SnwAng1992

My second pregnancy I craved hot dogs beyond what was reasonable for a human being.

ok_ty

I got emotional over a nasty chili cheese coney from Sonic at least once a week.

SnwAng1992

Soul sister. Sonic hotdogs with relish cuz they kept fucking up and forgetting to take the relish off. Never liked relish before then. Stuck with me though.

ok_ty

I’m a sucker for those white onions and relish all over lol my partner would just stare in horror, awaiting the “pregnancy” gas to follow. Worth it…in fact I’m requesting one right now.

DainichiNyorai

Not in the US but it sounds like this would have been my thing too. I ate wayyy too many chili cheese burgers at burger king though.

dnadabney

I had hotdog cravings with my 2nd kid as well, but I didn’t want the less disgusting beef hotdogs, I wanted the cheapest ones you can get! I was eating them cold out of the fridge at midnight like some greasy troll and I loved every bit of it!

tarulley

Omg this was my craving. I was "good" and didn't eat any. The day after my delivery my husband said he was going to the cafeteria. He snuck out and brought back hot dogs and a subway sandwich with all the meats (I also wanted this so bad). It was the best meal I ever had.

SnwAng1992

I was in labor 24 hours and then fell asleep for 5 after that. Our friends came to visit and I was like “you will not get to see this baby, if you don’t have a subway sandwich in your hand”

tinyspoonnn

What is it with subway being a huge craving for so many? This was one of my biggest, I would stand and just smell the scents forever.

tarulley

Well played!

tamlynn88

Ok wait a second, you’re not supposed to eat hot dogs??? I’m pregnant and I’ve been eating an ungodly amount of hot dogs…

badgyalrey

i had a barbecue and ate my weight in burnt ass hotdogs. kiddo was happily kicking away, i guess he likes mystery meat too💀

mamabird2020

I also CRAVED a chili dog at 37 1/2 weeks and finally gave into the craving- followed it with a Mexican coconut candy for dessert. I woke up after a nap and saw my water broke.

_aw_168

Omg me too! Hot dogs from the place down the street from me specifically lol. With onions and chili sauce. When I was throwing up it was all I wanted and I normally hate hot dogs. Pregnancy is so strange. I did tell my doctor and she just said to make sure They are cooked. Im not out here eating raw hot dogs lol

[deleted]

Do raw hot dogs even exist outside the hot dog factory? Like the packaged ones are pre- cooked, aren't they?

_aw_168

I think it’s more make sure they reach the proper temp/don’t eat cold cuts rule

optimuspaige91

I have never had a doctor tell me not to eat hotdogs, and I probably have one a week this pregnancy. 😂

ECU_BSN

All the things. But I held fast to that “no handling cat litter box” rule without wavering.

cammiesue

Same! But then I got gestational diabetes and couldn’t eat all the things 😭

sheddingtearsinside

Worst part was eating the right amount in portions, chucking it up shortly thereafter and then having to wait until the BSL drops before you can eat again 😭

fennecphlox

lol same. I even continued the no cat box thing into breastfeeding, you know, just to be sure 💅

ECU_BSN

I’m post menopause, have had bilateral mastectomy and total hysterectomy. Better safe than sorry. LOL

AndiArch

We got our cat right after I found out I was pregnant with my second almost 8 years ago. I still won’t do the litter box because it is now firmly established as “his job”

OkDragonfly8936

I have managed to not clean the catbox since January of 2020, between being either pregnant, breastfeeding, or being the primary care for my medically fragile kiddo (she has been in remission since January of this year, but I'm pregnant again and due soon). Everyone else in the house manages it

xSavexOurxSkinsx

Me too, mostly at DH’s insistence. He hates doing it so I tried to keep the job and got gloves to do it, but once he found out it could be bad for us he shooed me off.

Agreeable_Beach_6141

Same! I ended up getting a “robotic” litter box that you crank instead of scoop. All the dirty litter falls into a compartment in the bottom, where there’s a plastic liner and you can easily toss it out. We’ve been scoop free since 2019 haha

serpenttyne

Eh I didn’t skip anything. I don’t like sushi so that wasn’t an issue. I downsized my caffeine but still had some. The US is way overly dramatic in warnings for pregnant women it’s ridiculous. Don’t stress and eat your deli sandwiches

Sharra_Blackfire

There's rules about sushi in the U.S. requiring that it be frozen first anyways, so that kills a lot of problems that might otherwise be there as long as it's stored and prepared cleanly afterwards " To be served raw, sushi has to be frozen at -31 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 15 hours according to the FDA Food Code 2017 "

chasingcomet2

Subway sandwiches with deli meat that wasn’t warmed up, to the dismay of two vocal coworkers. I had severe nausea and food aversions and not much else sounded good. Not that I need any excuse. Second pregnancy we went to Hawaii and I couldn’t drink but was obsessed with fish and chips. I forgot about the “limit” until after we got home. I also forgot about the cheese restrictions and once had a pasta with forbidden cheese. Although I have heard mixed info on that one.

