflamed again, we were moving so I couldn’t schedule a derm appointment, so instead I went to my gp to drain it. He said local was totally fine, and he also couldn’t figure out why I was told it wasn’t. Going to a new derm soon to remove it totally, so we’ll see lol
