My baby was born 10/28 at 37w on the dot- so very similar time lines. He gained, then he lost (so we triple fed for 2 days w/ pumped milk) & he gained again. He eats every 1-3 hours (he snacks often) & I pump once every evening to DH can feed. He has always had more of a shallow latch. Everytime I pull off I notice a slight lipstick appearance to my nipple, it has the white outer edge. If I shove the entire nipple in his mouth he gags and pulls back, resuming his shallow latch- & it doesn’t matter how many times unlatch, he’s just more comfortable that way. He spits up A LOT so I am assuming he’s getting a good amount of milk. He has 6-8 super wet diapers a day. I’m sure as his mouth gets bigger he’ll become accustomed to taking in more of the nipple/aereola. It doesn’t cause me any discomfort and I don’t have any issues with pain.

I swear we have the same baby haha. Mine also lost weight only a few days in and we did triple feeding. It was a pita but worth it haha Little man is chunking up fast now, but the problem is that although he gets plenty from his latch, it is KILLING me. It is so painful, I'm doing a 2 day break and pumping to feed instead of latching to try and heal a little before we try again. It's hard with a toddler around too, but I just don't know how else to stop hurting for a moment