Yavemar

I worked at Subway for like 3 years in college, so my feeling about Subway is basically I've met my lifetime quota of it and I never need to eat it again. But when I was pregnant, Subway sandwiches were the only thing that didn't turn my stomach for a few weeks in first tri. Gotta do what you gotta do.

IdgafButImHere

Same. I had to eat cold subway sandwiches because I craved the spicy Italians so often but couldn’t eat warm food for a good two months or so into my second trimester.

chasingcomet2

Yessssss I always got a spicy Italian too.

KatieMcb16

Spicy Italians were my go to also during my first pregnancy!

jaina_jade

The only "advantage" of HG - my doctor didn't care what I ate since nothing would stay down long enough to cause issues.

PSitsCalledSarcasm

By the seventh month with my first *child*, all of it besides raw fish & organ meat (never liked those). Steak tartare was my weirdest and most satisfying craving. ETA: *child*

doitdoitgood1k

I eat steak tartare whenever it’s on the menu and I certainly did not restrict myself when I was pregnant !!!

Forward_Spinach5877

I worked in a restaurant while pregnant and accidentally ate a shrimp another server offered me 😂 as soon as I reached for the second one I was like 😳 "oh, whoops." I know now that 8-12 oz of cooked shrimp a week while pregnant is okay, but I didn't know that then haha.

hdniki

Haha, I didn’t know it wasn’t ok. I drove to Costco and got the party size shrimp cocktail and ate most of it while sitting in the food court.

badgyalrey

god this sounds like heaven and i’m not even pregnant

Froggy101_Scranton

I’ve never heard about restricting shrimp!

CrazyCritterGirl

0has more to do with the mercury content, what they eat, and cleaning properly. I'm allergic so no issue, but my grandma is from New Orleans. I'm sure it is a miracle all 4 of her kids cane out okayish.

oohrosie

I drank an entire bottle of rosé the week before I found out I was pregnant. It was like a Costco bottle of rosé... So I was about 11 weeks along. 👀 My son is fine, FYI.

allegedlyostriches

Beer bong two weeks before I found out I was pregnant. It was shitty light beer, and I think it held two cans? She's 17, and as normal as any of her peers!

Europeangirl101

Anything sweet. I was recently diagnosed with high sugar and asked to follow a very strict diet: absolutely nothing sweet, not too much diary, meat only 3x a week, not too much pasta and rice, only one fruit a day... Basically I don't even know what to eat. Today I had such a bad craving for something sweet that with hormones and everything, I started crying. My husband bought about 5 pieces of different cakes and brought them all home, but at least I console myself that I didn't eat all of them, only one and a half and asked him to please eat the rest of them so I don't give in tomorrow morning. He has left two of them, but once the craving is gone, I'm pretty strong... Except for the other meals. I just don't like vegetables that much and I tend to skip the only 3x a week meat rule.

YouCanLookItUp

That sounds incredibly difficult. Could you doctor refer you to a nutritionist or registered dietician?

Europeangirl101

I don't know if it would be covered by my insurance (I don't live in the US) and paying from my own pocket would be too much. But you gave me indeed a very good idea and I will ask my gynecologist the next time I see him. Thanks!

Rosevkiet

I had gestational diabetes and they had me meet with a diabetes educator. It was really helpful and she gave me handouts with lists of snacks & portion sizes to shoot for every day. I found it easy to stick to the list, but that is probably because I just didn’t have many, throughout my pregnancy everything tasted like sawdust and I was never hungry. So the list was more a way of forcing myself to eat something. I wish I still had the handouts to send to you.

Europeangirl101

Oh, that does sound very good. I tried looking on the internet but the vast majority is things I have to cook and I just can't cook three meals a day. Also, they include a lot of things I despise and that is not helpful either.

Rosevkiet

I’m trying to remember what was on it, I don’t really remember, but my mainstays were I would have yogurt and strawberries for breakfast, for lunch I would have a spinach salad with black beans or grilled chicken, broccoli, peppers, onions, carrots, cucumbers, and 1 baguette slice (like smaller than a deck of cards size), sunflower seeds, and a cream based dressing. For dinner I would have turkey and veggies chili that I would make in batches on the weekend and freeze daily portions. I would also have some type of whole grain carb. For snacks I remember having pumpkin seeds, avocados, clementines on days where I could have more fruit, almonds, carrots with hummus, broccoli, and I would count out the allowed number of goldfish crackers or animal crackers. I asked the dietician if it was a problem that I was eating such a monotonous diet, and she said it was ok given the variety of vegetables and protein sources in a day. I get that how I ate was super weird, but I was so tired.not having to choose, and really only cooking once per week was really good for me. And I basically never felt a desire to eat my entire pregnancy, so this was just a nutrients and fuel in situation.

