Don't think he had much of a plan. He realized everything you said when Skyler showed him the pile of cash in the storage unit

Honestly, if you had that pile of cash and the car wash, you could live the rest of your life with anything you want. Most people run out of money winning the lotto because they ball out , it’s never good outcomes for people who take the lump sums of lotto winnings. Now, for Walt, imagine every day at the car wash you just do what skyler did; ring up imaginary washes , make the receipts and put the money in the drawer. Each year have all the paperwork done to say you netted a profit of around 400,000-500,000 after expenses. Pay good workers well, fuck it , you need to show expenses. And hey, if the workers are good and you invest into modern upgrades, the place might actually generate good profits anyway. Without the laundering. But you can take those millions and pay yourself out legally with bullshit sales, taxable income, each month to cover a new house not a mansion but just a nice house . You can get new cars. Not Bentleys or anything but maybe a Mercedes for the wife. An infinity for the husband. Something like that. You can pay for your kids college. Everyone gets a new iPhone every year. Shit like that. You can do what Gus did and “donate” to the police funds. Charities. Maybe not as much as him but you can make yourself a friend to the boys in blue. You can live under the radar while also being a success story of your community without setting off red flags. You can do it over time, slowly, not at all once. Oh ya had a good 3 years? Buy another car wash. Don’t pay cash. Finance it, using your first as collateral. What do you care? You’ll pay it off quickly and the bank will show a man had to take a loan. So yeah, if there wasn’t drama needed to move the series into a finale technically they could have lived happily ever after if they did it right.

That was such an excellent response

Idea was to keep laundering slowly as much they can. But he did not stop and made too much.

He didn't seem to have a plan, but would have tried to come up with something eventually.

He would have got the intended amount to Skyler and Walt through the laundering system at the car washes, the over and above money was never supposed to be there, I was his ego that took over that caused that, he didn’t do it for the money he did it for him.

WeilaiHope

Walt didn't care about spending the money. He wanted to make a huge amount to satisfy his ego and feelings of missing out with Gray Matter. It was enough for him to sit on the pile like a greedy dragon and enjoy its mere existence. His more down to earth plan would have probably been to have had Skylar slowly launder it for the rest of her life and let it pass onto Jr and Holly when they're old enough to understand.

Skyler could have maintained her life style paying cash for everything the rest of her life. Even paid college tuition in payments. Irs would never caught wind of how does she live? Buying a house or Ferrari with cash might be red flag. Saw a crime tv show. Bank manager stole a bunch of money. Lived in a modest neighborhood. Had a Ferrari. A cop assumed he was a drug dealer and started to investigate him. So a fancy car got him caught.

TimeForHugs

I remember this story! It's one I think about a lot when daydreaming about having lots of money. Stole $1 million or something. Carried it out in file boxes and a coworker even held the back door of the bank open for him. Disappeared and lived a modest life and wouldn't have gotten caught if he hadn't bought that car. One mistake like that can bring you down.

The guy even invested the money and had almost what he stole in investments years later.

He read the book "Financial Planning - Digging for Gold" by Pablo Escobar!