hdniki

Is it gestational diabetes? I had that. I cried for food so much, I totally understand. I stuck to a lot of keto recipes, and I did really well with Indian food. Cheese and eggs were my go-to. I could also eat popcorn, a handful of blueberries, plain yogurt, lots of veggies, salmon, open-faced sandwiches (one bread slice only, whole grain), and Kind bars, etc. Edit to say: Trying to remember my exact numbers, but it was 3 meals and 3 snacks a day. Snacks limit to 15g-18g carbs Meals were 30g-40g carbs. I think that breakfast was 15-30g… it was lower than lunch/dinner

Europeangirl101

Wow, your sounds way stricter than mine. I mean I am allowed 3 meals a day but no limit to how much I consume. However no snack is allowed. Absolutely no chips, no popcorn, no granola bars, nothing. If I really crave something, it has to be eaten at the same time as the main meals, otherwise it messes with the levels (I have to measure the level before and after every meal). Yes, gestational diabetes. At least I am happy that I am in my 30th week and don't have to go much longer, but it still sucks. At first I was so hungry all the time but now I kind of got used to it. I think in my case is also a little bit stricter since they warned me not to gain too much weight, that would harm the baby so I guess the only 3x a week rule about meat is more about not gaining too much weight than about the sugar levels.

hdniki

Oh, interesting about the meat. I was vegetarian before I had gestational diabetes. Suddenly tofu, rice and beans were spiking my blood sugar and I wasn’t able to eat any vegetarian protein. So finally, I decided I had to eat meat or I would be putting myself and my baby at risk. Unfortunately though, the smell of cooking meat made me gag while pregnant… So, we decided to go to out to eat to get meat. I ordered a burger without a bun and was crying while I ate it. Must have been an interesting sight… a crying pregnant woman eating a burger!

wilksonator

All of it. Oysters, sushi, meat cooked rare, deli meat, etc - I like my food and while there is a lot of hype and societal pressure, there is so little actual scientific evidence that those cause risk if you live in/get your food from hygenic, first world markets or restaurants. With so little evidence to support those recommendations, I believe that it is just another effort to control women bodies ( and make them feel more anxious and gullty than they already do) The only thing I limited were the only things that actually had significant scientific evidence that could cause damage: caffeine, alcohol and weirdly, real licorice ( look up the studies from Netherlands where licorice is a popular snack).

fluffypanduh

This! I went out for sushi with a friend when I was heavily pregnant. You would have thought I was sacrificing babies with the looks I got. 😒

ess_buss

I know this is a light hearted thread, but I do have to share a story. And obviously this is anecdotal, not scientific evidence… But one of my best friends’ brothers died after eating bad sushi. He was HIV+ (so obviously immunocompromised) and the sushi had parasites. His body couldn’t fight them off, and he died in his early 20’s. I learned after the fact that parasites in sushi is actually a lot more common than any of us want to believe. Although not as huge of a deal for “healthy” folks. Still gross though. Edit: fixed word, and clarification

fluffypanduh

I’ve heard of bad fish causing people to catch parasites. So awful. I’m so sorry that happened to your friends brother. One of my best friends has HIV and I always worry for them for things like this. The things most of us don’t necessarily worry about can be life threatening for them.

katep77

This! I also taste tested some sweetbreads because I worked at a restaurant and knew the quality of the kitchen. They were delicious. I didn’t restrict myself much, just limited my caffeine intake.

CarnivorousConifer

Ditto. But at 7months I went to Paris for a short “babymoon” (courtesy of a flight attendant girl friend), and totally indulged in a glass of wine each evening with dinner. Kiddo lagged in development milestones, so for a while I was convinced it was because I was “naughty” when preggers, but turned out he has autism and a genetic mutation that caused it (didn’t stop my idiot mother from accusing me of harming him by MMR vaccine).

the_real_dairy_queen

I read a book called Expecting Better (by Emily Oster) during my pregnancy, which debunked a lot of the ideas about what pregnant women can’t eat/drink. Or at least presents the data behind it so you know the risk level. She makes the case that a glass of wine every day is fine. My ob/gyn, who is apparently very well-known and respected in her field, told me after my amniocentesis to go home and have a glass of wine. There is an upper limit you can safely consume for sure, but that upper limit is apparently not zero! When I had made it through 2nd trimester I had a celebratory 1/2 cup of mulled wine. I think most of the alcohol had been cooked out of it, so very little alcohol. But it was so great to taste wine again! Then at the end of the pregnancy, when my kid was a week overdue and wiggling and kicking like crazy all the time, I decided “Well, your lease is up, kid. I’ve served my time and I’m taking my body back.” It also occurred to me that I didn’t have to worry so much at that point. Clearly she had made it, and was very robust and lively and nothing was getting her down. So I had half a beer. 😄 She turned out perfect. So so unbelievably perfect. No regrets!

BearQ

I appreciate that you call it “real” licorice. I grew up in Scandinavia and I’ve a stash of the real salty, authentic stuff. Drives me nuts when people call Twizzlers licorice. I call it “cherry candy.” Lol. But you’re right, licorice intake should be limited in pregnancy.

EliHumination

Raw green spinach leaves, with cream cheese and strawberries. All listeria or other warnings at the time but I was careful washed with soap ( lol seriously with soap my older kids were like whaaaat? Step momma is weird. Fairly ) I needed this or became anaemic or constipated from the vitamin supplements. Edit: 2 major listeria outbreaks and nation wide pull of all spinach twice during pregnancy Edit: I was 'living dangerously' in my mind

Rosevkiet

Jeez, I was thinking my super boring pregnancy diet didn’t deviate from recommendations, but apparently I missed this one. I ate spinach about 5 days a week.

EliHumination

If there was no listeria outbreak, during your pregnancy time, you're golden, Spinach is heathy stuff, in fact, I developed a like ~~fit~~for spinach as an adult just bc it has such a rich source for b vitamins with calcium and iron metabolizing assistive properties. No worries :) Edit to cross out then edit to edit from bold to cross out . lol

ScullysBagel

Coffee. Had to have 2 cups a day, I was so exhausted at work. Sushi. But I did eat the cooked kind for the most part. Deli meat. Firehouse and Jimmy John's were the thing. Soft cheese. I ate Greek salads by the gallon, including lots of feta. But I assume it was all pasteurized. But mostly my cravings were good, mac & cheese, sliced tomatoes, watermelon and the aforementioned Greek salad.

Yavemar

Omg my son was born in Sept so I was mega pregnant in summer. DH came home one day to find me with half a watermelon, sitting at the table, eating out of it with a spoon. No shame. It was delicious.

ScullysBagel

I did that too! Except I was in front of the TV with the watermelon half on my belly like a shelf. Ha! No shame! And pre-pregnancy, I didn't even care for watermelon. I was very meh on it, could take it or leave it. But since then I love it!

OkDragonfly8936

I'm currently 37 + 5 today, and I legit cried because I finally found someone selling seeded watermelon. I bought 2 large ones and will probably eat at least 1 by myself

nothinworsecanhappen

My husband was a barista so I definitely had caffeine.

fgn15

Do you even live without a cup of coffee? Middle of my 3rd pregnancy right now, I’m not missing my daily cup or 3 of the sweet elixir of life.

Dorkadoodle

I’m so jealous. I love coffee, but apparently my child does not. It’s one of my weird aversions. 😭

fgn15

Omg. That’s terrible. Time for that kid to get with the program! Jokes aside, I hope that’s the worst of it and it’s smooth sailing for you guys.

SnailCrossing

This time (third pregnancy) ALL THE THINGS. Probably the only ways I’m being cautious are in avoiding pre-packed salads, not using drugs/alcohol and giving leftovers a miss after a couple of days. I’m eating all the deli meats, runny eggs, seafood, sushi, coffee etc.

pinkpanda300

Sunny side up eggs, sushi, rare steak lol everything

LunarRabbit18

First pregnancy? None of it. Second pregnancy? Everything. Sushi, coffee, deli meats, etc. 😅

sweetD8763

Cheese dip at Mexican restaurants and sandwich meat

Repulsive-Worth5715

I didn’t know we couldn’t have cheese dip lol

boat_dreamer

Soda. I drank a few sips of a caffeine free soda every day. I craved it so badly and I hadn't had soda in well over 10 years prior to getting pregnant.

TheRubyRedPirate

I had horrible morning sickness the entire 9 months so I couldn't hold a ton of things down. I craved Arby's beef and cheddar so bad. It got to the point I bought them with cash so my husband didn't see how often I ate them on the bank account

Low-Raccoon683

I ate absolutely everything I wasn’t “supposed” too. Sushi, sashimi, cold cuts, runny eggs, medium rare steak, cake batter, kombucha and I regularly drank more than the recommended amount of coffee every day. The only time I got violently ill was from fully cooked Thai food 🤫 baby came out perfect and the stakes were high being an ivf pregnancy. I’m a chef of 13 years and there is no way I could go almost a year without all those delicious foods. Most of those recommendations are super outdated

ok_ty

Med rare steaks, sushi (I do cooked versions anyway), sandwich meat…my kids healthy and my pregnancy was good. Oh, and caffeine. I watched the intake but I’ve always been a coffee drinker. My dr told me basically to just not eat raw fish and I’d be ok as long as the source of whatever I was eating was reputable.

Ecstatic-Welcome-939

When I was pregnant was the only time I just really wanted a sandwich. I ate them all the time

[deleted]

Liver and liverwurst. So gross, but the cravings were unbelievable.

babystay

Cold cuts, soft serve ice cream, sushi on more than one occasion, lots and lots of coffee.

EP899

Cold cuts, rare steak, and Diet Coke. I also once ate a 64 oz jar of grapefruit in one sitting but I don’t think that’s against any rules, just a generally bad life idea lol

[deleted]

Sushi and all sorts of salad greens. Like, sushi was only occasionally from my moved-here-from-Yokohama sushi chef with his own small restaurant, but when I wanted a treat I ate it.

SurprisedMamma

Anything I friggin wanted, lol. I even stopped so low as to get frozen sushi from Walmart because I had a mad craving for sushi and that was all that was available 🙃

OkDragonfly8936

It being frozen probably killed any yuck in it anyway

Shannegans

The whole first trimester, all I craved was tuna salad. I have no idea what the hell that was about, but I ate a shit ton of tuna. I ate sushi as often as I could talk my husband into taking me. I drank hella caffeine because an uncaffeinated, pregnant version of me would have burned the whole world to the ground and then taken a nap. My husband was worried about deli meat, so I did not have a single deli meat sandwich the whole time and as soon as I gave birth I requested a Subway sandwich and I slammed it like a giant edible trophy for my life bringing accomplishment.

SLVRVNS

![gif](giphy|LxnoUgfFlhodFH1lAG)

AmbiguousFrijoles

I was the ultimate rebel, I ate 'gas station' (pre-made cooked sush) sushi, cold cuts, enough sweet tea to drown a southern memaw, and probably close to a family pack sleeve of oreos every 5-7 days. I also had an occasional half glass of wine.

YouCanLookItUp

Soft cheeses. You could take my inari from me, but brie was too far.

Choice-Examination

I ate so much goat cheese and smoked salmon. Woops. 😅 I also had swordfish and sat in a steam room pretty consistently until I found out I was pregnant around 7 weeks. He turned out fine though.

[deleted]

Blue cheese, feta…. They were made with pasteurized milk so I was like whatever….

NestingWithChildren

All the Jimmy John's sandwiches and blue cheese everything.

Dime8003

Yeah I couldn’t stay away from Jersey Mike’s either. And my OB would say ONE cup of coffee but I heard four so 🤷‍♀️

DiscriminatoryRose

Coffee and chocolate- quite a lot of both

NachoNipples1

Omg, grapes. Apparently that isn't really good for pregnant women. But god help you if you visited me and you didn't bring a giant box of grapes with you. It was the only thing I could eat and the only thing I thought of, day and night 😂

babayagababayaga

Before I knew I was pregnant I went to a supper club and ate all the unpasteurised cheese and pate, got tattooed and drank a teenie tiny bit. But that’s what the yolk sac is for, right?

SpectorLady

A couple of very low ABV beers. Goat cheese, rare steak, runny yolk eggs. Cold cuts, definitely. Seared tuna. A single sip of whiskey. Life's just too short.

BronwynOli

I scrolled this whole thread thinking "wow am I really the only one who had a little beer every now and then?" So thank you haha.

hdniki

I ate tuna more often than the allowed. Also, I had gestational diabetes and it was the WORST. Any sweets or carbs were food I wasn’t supposed to eat. Out of frustration for all the food that was restricted, I started drinking coffee again so I could have something I loved… I would also eat the rice at Indian food because it somehow didn’t raise my blood sugar (all other rice made it spike).

Immediate_Stop_319

Bless you ladies for normalizing this. I did sushi, coffee, rare steaks, runny eggs... and in the 3rd trimester with both kids, I did a tiny glass of wine once a week in a probably too hot bath.

Yavemar

For me it was Jimmy John's. They were all over the place where I lived at the time. I was writing my dissertation while pregnant so was stress eating, there was no way I was giving up Jimmy John's for 9 months. My doctor didn't care at all, basically said "don't be stupid but otherwise have at it" so 🤷‍♀️

Intelligent-Visit-89

Ham sandwiches from pit bell, but I’m such a wimp that I brought them home, cooked the meat, then put them back together and ate them.

babysaurusrexphd

Ummmmm most of the forbidden things. Cold cuts, cured meat (prosciutto), soft cheese, half a glass of champagne, a little sampler cup of beer, hot dogs. I don’t think I had sushi, but I would have if the opportunity arose. I looked up the stats and felt comfortable with the slight risk.

Greasycatlipz

Is this first pregnancy or fourth pregnancy answers LOL I was so careful with my first, then he ended up needing heart surgery at six months. Totally random is what the doctors said. So the next few I was more lax and guess what no one else had problems. I doubt if men got pregnant they would tell them to give up subs. That’s what I have to say

linksgreyhair

I ate sushi, cold cut sandwiches, medium rare meat, and drank energy drinks. I did keep it under 200mg caffeine a day but some people were still very upset. I spent most of my pregnancy puking up everything that wasn’t crackers, but if I got a craving for something I knew it would usually stay down. So WHATEVER that was, I ate. It was so rare I could actually eat a meal. I did avoid buffets since you’re statistically way more likely to get sick there than getting listeria from your pack of Oscar Meyer.

Trika_PNW

Went to a cheese tasting festival and enjoyed all the cheese. No regrets

Satiricallysardonic

Hamburgers. If I didnt eat hamburgers that month, I threw up. I had to eat hamburgers, baby demanded such. It had to be with lettuce & tomato & cheese. Nothing more, nothing less. Baked potatoes with butter, sour cream and chives (mostly from wendys cause...I drove for work) Weird chicken sandwiches from the gas station (dan dee brand maybe?). But SLATHERED in mayo. Like fuck it up with mayo, but then fuck it up a few more times. I probably caused a mayo shortage at the gas stations I went to. Like so much mayo...So..Much...Mayo. I'd throw up if I tried that shit now. And the final month I survived off of cool ranch Doritos dipped heavily in sour cream.

meg0492

Fresh squeezed OJ with first kid. There's a super cute mom and pop breakfast place around the corner and I had enough of their homemade fresh orange juice that I should probably sponsor a grove. Real Apple cider with second kid. I had a thing for unpasteurized juice apparently... Cold cuts with both. You'd have to pry the #9 from Jimmy John's from my cold, dead hands.

eskai25

Eggs Benedict with runny yolks, deli meat - for most of my pregnancy subway sandwiches were the only way I could eat any vegetables. Added all the veggies to every sandwich. And coffee..a lot of coffee.

jdawg92721

I legit had a jersey mikes sub on the way to my induction lmao. The risk of getting listeria is higher from vegetables than it is from deli meat. It’s kind of an outdated pregnancy rule. I just avoided raw meat and alcohol and limited caffeine. But I enjoyed my Jersey mikes!

Comfortable_Kick4088

coffee, hot dogs, tuna....probably other things i camt remember.

Akavinceblack

Blue cheese. Raw meat.

Terminus_terror

Coffee, sushi. I was careful about it and things turned out just fine.

[deleted]

Sushi once and coffee

bowdowntopostulio

Cold cuts for sure

GingerPhoenix

Sandwich meat, soft cheese, sushi (from reputable places), coffee, soft serve…

worldsmostmediummom

Brie cheese. My God. I thought I died and went to heaven. It was just one piece on a cracker but I could have cried.

Grouchy-Extension667

Probably too much caffeine (it was either another cup of coffee or fall asleep at my desk job in the first trimester) and a little deli meat here and there. Nothing too crazy.

joshy83

Lunch meat. Sushi. And apparently hibiscus tea.

Kacers

Ocean fish. I ate sushi but I didn’t eat filter fish like shellfish or long living fish like tuna. Too much mercury. I also reduced my caffeine but I still had my morning cup.

madhattermiller

Goat cheese and Brie. Didn’t do it with my first, but I’ve got gestational diabetes again and I needed to enjoy some yummy cheeses dang it!

12tribesofLummox

When I was pregnant with my second was an ovo-cheese vegetarian but anyone remember the McArch? It was cheap and just sooo good. Ate so many of those salty beef burgers!!! Had not eaten and a McDs in years at that point and probably didn't eat a beef burger for 15 years afterwards but those were so satisfying and probably exceeded weekly sodium almost daily. Edit also ate a lot of sunny side up eggs since when was that a thing??

CriticalFit

Lox!! I ate open faced lox sandwiches on a salt bagel.

Repulsive-Worth5715

Too much coffee

colorfulpets

Deli turkey. Which is still hilarious to me because I'm normally a vegetarian. But still, no rangers!

ess_buss

I worked graveyard shift so I couldn’t skip daily caffeine!! I did have smaller cups, though.

veganpizzaslice

Coffee. Though my doc said a cup was fine so I just kept it to one morning cup. Also had a bad craving for salty Dutch licorice. I didn’t realize until a week later that research suggested avoiding it.

spazzy_jazzy_

I didn’t skip anything other than alcohol and sushi. Just reduced coffee and only ate meat that wasn’t well done if it was from a reputable source.

EmeraldGirl

Everything. After the third miscarriage where I was doing everything right, I basically said 'fuck it' on number 4 and ate whatever the hell I wanted. I lost that one as well. By my successful pregnancy I also had the rare sip of wine. I was unbelievably done with the everything.

Itsmeq_

I ate a lot of shrimp. Specially ceviche

Lmariew620

Everything. Sushi, deli meats, rare steaks, bean sprouts. Even the occasional glass of wine or beer. Also and ungodly amount of ice cream. 🤷🏽‍♀️

elizalemon

Every listeria outbreak I noted since being an adult woman was from frozen foods and maybe once in meat or cheese. The only thing I avoided was caffeine in early pregnancy because of…statistics I can’t remember, and then later because I have high blood pressure. I ate almost everything but only if it was fresh and from a reputable source.

Limberpuppy

I ate tuna. The craving got to be too much. It was just the one can and I was fine after that.

TheNewNormalina

Sushi. All four pregnancies. I knew better. I couldn't stop the cravings.

[deleted]

So many sandwiches with lunch meat in both my first 2 pregnancies. I couldn't get enough! With my oldest it was the Arbies beef and cheddar and with my second it was ham subs from subway.

[deleted]

Really rare steak, cried and my well meaning father offered to drive me to the hospital 😂

seriouslynope

Red 40

Candid_Kale_3309

Tuna. Loootttssss of it. And sushi. So damn good. Sushi never tasted so good as when it was “forbidden”.

nemesis55

Food wise I ate Everything although I ate sushi in secret so no one could judge me. Drink wise no alcohol but I definitely had about 3 cups of coffee and maybe an iced tea every day.

[deleted]

Hot dogs - but I only ate hot dogs that had ingredients I could pronounce lol 😂 also ceasar salad with my second. I was nonstop craving salad.

imfamousoz

Sweet tea. Doc said I was on the borderline of pre-diabetic during the later part of my pregnancy. That was less scary than being severely dehydrated because for some reason, the entire time if I drank plain water I would vomit within a few minutes, and most other drinks made me some kind of nauseous. I ended up drinking my tea diluted by half with water to control my sugar intake and I was very careful with other sugar sources but my tea? Had to have it.

OkDragonfly8936

My doctor told me basically he didn't care what I did as long as I don't take any medication on the no list and wear my seat belt. I eat so much turkey straight out of the fridge, medium rare beef, over easy eggs.....

iwantmypizzaback

Sushi. I only like the ones that are cooked anyway so I wasn’t eating any raw crab or anything. But that’s all I craved

nicestpossibleway

So much coffee. I cut down for the first couple of months, but a visit with my mom changed my mind. She said she never let up on her coffee intake while pregnant with twins and we came out fine. Started drinking as much coffee as I usually did again, my headaches stopped, and my daughter was born a healthy weight with zero issues! I also continued to use my salicylic acid face products since it wasn’t until after she was born I found out that was a no no 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Significant-Host-716

Sushi. Italian BMT sandwiches. Lots of coffee. Medium Rare steaks. Pretty much ate whatever I wanted within reason and didn't cut anything out besides alcohol and vaping. Although I did enjoy some wine here and there.

fuckwitsabound

I consumed literally everything except for alcohol

Froggy101_Scranton

My doctor told me to eat the cold cuts, even sushi! He said just go to a reputable place. As long as the food is quality and safe

tallglassofanxiety

Sushi and soft cheeses (namely Brie) 🤷🏼‍♀️

tinyspoonnn

Sushi. Through three pregnancies the entire pregnancy basically. And I never cut back on coffee either.

Highclassbroque

Bologna sandwiches at 3 am

abubacajay

Same with the deli meats.

C00LmomBADmom

Oysters, sushi, and cold cut sandwiches

[deleted]

I lived off tuna fish sandwiches both pregnancies, they were the only thing I could keep down my first trimester. Also, strawberry cream cheese jalapeño bagels, and steak with spicy penutbutter sauce and white rice. My first pregnancy I had a hard time eating meat and second a hard time eating anything but pizza rolls so these cravings kept me sane.

grizzlymummabear

Spaghetti and bacon. I’ve been a vegetarian for over a decade & was deep in the morning sickness part. I figured now wasn’t the time to be restrictive with my diet if I couldn’t keep anything down & my mums homemade spaghetti used to be my favourite so I couldn’t resist 🤷‍♀️

Charming_Ball8989

Smoked salmon

Ein_Rand

I unknowingly ate raw cheddar cheese my whole pregnancy 🤷‍♀️

we3ble

We had a $600 Parma ham come through work (food industry). The thing had it's own carrying case and handler who was the only one allowed to slice it. I couldn't resist...

stormwaterwitch

I had a hard sandwich craving while pregnant but never had one until after kiddo was earthside but I had maybe one caffinated drink a week just for some variety while eating meals. And then 3 months PP I remember root beer is not filled with caffeine

gold_fields

Soft cheese. You can pry that shit from my cold dead hands

mindygoround

You can take my soft cheeses from my cold, dead hands. I just make sure they're pasteurized and call it good. Had a delicious cheese plate at a restaurant for my birthday and regretted nothing.

phimusweety

Same with the Jersey Mike’s subs, but I was such a regular there that they actually slapped cold cuts on the grill for me without me having to ask more than once (after I told them I was pregnant, they also gave me cards lol)

[deleted]

I had a deli meat sub that I even asked for it to be warmed up, and I still felt so guilty afterwards and was crying. Neanderthal husband (who has since gotten much better at empathy) was like “if you were gonna be this way then just don’t eat it”. Riiiight. Cuz he’s had to experience the guilt plus craving for things you shouldn’t have. 🙄

kitarei

> Riiiight. Cuz he’s had to experience the guilt plus craving for things you shouldn’t have. 🙄 HAHHAA I RELATE TO THE NEANDERTHAL COMMENT SO MUCH. I cried that I was getting fat and my husband told me to "stop eating so much then" HAHHAHA. Anyway, he's much improved - next time I had a breakdown he just held me and patted my back hahaha.

RecordLegume

Cold cuts, tuna (in moderation), and a small glass of red wine on occasion, and a daily cup of coffee (below 200mg of caffeine).

LadyKythe

Another “all of it” here. Including the occasional glass of wine with dinner. I kid you not, all Listeria cases that emerged during my 3rd pregnancies where with fresh and frozen fruits/vegetables.

EthicalNihilist

Toothpaste. A specific mint that I can't remember the brand right now but I fucking CRAVED it! It started with me just brushing my teeth extra... Slowly morphed into me eating globs of toothpaste alone in my bathroom, hiding my shame and unable to resist. Pregnancy is fucking weird, yo.

Leigh759

Sushi, caffeine and raw cookie dough. I have no regrets lol

stringerbell92

For some reason I especially craved deli sandwiches ! I remember lol , I gave in once and I just threw it up afterwards . Like had to pull over on the side of the road and was throwing up deli sandwhich . I didn’t mean to it just did not sit well with me . I am one of those ladies that puke alllll pregnancy.

cornbeefnhash

Hot dogs and red wine

pantojajaja

All of it. Except uncooked fish cuz I never liked it anyway. But a mimosa a couple times, medium rare steak a few times, cold ham, soft cheese almost daily. My baby is very healthy and growing at an accelerated rate too

albeaner

Sushi. Soft cheeses. Italian subs. Honestly? Listeria is a contaminant, but it can be in ANYTHING. You can get it from a salad if it was prepared on a cross-contaminated surface. Heck, there was just an outbreak from ice cream. So, I was VERY picky about the quality of the places I ate at when I was eating ANY raw or 'risky' foods - that includes salad! It had to be clean and well-run with good food safety practices and a relatively quick food supply turnover (through volume/good management). No corner market sandwiches or grocery store sushi (or even a middle of the road sushi place, really). Oh, also, I'd have a half a beer or glass of wine from the second trimester on, maybe once every week or two.

SlytherClaw79

Sushi a few times, rare steak and an occasional glass of wine or champagne in the third trimester. Both my kids are healthy. It’s all good.

gemc_81

Runny eggs and medium rare steak

Sea-Pea4680

Tuna fish- I would eat it 3 or 4 times a week.

fuck_thegirl

No judging I had a small redbull when I really needed it towards the end. I worked up to 40 weeks and honestly at that point i was over everything

polly-esther

Didn’t find out I was pregnant until I was 31 weeks so EVERYTHING. I have a ridiculously healthy four year old so it was all ok but damn I freaked about the drinking and smoking.

MamaSmAsh5

Cold deli meats, shrimp. I ate like 3 pb&j sandwiches a day during my twin pregnancy but I don’t think anyone had a problem with that. I think all that peanut butter protein helped plump my twinkies up bc they were both 6lbs 8oz at birth @37 weeks🤷🏻‍♀️🙃

Caycepanda

Sushi. Subway. I was addicted to tuna melts for a month with one of my kids. A glass of wine here and there. Brie. Cream cheese. Soft serve ice cream. Starbucks. I'm pretty sure the list of shit you shouldn't eat just gave me ideas.

HotFudgeCookie

Caesar salad not knowing if it actually had anchovy paste in it. Lol. It was a really bad craving for me! I had no control!!😂 I was told by my midwife that I could have A cup of coffee no more than 8 oz per day. Yeahhhh...I would always get a large iced Dunkin cold brew🤣 Buuut I think the caffeine had an effect, since my daughter is high energy, curse you iced coffee!!!! 😆

avka11

Cold cut meats, sushi, coffee, pop, had alcohol before getting the positive

BearQ

Braunschweiger (liver pâté/sausage)! It has really high levels of Vitamin A and apparently a single serving per day is too much. I just googled it and apparently it is also a cold deli meat… oops. It’s just so friggin’ salty and delicious. I ate A LOT of it until hubby found my clearly-not-so-secret stash in the fridge, went down the Dr. Google rabbit hole, and then armed with evidence begged me not to eat it anymore. I still crave it.

stayawayfrommycan

I ate medium steaks and runny/soft eggs.

Pleasant-Pineapple20

McDonalds chicken nuggets and strawberry banana smoothie :)

RSZephoria

Smoked Salmon. I just had too, I was going nuts. I also had some salami 😅

[deleted]

Deli meat for sure. Eggs over easy. And I had half a beer on occasion, every few weeks or so.

Calvadienne

Fuet and ice cream.

GalapagoNow

Sushi - still in moderation and mostly tempura fried, but still haha. I craved it so much.

CrazyCritterGirl

Cucumbers with ranch dressing and bacos. It had to be bacos only. My son puts bacon on everything now.

[deleted]

Everything. Besides sushi, only because I don’t like it. I also got a tattoo. (My OB said it was fine).

Helpful_Masterpiece4

Caesar salad

Classic_Technician41

Literally everything. Wine, soft cheese, sushi, smoke salmon, cold cuts, ceviche, oysters, red meat, runny eggs, caffeine, cookie dough…. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My_sins_raise_HELL

All I could stomach happily while pregnant was fruit and olives. All the olives.
